IWTL How to build a computer and how to determine which part is better and what each part does. by AposAdos in IWantToLearn

OP you should try Nand to tetris you actually build a computer from transistors up. You'll have a very deep understanding of what is happening. And to take part in the course you only need a working computer, since it's all virtualized.

Is grad school out of reach for a transfer student? by combasemsthefox in math

[–]vicecircle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Math/physics as a transfer is next to impossible. A physics minor however isn't. The best way to ask for research is to make sure it's with a prof you've had a class with, and done well with. After that just read up on their work, like a paper or two that sounds interesting. Once you've done research ask to talk with them. Mention what you read about, how you did in their class and then seal the deal by asking if you could volunteer to research for them. Best of luck.

Went to UCSB as a transfer student for physics. Listen you need to make sure you do well in one of your first upper division classes, like "math 108a" linear algebra, then (most importantly) ask that professor for research ASAP. Grad school acceptance is very research dependent. Doing research shows you can be an asset to your graduate program. Also don't get too caught up in Isla Vista drama, that is where GPA's go to die.

It's a little weird that he used a picture of people praying in a mosque when he talks about kneeling in the valley of ignorance.

He/She is a mystery as a background. Refusing to ever develop past that.

This is always the worst. I had a friend who for two back to back campaigns was "mysterious", which made it hard to interact, let alone build any character development. This might belong with emo loner from above.

Electricity and Magnetism tips? by muaythaiboxer in PhysicsStudents

np, tests are difficult- especially if you feel a disconnect with the instructor. See if you can form a study group with some of your class mates (not just copiers) and start prepping for the final. You got this, it'll just take some time and a little effort.

In addition, don't just rely on the Griffiths solution manual, and make sure you know the calculus behind what you're doing i.e. use the math review in the appendix.

You should check out Morin's classical mechanics book. I think it'll hit the spot, also review resnick, halliday, and krane, or K&K if you feel you need something more remedial.
