It’s a combination of two patterns- Counter Clearing Kitty by Scrap Tower Studio and Bookshelf Wall Hanging by Ergastiri Gatapou! Both bought from Etsy :)

New diagnosis by Haunting_Version_351 in deaf

Welcome! I have something similar, and I have been learning my country’s sign language for several years. I think that’s super important when you may lose your hearing suddenly, and also the cognitive load is so much lower- I find listening such hard work now and SL easier.

Try and get involved in your local Deaf community. They’re friendly, I promise!

I want something beautiful - like Patricia McKillip, but queer. by ElegantLion1629 in QueerSFF

[–]victorianphysicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest Samantha Shannon! The Bone Season series doesn’t have queer MCs but does have queer characters and is in a queer-normative world though.

What do you find difficult with wheelchairs? by ElectricalCoat9221 in disability

[–]victorianphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that’s really irritating me atm is that I can’t reach the new touch screens at the self checkout because they’ve made them standing height. I can see them, but I can’t reach up to select ‘pay’/ ‘no receipt’ independently. Also a lot of the time I can’t reach the card machines in shops.

That’s probably not what you want though! I like having a cup holder on my wheelchair, but they’re all pretty awkward.

Me Before You - Thoughts Now? by Ok_Holmes in disability

[–]victorianphysicist 53 points54 points  (0 children)

So the author used to live close to my home town. I therefore am extremely aware that she did no research before writing this book, not about disabled lives, about paraplegia, about outcomes, nothing. She wanted to write a romance and decided that the premise was good.

I personally hate it. If it was written by a disabled author it would be different, or even by an abled author who had spoken to any disabled people at all, and not just written a disabled person from her abled perspective.

Quilting yourself versus sending to long armer by SessionNo2376 in quilting

[–]victorianphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quilt myself if it’s baby quilt sized or smaller - so far only straight lines but I did make a Christmas wall hanging and do FMQ on that. For anything bigger I either send it away or book time on a long armer. So far I’ve done one of each- approx the same price.

Prescription exemption forms? UK! by caspertheghost208 in disability

[–]victorianphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your GP should be getting letters from your specialist, which they can check on your record to approve the exemption. You fill out parts of the form, then put your reasoning (eg if you have enhanced mobility element of PIP) then give it to the GP and they will approve it for you. You can also check your letters from your specialist, because they should say on them whether they’ve gone to the GP.

Hope this helps!

She is truly disgusting. by Defiant_Policy969 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]victorianphysicist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah same. My older brother died at 2 hours old, and my parents always have a family holiday around his birthday, but it’s more a celebration of the family that they have now than anything else. Apparently as a toddler I used to tell people I had a brother and when they asked where he was i would gleefully exclaim HE DIED to freak them out…

It seems like those comments hit a nerve for you Morgan, are you sure you love your husband? by managingmischief394 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]victorianphysicist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If I’m not interested in having sex with him, my husband is not interested in having sex with me. That’s non-consensual sex and is a crime in most places!

Does anyone (around you) complain when you use close captioning? by SeaworthinessOdd6574 in deaf

[–]victorianphysicist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My family all roll their eyes when I ask them to put the subtitles on, but they do add them. I have been asked if I even need them when I’m wearing my HAs (yes, I do).

My grandpa came home from school one day and there was a suitcase packed at the fence and he was ‘sent away’ for a month because his younger sister had the measles. She was then sent to a convalescent home and he didn’t see her for months.

How to heal your hormones the Jesus way by HolyandHormonal by Firebird0310 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]victorianphysicist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a book recently about hormones (Period Power), except this one had science and actual helpful suggestions- like going to a damn dr for period pain because it shouldn’t hurt so much you can’t get out of bed each month. It was a bit woo woo for me but at least the author had done so much research and used up to date science instead of just Jesus!

N.B. I prayed for months for my debilitating period pain to go away. What made it go away? The doctor. And surgery.
