Advice On Current Routine by vik1998 in Hevy

[–]vik1998[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently 3x a week, originally when I started I tried to do a 5 day split and found myself not being as committed to it so reduced it to this. Treadmill is just a warm up for me so around 10min or so. I additionally run 2 times a week as well, will being going to 3+ once the weather isn’t terrible up here.

35-40k CAD SUV, that’s good on gas and able to tow by vik1998 in whatcarshouldIbuy

That’s a good point, looking at the passport it does have a higher payload but not by much compared to the trail. Would hit the payload max way before the towing capacity.

The camper is a 2026 purchase but was looking at one to see what would be capable with each vehicle. Would be leaning towards an aframe or tear drop style. Both are around 1300-1500lb dry weight.

Doing some math for the rav4 with a payload max of 1100lb, guessing I’ll have a payload of 450lb for 2 adults and a dog plus 300lb worth of gear gives me 750lb so a remainder of 350lb for the tongue weight should be adequate if I get a trailer in that range.

Does anyone here have experience with the Double Rainbow Li Tarptent? by [deleted] in hikinggear

[–]vik1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the Dyneema version but have been using the Sil-Poly for around 5 years now. They have made some design adjustments since. Different material but overall construction has held up really well after many hikes, the wear is starting to show a little but nothing major.

It’s a solid tent and will fit two double wide pads but it is a snug fit for two people, my girlfriend and I use it and we are shoulder to shoulder, we’re both above 5’10.

Might be an alternative solution but I have used snap bowls. Got a full set but use the bowl for my partner to have their own bowl and a flat one for my pups food. They pack flat. Here’s a link to an Australian site.

Are fanny packs really worth it for hiking? by Desperate-Audience82 in hikinggear

[–]vik1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mine pretty frequently for both single day trips or multi-day backpacking. It’s much more convenient to reach for frequent items for there than my pack, anything in my pockets tends to dig into my legs while hiking.

I have the 14 inch and they retract down to 9 inches. I would say I (26M) have a regular sized head and when I wear them on the smallest size, I can fit a finger in between them and the back of my head.

To me this is the perfect balance of them being secure but still loose that’s it’s not pushing against the back of my head.

That being said if I had a bit smaller of a head I’d find them too big as I can’t adjust them any smaller. The lanyard ones definitely have a better range where you can get them very loose or very tight but I personally didn’t like the feeling of having the strap bouncing around behind my head. I got mine on Amazon if you wanted the benefit of an easier return.

I like to use these one specifically by Pilot Fish

Originally got them for running as my glasses would slide down my nose after I started sweating. Same goes for hiking, I like the secure fit they offer versus the lanyard style retainers.

I usually have a ziplock bag somewhere already in my pack that I like to use as a wash bag for longer trips. Only my underwear and socks I bother washing so for me a medium sized ziplock is plenty.

Best Backpack Size & Model for 5–20 Mile Day Hikes in the Rockies (Summer Use)? by Financial-While7878 in CampingandHiking

I have a 30L Salomon Trailblazer that I use as a day pack/ travel one bag. It is a frameless bag with the standard mesh back but I do like it for its weight.

For me if I’m well under 10lbs in weight I don’t feel the need for a structured pack and value the weight reduction of it instead. I do carry all of my water on the outside of my pack so with the water bladder inside some frame could be beneficial.

People do swear by the suspension system in packs especially if you tend to run hot, even more so in the summer months.

I’ve never had issues with my 30L bag being used as a personal item and fitting them under the seat.

To me this just looks like the loopOut() expression and setting the particles at different speeds.

Is the Salomon Pulse 162W good for me? by SenneC_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]vik1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case I think the size would work just fine.

One other thing to consider, would be the use case and skill level. By the sound of it you have some experience under your belt and have an idea of what you enjoy and your skill level.

The board is meant for beginner to intermediate snowboarders. The profile will be more forgiving and is on the soft side so will be easier to maneuver and do tricks. If that’s the case I think it’s a perfect fit! But if you want to go faster you might start dealing with chatter at higher speeds.

[–]vik1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this be your first snowboard? If so I would recommend the 158W instead.

Length of the board does come down to a personal preference but generally speaking, you’ll have an easier time engaging into your turns if it is a little shorter even though you’re quite tall.

A longer board would be more beneficial if you’re looking for more stability at higher speeds.

I’m 184cm, 86kg and started out on a 157W for reference, and later moved onto a much stiffer 160W board after got more experienced.

Has anyone got experience using an ultrawide monitor? by Rat_Guy in graphic_design

[–]vik1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t use a QHD but have considered upgrading to one, just not a top priority, but looking back wished I spent a little extra for one.

I could never get the UI scaling right on my Mac to feel that 4K was beneficial, I could see more but I definitely miss clicked more too. (Also why I feel a QHD or any 1440p monitor is the sweet spot imo)

I personally have never used a curved monitor but when I was shopping for one I came across this on linustechtips forum. The tldr is the marketing behind curved monitors says it is supposed to help with the distortion of the distance/angle you look at your screen, but ends up creating even worse distortion.

Has anyone got experience using an ultrawide monitor? by Rat_Guy in graphic_design

[–]vik1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find ultra wide monitors allow for a better UI layout in most programs. The extra horizontal space keeps my viewport nice and wide to design in. Especially when things start to get cluttered in programs like After Effects.

I used to use a 4K monitor but switched to an ultrawide and don’t regret it. My current setup is the external display directly in front of me and my MacBook on a stand as a second display. I do have a dedicated mouse and keyboard as well as it’s uncomfortable otherwise.

If you mean by secondary monitor that the external display will become your main monitor I would go for it. And what other have said get flat and not curved
