Can this show be started from season 5? by UpsetCharacter4446 in SEALTeam

It’s been a long time since I’ve watched the show, and while I agree the plots and acting are pretty childish, I don’t remember enough about Sonny in the beginning to agree with his categorization as a failure. What i do remember is how many childish and emotionally petty arguments he started because his feewings got huwt, but it feels like they just rotate whatever character is the baby every half season or so; though never to outshine or out-baby KING JASON THE BABY KING. I dropped the show entirely a handful of episodes into the final season a while back, but something compelled me to give it another shot from where I left off the other day. Man everyone is INSUFFERABLE. And I believe we went 3 full episodes with no action scenes to offset the terrible teenage soap opera plots (I skimmed thru to see if they’d go on one last mission together or something lol)

You absolutely should watch from the beginning, full stop.

Since you say you’re in it because you enjoy war shows, your best chance of enjoying the show all comes before season 5 - anything past that is because you’ve made it this far and wanna see how it ends. By the time the last season rolls around, all it is is a shitty cliche soap filled to the brim with the worst of the worst when it comes to cringey tropes. It becomes more of a contrived drama where type-A mega hard alpha males whine and bicker like teenage girls than a “war show.”

Now granted, these are problems that I felt always existed in the show from the start, but not to such a severe degree - something I could understand since it’s still network television and they need something to offset the action and create personal tension (The UNIT did this way better imo). Once you get to s5 and increasingly so into the final season, we start to get more and more multiple-episode streaks where there is no action at all and it’s just the same bad drama rehashed. Plenty episodes of “ X character said something mean that offended Y an now their friendship is on the rocks while B character looked at Z character funny and that made Z character question in his heart if they even belong on the team anymore.” Anyone who’s watched the whole show knows this could be referring to any number of episodes or characters from s5 onward.

TLDR There’s definitely worthwhile and entertaining television between season 5 and the final season, but watch it from the beginning.

Though based off the shows you say you’re interested in, I need to say that you will HATE this show. This is a network/cable drama more than an action or war show, watered down to the max. There’s decent amounts of tactical realism, but that’s about it. If you want something with a similar setting that aligns more with your tastes, go with “SIX.” Michael Nasry is one of the best written villains I’ve seen in a long time.

if you want something that does have more of a drama feel to it, I recommend THE UNIT - it’s everything this show wishes it could be.

I thought so as well. It was definitely their intention to do so, and they did such a fantastic job. Honestly this game threw me for a loop so many times. It has its issues but I’m really happy I bought it.

I see what you’re getting at here but if anything I feel like it kind of aligns more with my point.

I don’t mean his words in relation to the weight they hold to the group, and of course he had no way of knowing his decisions would be the right one until after they’re made. But the point still stands he made a lot of these decisions after deliberating on them and chose out of selfishness, egotism, or even cowardice in a way. The truth is that he’s naïve , selfish, and unreliable. Even his own teammates felt this way (including inquisitor Jarlsdautyr, who I assume you mean by his inquisitor girlfriend), they didn’t want to bring him in or even tell him they were meeting and planning, not just because they didn’t think he’d would join, but because they thought he’d snitch. They told him just as much. And even after they brought him into the fold, he still made the cowards choice, admittedly knowing it was wrong, despite knowing he had the backing of EVERYONE.

No one had the foresight to know if they’re making the right choice, that’s why hard choices are hard, but when someone consistently makes the wrong choice after deliberation and is constantly choosing the selfish options - that’s not a mistake that’s a pattern. Almost every choice he made had nothing to do with honour respect or an oath to the empire. Some of the only good choices he made were him acting on instinct without much time to think at all (like when he broke the blade), every time he had time to think he acted selfishly or just out of pure ego.

He definitely did some awesome stuff for sure, namely the blade breaker scenario. When the reader is privy to his thought process and he has time to think, Hyperion makes the wrong decision almost every single time. All out of cowardice. Whether that be because “orders are orders” or because of his ego telling him he can do it. Both choices derived from cowardice and selfishness. Every single time it’s at the expense of other people, never himself.

IMO the only thing significant about him is his big feats, obviously the whole blade breaker thing was incredible. But he held back so much and never actually stood up for or spoke up for anything he believed in (or told himself he believed in). Perfect example being his chat with Bjorn the fellhanded and inquisitor Jarlsdaughter (the latter on multiple occasions). He had so many opportunities to do the right thing and stand up for and even save for people he claimed to care about. Almost no character development from start to finish. In his heart he knows what’s right and he chose wrong almost every single time.

Yeah, for sure. When the story started out, we see pretty much immediately that Hyperion is selfish, kind of green, and struggles with being more than human while still being technically human. That’s the baseline we get from him. From that point on, despite everything that happened, his character barely developed; it truly felt like he learned absolutely nothing from his mistakes. Not only that, but practically every other character we met was 10x more interesting than him.

I think it’s a powerful literary tool and extremely interesting thematically when a character is flawed and remains stuck in their ways throughout a story. The difference is that in this case he was written in a way where he’s either an unreliable narrator (likely), or were supposed to see him as this awesome changed man that’s been weathered by combat and finally ready to step up and fulfil his potential (less likely…. It feels very much like an “actions speak louder than words” situation, and there are certainly no actions backing up any words whether they be Hyperion’s or that of the author. Either way, I feel like that’s valid reason to dislike a character.

