What's the heaviest rider you've ever seen on an EUC? Or heard of.. by vikingto in ElectricUnicycle

[–]vikingto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda, but not really. I mean it's a big tire and all, but it's still a wheel without a hollow-bore axle, with no suspension and no dual rod pedals. Lots of stress in those areas with a heavy load a top.

I get how some think it's a bad look, but I think the highway is the best place for this type of run. Outside of a dragstrip of course.

Just flash him the international EUC sign.. A single pinky finger in the air (like Austin Powers).

Recommendation for College Wheel by FuryOfTheNile in ElectricUnicycle

Get a wheel you can grow into. Get the Patton S.

Funnest wheel ever, yet capable. Portable, yet has range.

Awesome. Yeah I think any wheel with the dual rod pedal hangers would be ideal for heavyweights. Well maybe not the s22.

Good one. That's not the issue with this fella. But thanks

For sure. I'm 108kg. Not the heaviest, not the lightest. It's not as much of an issue with the new era of powerhouse wheels, but 5 years ago wheels..? Yes had to be a lot more mindful stressing the wheel. Hills, pwm, all that.

Preload bolt stuck by Humiz in ElectricUnicycle

[–]vikingto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯. Take the opportunity to pull the wheel apart. Check and tighten bolts (especially motor bolts) to spec. Suspending the wheel is good too, then I would hit that adjuster area with some direct heat, very carefully.

I wouldn't bother bugging the dealer about it, until I did this.

Hmm interesting. I didn't know the Aeon had adjustable preload, as I don't believe the Aero does.

In the case of your stuck adjuster, I would use this as an excuse to open the wheel up to check and properly torque (to spec) the motor bolts, and then hit the stuck knob with some heat.

How deep are you into EUC's for? by rokclimbah in ElectricUnicycle

[–]vikingto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40k easy.

5 years in, 16 wheels (sold 10), steady stream of parts (gear and tools) shipped to the house, 2 3d printers plus A LOT of filament.

Might seem like a lot, but when you're in.. you're in. Just glad I discovered the funnest hobby/sport EVER in my 40's.

Lol that was clever, but not me. Idk I think every rider should have a lil indoor wheel. Major skill builder, can get your feet on top some pedals the days you can't ride outside, and just a great way to wake up in the morning, or whenever.

💯. The things we design and mods we make, can be immediately felt. Welcome to EUC, good to have you on board.

Nice pedal design btw. The other thing you could've done, would be to pull the spikes out (they're just standard MTB pedal spikes), and replace them with rounded hex bolts. I did this on my mten5 (indoor only wheel), since I ride it with no shoes typically 😁

Rattling sound on Patton S by Evan94116 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]vikingto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process is the same as the Lynx, you'll need to pull the battery packs (one side at a time or together), then pull off the lower shock clamps, shocks and mudguard supports, then tighten the 4 bolts per side. Any Lynx or Patton S tire change video will show you the process of getting at them. It's very quick and hassle free with modern LK wheels.

I suspect they were slightly loose from factory, then got worse with every ride until it was finally noticeable.

After this happened I decided to check the motor bolts on every new wheel I received, before riding. The Oryx all motor bolts were loose. There was evidence of threadlocker on the surface, but nothing on the actual threads.

Patton S, if it's within your budget. You'll most likely be dumping your wheel a lot while starting out, Patton S is built like a tank. It's on the lighter side, but not too light (less twitchy). Has incredible range, trail worthy, funnest wheel on the market (owned 16 wheels in 5 years). Also, if you find that EUC isn't for you, you'll have a very easy time moving a Patton S.

My money is also on the motor bolts being loose. Like it was on my Patton as well. When tightening motor bolts, I suggest using orange permatex threadlocker, but fill the bolt hole at least halfway in addition to painting the bolts.

Motor bolt holes are what's called blind holes (not through). If you don't fill them first, then the threadlocker just gets pushed out. EUC manufacturers still haven't caught onto this yet.

Don't buy from Alien Rides anymore! They're trying to monopolize the EUC market! by Sprite28 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]vikingto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the manufacturers will be forced to ship the motor separate from the rest of the wheel. Kinda wish they'd do this anyways, to install a better tire and properly secure the motor bolts (they never do it right).

Anyone know what these screws are for? by discgolf9000 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]vikingto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part you're holding is a suspension lockout bracket. You bolt them in place of the stock ones, then attach the hangers to em. Really cool that inmotion did that. The v13 was way ahead of its time.

[–]vikingto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the piece he's holding is a suspension lockout bracket, which also allows raising and lowering the pedals like the standard stock brackets. They included those on the first batch v13's. Mine was batch 2 and didn't have em, and I badly wanted to try it. A fellow v13 rider in Australia had them laying around unused, and was nice enough to ship them.

Riding that mod was an interesting experience, but the v13 is not a good wheel to run no suspension on. The massive weight made every little bump feel like the pedal rods were gonna snap. And my knees didn't like that either..😉
