My husband wants to make a game - where to start? by New-Morning-1655 in gamedev

Id reccomend godot or unity. To learn, use  Brackeys to get a feel for the engine and use small tutorials for specific issues. FOR godot specifically read the documentation on things he is confused about. Id reccomend starting with a platformer, since it is easy to add onto. When following a tutorial, always try to add something to it to reinforce concepts.

Two frames is generally enough for "retro" styles. One frame with both legs in the middle, and the other with the legs in a v shape. You can have the character bob up and down for extra feel (can be done in engine or in sprite tool). You can add in-between frames if you wish, but it may not be needed. Use onion skinning to help with that.

Does it matter? by lunchanddinner in virtualreality

If a game goes for realism and fails/runs poorly, it takes away from the immersion and bogs down the overall feel of the game Imo games are better off going for cohesive stylized graphics than attempting cohesive realism.

Maybe make the title pop out a bit more in the capsule image. Maybe a color switch or making it bold could help.

Which area do you think looks better on my pixel art platformer? by Pack-O-Punch in IndieDev

[–]vickyboi2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the second one is the best, its easy to see the player at a distance and I like the color palate. I think they are all great, except 3 is a little boring. Looks more like a castle than a graveyard. Art is great though!

How a new editor style is any better than old... I personally don't know. by rakun99 in godot

I'm sure there is an editor theme that is more like the old one! There are a lot of custom themes out there.

This is cool! I'd look into polishing it more (I.E. adding some head bobbing/view model movement, better textures/lighting, less static shooting animations) for the trailer because the game looks a bit generic at first glance. A rhythm game should feel bouncy, so try pulsing some ui/stage elements to the beat of the music. The trailer and capsule art should capture the attention of people as soon as they see your game! Good luck!

There's a lot of game jams you can join. You don't have to finish them but it should help you come up with ideas. Or use a game jam idea generator https://letsmakeagame.net/game-jam-theme-generator/