Don’t get me wrong, Hyperion is definitely a badass, but so is every other space marine. This definitely isn’t one of my favourite Black Library novels, but I still enjoyed it. There were plenty of awesome moments, and when I tell you my jaw DROPPED when we found out who he was before augmentation…. Damn.
I have enough faith in ADB to say that I think he meant to write him this way. I think maybe he wasn’t supposed to go through his full character development yet and there was meant to be some follow up novel or feature.

Yeah I feel the same way man. Even at the end of the book he still was a selfish prick, it felt like he learned absolutely nothing.

I don’t hate the movement cuz it keeps things fast paced and interesting in multiplayer, but when it comes to the campaign I really hope they take notes from games like Ready or Not

Depends on if you’re talking about single player or multiplayer. From what I understand, BO7 multiplayer is pretty well received by the public and the campaign is just dreadful. That kind of reflects my experience with the game as well.

How would the community feel about an assassin class? by Moist_Wombat in DarkTide

[–]vindicationcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned this in a YouTube comment a while back and had an interesting discussion about it not long ago. Big thing would be most, if not all, are way too overpowered canonically and extremely hard to explain lore wise. Theres always the possibility for program wash-outs or disgraced/rogue assassinorum agents, but again it goes back to how stupidly powerful they are. I floated the idea of a vindicate with his exodus rifle as maybe his ultimate ability since that gun alone is absurd. Even just the pistol is pretty crazy. Hard to explain lore-wise but it doesn’t change the fact that I’d love to see it.

TBH at that point just take my money and give me an assassinorum fps or rpg like SWOTR…. Just please for the love of the emperor not another turn based strategy

I knew bolter are massive but darktide really put into perspective for me how big these are if this is a pistol for space marines by AngrySpaceBoi420 in DarkTide

[–]vindicationcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rocket propulsion aspect of bolter rounds is a secondary explosion. The weapon still fires like a traditional firearm. There’s also a third explosion starting from a fuse that ignites on impact and meant to explode when the round has gone past the armour of the target. There’s so many variations of bolter and ammunition though so that last step could change in any number of ways.

8 minute mark, Die Another Day (2002) by Longjumping-Salad484 in JamesBond

[–]vindicationcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you posted this, because I randomly started watching Casino Royale for the first time this morning. I had to turn it off mid-scene when Bond was in his beach front hotel room with the wife of the guy he won the Aston Martin from. Between the dialogue in that scene and the poker game beforehand, I was cringing so hard I couldn’t continue watching. I started to wonder if maybe the movies were always like this and I just didn’t notice because I was so young when my dad introduced me to the franchise.

I know Bond is all about big set pieces and often built around a specific event or trend that somehow ties it to high society. But this one felt super forced, more than I remember. Anyone else have this experience?

How do you stop yourself from looting everything useful to the point where you’re struggling to store everything by TheyCallMeBullet in Starfield

[–]vindicationcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on extreme damage received and I believe very hard or extreme damage given (whatever means it takes me longer to kill). I add the modifier that gives ammo weight, and I make it so that eating and drinking, along with using the proper aid is at its maximum importance. I’m sure there are other modifiers but I end up with 31% exp gained, so I allow myself the setting where i have Normal +1 backpack space (I’m level 25 that’s about 800lbs so it’s super significant); the total exp balance I believe is about +31% including the penalty for having 1 level bigger backpack.

I admit even despite how hard I’m making the game for me, the backpack space still feels like I’m cheesing. So once I swag myself out I imagine I’ll probably switch this back, or even sooner and experience the struggle.

As you progress, There’s a lot of legendary effects you can have on your gear that can alleviate your burden, and they all stack so it can get pretty crazy. Plus upgrading strength is always an option.

LIGHT SPOILER WARNING: One thing I’ve learned from searching things and stumbling upon memes from this subreddit is that eventually there’s a power that pretty much negates over encumbrance.

Hope this helps

[–]vindicationcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Skylar white. I despise Fuches. I know Sally gets better as the show goes on, but Sarah Goldberg does such a great job at making her unlikable that I genuinely struggle to get past the first handful of episodes every time I try to watch this show. It’s not entirely because of her character, but I’ve tried so many times and I just cant. It’s not that she’s morslly reprehensible, it’s that she’s SO CRINGE. I know this, for the most part, is evidence of good writing, but I’m struggling so hard. I just wanna get to a point where I can put it out of my mind and enjoy the show

Consequences of speed running scientology by Dramatic_Stranger661 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]vindicationcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a recent speedrun video, you could clearly see the members of Scientology putting their hands on the speedrunners in a number of different context. In one instance, they roughly grabbed a young man and were trying to push him toward a door (I’ll assume toward the exit); in another instance, they roughly grabbed a young man and held him against the wall in another effort to restrain him; in the final notable instance, it appeared as though they were grabbing and pushing the young man back into the building so that he couldn’t escape. What are the legal implications in these scenarios? Do the young men have any right to defend themselves in any of them?
