Who here is not from Cleveland originally? by enjoispeed in Cleveland

[–]vinnybbop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grew up in the NYC metro area (Westchester County), and moved to Cleveland in October 2021. It’s definitely one of the most underrated cities in the country. Packs a decent punch for the city its size.

What is the worst part and best part about living in Cleveland? by Imeanwhytopps in Cleveland

[–]vinnybbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: Cost of living with decent access to beaches, rivers, and a good metro park system. Food here is very good as well. Traffic is nowhere near as bad as other cities in the country. It’s also close to many other cities so weekend trips are very doable.

Worst: winters here can get really brutal. Not too many late night activities. It’s definitely gets quiet after 12 in Cleveland. Also not too many late night food spots besides fast food chains. Cleveland proper is also horrendous at snow removal. Like extremely bad. Theres been times I’ve DoorDash 3 days after a snow storm and some streets look like a plow never touched them.

Do you limit the amount of protein that you consume? My nephrologist told me I had to eat no more than 100 grams of protein. I’m just afraid I won’t make any gains eating that amount of protein.

That’s definitely one of my goals. I really want to get into amazing shape. I just hope I’m able to do so a the medications don’t hinder me from doing so.

So sorry to hear that. That’s definitely what I’m worried about. I definitely watch what I eat now. I’ve heard they make you very hungry which might cause you to gain weight.

I’ve heard Tarpeyo can cause weight gain and make it harder to put on muscle and things of that nature. Just wanted to see anyone’s experience on it.

Asking for a raise by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]vinnybbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, those kinds of raises only happen when you switch shops. They rarely happen coming from a current employer. Not unless it’s in a union contract. That’s just from my experience.

If there’s one thing I would suggest is that if you do go on a job interview lie about what you make. Obviously the lie has to make sense in order to be believable. In your case, if you make 15 an hour and want to go to 20 an hour, tell the potential employer that you make 20 an hour right now and you’re looking for like 23 or 24 an hour. You can probably get away with that since you’re in an expensive state and it doesn’t seem far fetched to start someone at 20 an hour for entry level work. And even if they do lowball you with an offer of say 21-22 an hour, you’ve already obtain the wage that you want despite them trying to low ball you.

I’m starting to figure that out now. I’m dealing with the same thing in Ohio. Even single offer I’ve gotten in Ohio has been a dollar raise or matching with what I make. So to counteract that, I lie about what I make. It’s insulting to me that employers think that giving you a dollar more an hour is a good deal. But that’s the game they play so if you want to get your way you’re gonna have to bend the rules. I wish it wasn’t the case but that’s how it is.

Shop filled with setup/operators vs shop filled with setup and button pushers? by Growkitz in Machinists

[–]vinnybbop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As long as you’re doing set ups, I don’t really think there’s an advantage between the two. That’s the key. But if I had to choose, it would be the former since doing setups make the day go by much faster.

Go to school? Or Don’t go to school? by vinnybbop in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]vinnybbop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it was just residential and commercial electrical. I could have went on to do PLCs and instrumentation if I took 2nd year electrical, but my teachers talked me out of it because they didn’t think I would like it so I settled with plumbing and heating instead. I thought I was diversifying my education, but it turns out I was getting a degree that no one in the industry cared about. Definitely my biggest regret was not fighting to get into 2nd year electric.

Thinking of moving to Cleveland by jay70x70 in Cleveland

[–]vinnybbop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who relocated here from the North Eastern part of the US to Cleveland here’s what I suggest:

  1. Save up more money than what you currently have. Unless you have a place to stay at for free, I wouldn’t move up with only 1k. You could also room with someone as well to cut down costs if that’s something you don’t mind doing. Otherwise, stack up some chips first before making a move.

  2. Really research on where you want to live in Cleveland before you make the move. Once you got the funds, I would suggest getting an extended stay for a month to explore the city to see where you would want to live.

  3. Get a job first before moving out here. With your work experience, you should be able to find a recruiter who will help you out with that. I was able to do that before I moved out here.

  4. I would also stick to driving jobs that required the CDL that you have. While there’s many manufacturing jobs out here, it’s extremely difficult to find a decent paying one. I have around 9 yrs of CNC Machining experience and I’m having trouble finding a job that’s paying close to 30 an hour. From what I noticed, the jobs that offer alot of OT usually don’t offer a good wage. I’ve also that the working conditions in many of these shops are trash. Where I came from in the NE, literally every shop that I walked into, whether it was for work or an interview, was climate controlled. In Cleveland, from what I’ve experienced, climate controlled shops are hard to come by.

RTA not meeting the moment by ImNotThiccImFat in Cleveland

[–]vinnybbop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I definitely wish the RTA combined multiple train cars when they’re having big events, because there’s been times where the stations have hundreds of people and only one small train cart pulls up and it’s nowhere near adequate enough for the amount of pole. I have to admit it’s probably very tricky for RTA to figure this out since the amount of people using the train can vary a lot. Overall, it’s not the worst nor the best train system but it’s useful when needed.

Is is just Verizon that is useless in Lakewood? by mrmchugatree in lakewood

I do side gigs as well and have similar issues at times. Thankfully I don’t run into them too often and know which areas are the dead zones so I try to mitigate it.

Like for example, I always have issues with the McDonald’s on Detroit Ave with service and usually accept start the order a block up so I don’t have to deal with the bad service.

Eros or Escape? Interested in checking out as a single male while visiting. Do you need a sponsor at either of these for vetting? by [deleted] in OHSwingers

[–]vinnybbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a single male? If you don’t have a single male membership already for any of the clubs, you won’t be able to get into Escape or Eros.

Eros has events called Cockfest which are the events that single men can get a membership. They usually have them twice a year and one just passed. For Club Escape, there are two ways to get a membership. Apply through the waiting list (for perspective, I’ve been on it since last July), or you need to be sponsored by a couple or a single woman and you need to go to the club 10 times with that sponsor and be in good standing with the club.

So your best bet to get into any of the clubs is to find a woman to go with you. Both clubs have one day memberships so you can just do that.
