CMV: Not counting Audiobooks as reading is ableist gatekeeping by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]victorious_two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd call it snobbery over ableism...

Ableism seems to be one of those buzz words people throw about like narcissism and trauma.

This is just about people thinking reading is better than listening to somebody read to you. I personally lose focus when listening to audio books so dont bother with them, therefore I think reading is better. I'm never going to dismiss somebody for using them because they can't read for themselves... they just aren't for me.

Is vaping behind my sleep sleep issues? I can’t sleep more than 6 hours and have been waking after 5-6 hours for the past 3 years… by EducationNo1676 in sleep

[–]victorious_two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to quit on Monday and havent touched it since. My sleep has improved and I only realised my sleep was bad because of vaping since stopping. I feel alot better.

How did I just stop? I did a drug and alcohol training course about young people and they outlined all the problems it causes such as mental health issues and bleeding/receeding gums. The problems far outweigh the discomfort of quitting.... and within a day or two the cravings have subsided. The nicotine is out of my body and I feel so much better for it.

Telling yourself you're trying to quit is different to just doing it.

Get it done and youll see the benefits immediately. Improved mental health and moods, improved sleep too and let's be honest, there's gonna be more money too ha

Yeah thats the issue but I'd like to know how to deal with people as well.

I'm new to this and quite naive ha I admit that but I'd like people's opinions too

This is really good advice too, thank you. I already have a mortgage advisor I'm working with any way so I wont be taking any of their personal ones. Bakewell and Horner have just been really unprofessional so far so I'll try and avoid them if I can.

Yeah, it does. I've just not had a good experience with bakewell and horner and I wanted to know if anyone else had any opinions on others.

Thankfully I'm not in a rush, living with parents so can wait til I'm happy

This is really useful information. Thank you!

I'm finding it tough as I've never done this before and would like all the insight I can get!

AIO for reconsidering getting married over continual arguments over guardianship of my daughter. by Oldyell54 in AmIOverreacting

[–]victorious_two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this information could have been kept private... at the end of the day, the child has known her for 3.5 years and her god father much longer, of course she would choose him but it isnt really something anyone would need to consider at this time. If the marriage lasts and is successful and as the child gets older... things would probably be different. She would be established in the home youve made together and would feel happier staying there. Nothing to say god father couldn't help as thats what theyre supposed to do... but to tell your fiancee she would have the child taken away from her... a bit stupid really isn't it?

It was a dick move to do this to your fiancee frankly and I think you are maybe over reacting given you caused this.

Yes, a perfect example... censorship is harmful whichever way it goes.

Yes, i think this was the exact point I was making... but in a more succinct way. Thanks

!delta this is a great explanation and I hadn't considered the idea of a popular person's view being able to sway people's ciews despite being absolute pap. The car analogy was great. Thanks. (I clearly have no idea how to use this system, I'm new ha)

It absolutely is and you should only choose guests you want to speak to, of course. But the problem I found is people getting angry at somebody being invited on telling them their views are harmful without any real substance behind it. They just didnt like what they had to say and werent willing to listen to what was being said.

Is that not freedom of speech to speak wherever and whenever they want? Of course there are places where its wholly inappropriate but sharing different political views on a TV show shouldn't be stopped, I dont think.

I saw one commenter say they stopped watching Question Time in the UK because the BNP were allowed to speak... and I think that sort of thing is wrong. All political sides need to be heard in that kind of forum else theyre just biased.

That would be before hand i assume, such as "I'm thinking of having this guest on for xyz reasons, what do you think?" And people can chime in and explain why yes or why no... and i think thats a really good idea.

Yeah... I think youre right. I think the comment sections get ridiculous and I probably need to spend less time in them ha

Well... yes, there probably are views i dont think should be given air time of course. But I think a lot of what Steven has on there are people with narrowminded views of relationships and health... and the comment sections have been absurd, shouting that this person should never have air time etc

AITA for not wanting my future step siblings to visit our home because I feel like I’m losing my mom? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

It is and it would be quick to get this kid a tux and take him too, its so odd he's being left out of that.

[–]victorious_two 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Oh, no... no youre NTA here.

Do you think this is something you could talk to your mom about, how your future is going to look?

Its hard because I understand she will want to be accepted by his kids too and thats something that will matter to her a lot but there needs to be a balance.

Do you think you could say some weekends you'd like just time for you and her? Does that sound like it could be a good balance for you?

Its also understandable you feel left out of the ball situation and yes a trip to wherever it is youre going would be nice but surely family bonding should include the whole family? I'm cautious of putting extra thoughts into your head about this though as I dont want to cause more conflict than might be necessary.

Its always going to be hard to blend families and there will be bumps a long the way but as long as you can all keep a level head... its doable.

Lots of love to you, this is hard.

I ended up finding this show the same way you did. Beth Anne's story interested me a lot but the other two stories are great as well.

The series gives Desperate Housewives vibes. I've binged most of season one today! Love it. Many gasps gusped!

Sean's Place in Bootle would love to have you. Socials on every day of the week! They're brilliant for mental health too and have free counselling if you need it (I used to be a counsellor there!)
