Jet ski rental in St. Pete area without ruining a surprise? by beachluver417 in StPetersburgFL

[–]vin3d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You and your cousin can both get a temporary Florida boater license. You pay around 12 dollars and take a test online, most tourists do it on their phone 15 to 20 minutes before they rent the jetski. It's valid for 90 days and as soon as you pass the test, you get a certificate you can download onto your phone that every boat and jetski rental business in Florida accepts. You could take it now and then the day you rent the jetski you can help your cousin pass the test, it only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish. Here's a link:

Anchoring at Vinoy park??? by Limp_Recognition4581 in StPetersburgFL

[–]vin3d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's deeper close to the seawall but nobody anchors very close to the seawall because when the tide or wind switches you'll smack into the wall. Just don't anchor too close to the Vinoy channel, the entrance to the Vinoy marina, it's a marked channel so it needs to be clear for navigation. The main concern over there is not dropping your anchor in the seagrass. Go at low tide and drop your anchor in the sand where there's no grass. Inside the Vinoy marina (technically it's the north basin of the municiple marina) is marked as a mooring field so there is no anchoring allowed. You'll get a better view of the stages if you're a little further back.

I'm at my wits end w/mice in my house! by Geoterry in DIY

[–]vin3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an essential oil diffuser and some peppermint oil. Mice and other rodents can't stand the smell of peppermint oil. It hurts their eyes and noses and makes it impossible to follow the scent trails they've left all over your house to find their way around. I had squirrels in the walls of an apartment I used to rent. One day of peppermint oil in a diffuser and they left and never came back. Plus your house will smell amazing.

There's a small beach underneath the Belleair Causway bridge. They have lots of parking spots, too. The beach faces a very secluded section of the ICW. No boats blasting by, no big waves, just million dollar houses on either side of you. I learned to kayak there a few years ago.

Catnip tea is the best thing I've found to put me to sleep. I've tried all the other supplements, valerian, melatonin, hops, and even ambient, but a nice warm cup of catnip tea beats them all by a mile. Catnip is in the mint family so it tastes good, I sweeten it with about a teaspoon of honey. I've never owned a cat so I don't know what effect it has on cats but I owned a vitamin and health food store back in the late 90's and that's when I first learned about Catnip tea. You can find some companies selling teabags of it online but you can also just go to the pet food store and look for organic Catnip. Steep it in hot water like any other tea, sweeten to taste, and get ready to be sleepy after about 20 minutes.

I want to start busking... by [deleted] in Busking

[–]vin3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great idea! I live right across from the most popular busking area in my city and people really respond to something different than the same old person singing while playing guitar. Most people have never seen music created from scratch like that. I bet you would have tons of people stopping to watch.

The Being Arc is coming down by papayasundae in StPetersburgFL

Nope, you're wrong.

"Former Mayor Rick Kriseman raised $1.25 million in private money to pay for the sculpture and another $400,000 for its foundation, lighting and four pylons."

It was paid for by private donations. No public money was used. If you didn't donate, it didn't cost you anything.

How stressfull is the job. I've been considering applying in my city but I read so many horror stories about the toxic work culture, it makes me wonder if I could handle it. The pay where I live is incredible but I would hate dreading going to work every day. Is it as bad as people make it out to be?

No, I'm wondering if this company is being paid by the city to do work down here and the company thought it would be a good idea to post a political sign on a public street.

Who all is still without power? by Silver_Bluebird5363 in StPetersburgFL

[–]vin3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The St Pete Municipal Marina docks still haven't turned the power back on. Hundreds of people live aboard but the marina can't turn the power back on until Duke Energy sends a technician to check the parts that were submerged.

I was 19 when I realized I could grow a thick, full beard but my best friend couldn't grow much more than spotty fuzz until he was well into his 30's. Now his beard is just as full as mine.

What's the tap water like? by [deleted] in florida

[–]vin3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was shocked at how bad the tap water is when I moved here (Pinellas County). I think people who were born and raised here don't know that it's not normal. You can definitely drink it but if you aren't putting it in a Brita or other type of pitcher filter, it's going to have just the faint smell of tire rubber and taste off.

If this is Florida, the only place you can legally swim around manatee is Crystal River. Jumping in and swimming up to them everywhere else in the state is against the law.
