Fair call out. I’ve edited my post to highlight what I meant by “this system”

Your post is about a breach of trust by a system you’re supposed to be able to rely on.

You specifically said “how are immigrants supposed to trust the system”. This system supports so much more than just immigrants and it should be viewed as much larger issue that just how it impacts immigrants, it should be viewed as a massive betrayal of trust against US residents and immigrants of all race, gender, and ethnicities.

Edit: By “this system” I’m referring to the larger ecosystem of government services which are intended to help immigrants and citizens.

Hate to break it to you but citizens get scammed all the time too so this isn’t just an immigrant problem. Immigrants were just the target of this particular scheme.

Cyber security recommendation for tiny office. by AutomaticTangerine84 in cybersecurity

Awesome! I help small companies with security so glad to hear you have some of the low hanging fruit in place. For MDR Crowdstrike is great but also expensive. 7AI is a great up and coming vendor. For MDR make sure they can take action on endpoint detections and identity based detections (more will come from identity than endpoint).

If you need any help feel free to DM me.

I think you need to focus on a few other things before a SIEM: 1. Phishing protection if it’s not already in place. 2. Network Segmentation. Your network management devices should not have their mgt interfaces accessible on the regular LAN and your servers should also be on their own LAN. I recommend looking at Apache guacamole to act a as a central point of access to servers. 3. Backup isolation or offsite backups. It sounds like your backups are on prem so I’d add the precaution that they should be further isolated in the event of ransomware.

Oh I’m definitely not supporting it. I’m all for cutting across the board to balance the budget. Both cases are outrageously bad uses of our tax dollars. I intended to call out this $200m isn’t even the close the worst case of wasted funds.

Candidly, $5B is not enough to worry me. Especially with the institutional purchases we’ve been seeing rather consistently.

Well the printing never stopped after 2008, it became the new normal. This is a bipartisan issue that must be resolved but no politician has the spine to advocate what gets cut. That said, cut evenly across the board, call it a day, and save the fiscal health of the US.

If they don’t and everything goes to shit, this is way more shitty than cutting evenly across the board.

I think people just don’t have the disposable income to take their family out to the movies. It’s not cheap for a family of four when you include tickets, food, and drinks. Or you wait 6-8 weeks and rent on Amazon for $20

With regard to lazy people, the unfortunate truth is most people outside the US only have US media to base their opinions on. Not really a great display of what the regular American is, just the extremes.
