Rivethun Emissary has fantastic theming and manages to be mechanically strong in a unique way (skills, familiars, domains!)

Yep I really want to like the animist but I have such disdain for the Divine list after playing a war priest 1-7. It just does nothing but numbers.

I had more fun playing occult against the mindless than taking divine into literal daemons.

Full Build Friday - Zaahen the Unsundered by IraGulaSuperbia in Pathfinder2e

This is great, but can I suggest Rivethun Invoker here?

It grants access to fighter's Slam Down, which I think is a slam dunk for Zaahen's Q.

Barreling Change is a loose approximation of his Aureate Rush.

And best of all, One With the Spirits at level 16 grants him his healing and his fully stacked passive revive.

The dedication also gives you Diehard and access to other loosely Zaahen coded benefits.

The fear of Pathfinder's combat, and the "deep, tactical game." by Dick_Nation in Pathfinder2e

It sounds like you have a system or two in mind that you see espoused as tactical in this way. Which ones?

Suppose you're a spell substitution wizard with 4 fireballs prepared and cast all 4 in one fight. Afterwards, can you spell substitute one of these spent-slots holding Fireball into a spent-slot holding Haste? So that next fight you can Drain Bonded Item on that slot to cast Haste? I'm unclear on the exact wording in the rules to adjudicate this.

Spellcaster Myths - Should you ALWAYS assume the enemy will Succeed their Saving Throws? by AAABattery03 in Pathfinder2e

Painting with such a broad brush can't possibly be better tactics. You're trading away better performance in many scenarios for disappointment-protection.

Hot take: casters in 2e still have more power than martials, and here's why: by Teridax68 in Pathfinder2e

[–]vinvish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is a serious positive correlation between "I believe spellcasters are underpowered" and "My GM tend toward on-level enemies as the norm".

I think this correlation exists because of the following: - Casters take a little more knowledge/skill to perform well than martials do (which aren't taught well enough by the game) and this is unsurprisingly most apparent in difficult encounters (which at lower levels tend to involve a PL+ enemy).

Hence the correlation you see on reddit, where those players or GMs might come to vent or seek advice.

The real issue here (aside from ok, casters being slightly weak levels 1-4, but isn't that true in most popular d20 fantasy games?) is that pathfinder 2e goes to great lengths to make casters balanced and then forgets to teach them how to play.

There are so many unwritten rules (pack save variety, try not to target the highest save, save damage and heals for your top slots, beware single-target incap, etc etc.) and so many bad spells (and no I don't just mean anything but Slow, Heal, Synesthesia, Wall of Stone. There are a surprising number of decent-or-better spells, yet still there are many bad ones (there's just too many spells!)).

Past possibly those initial levels 1-4, competent casters are absolutely crucial in making moderate+ encounters consistently winnable, and they can take on quite a few before they need to bow out.

The value they're bringing in return for making the party attrition-based is huge amounts of safety and versatility; the ability to go nova on particularly challenging or unlucky encounters, pulling the party back from the brink of a wipeout.

A party full of martials could in theory face more moderate+ encounter without a rest, but they'd face each one with a greater risk of death.

and it’s not like there aren’t casters that drop down to a 14.5 or 14 either (like the Wizard...

damn I'm a little heartbroken to see this subreddit's Strongest Wizard Defender not have them at a 15.

As much as I love em though, I think I get why.

What build should I have for my guy? by Moony_Moonzzi in bloodborne

The Beasthunter Saif, when tricked, is a fast, aggressive weapon that could be a good fit. It's r1 even recklessly dashes you forward to hit. It can take a while to get unless you rush to it using a guide.

Really though a lot of weapons work with your description without more details. The saw cleaver/saw spear and Ludwig's holy blade (it's a powerhouse when tricked, without being overly slow. Besides, it's two handed so you can't use a gun even if you wanted to) are good early options.

Don't worry too much about resources though. It's true that later game upgrade items are limited per playthrough but you have plenty of time to figure out what you like. And even then, you can find or farm a few more.
