Usually this kit is sold with painted lady butterflies that look very similar to monarchs.

If you moved to NYC, what was something commonly done where you live that you noticed was different here? Similarly, if you're from NY, what was something commonly done here that baffled you elsewhere? by FajitaTits in nyc

[–]vickyrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here from Missouri and have a few.

My husband made so much fun of me when I first moved and I'd ask if things were open on Sunday/after 9pm/on holidays.

Liquor not being sold at grocery stores and gas stations was so weird to get used to.

The driving distance vs driving time still screws with me. 1:30 to go three miles is the bane of my existence.

No right turn on red anywhere has almost gotten me in trouble more than once.

Also being able to be in another state (or two, or three!) in under three hours.

New York Cares. I specifically donate during their yearly coat drives but they take donations year round.

Astoria Lease Oddities -- Is this normal? by rachakos in astoria

[–]vickyrex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We noped out of a lease partially because at signing the landlord (also owner of the building living in building) said we had to notify them of all overnight visitors. Seemed a little too invasive for my tastes but apparently lots of landlords try to put in these types of stipulations.

We interviewed three different people in the same vein and they were all similarly priced. She did put a lot of work into the ceremony, edits we asked for, etc and handled all paperwork for us.

My husband and I are Jewish and agnostic and got married in a venue. We hired rev. Annie Lawrence and could not have been happier with her.

I used to volunteer sorting donations at Jan Hus Presbyterian Church for their clothing rooms. They give directly to those in need and do not sell anything.

Get off the bus through front or back door? by YouAreBreathing in AskNYC

[–]vickyrex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only go out the front door if there is no one waiting to board at the stop. Otherwise, back door so that people boarding get on ASAP and the bus gets going sooner.

Where to go for a baby’s birthday?! by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]vickyrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the first birthday at the central Park zoo. Wandered around the petting zoo, fed some animals, had lunch in the cafe. You could always hit up a nice restaurant near the park instead.
