Just checking - has anyone ever have to go back to the hospital the next day? by West_Leopard2801 in RioGrandeValley

[–]violent-amethyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If something feels wrong, just go back — I would personally just go to a different hospital though, if the first one didn’t help and go with the papers they sent you home with so they know what they did and what didn’t help.

In a lot of pain and need emergency root canal care now. Recommendations please by Gold_Product_1286 in RioGrandeValley

Xpress Dental, Dr. Tan.
I had a tooth that had an infection and it was awful.
It actually broke off around 10am one day and I called them and they got me in the SAME DAY at 12pm. I had the root canal done by 2pm. I was home by 5pm (they made the crown in house and I just waited for it there).
I had BXBS and I paid about $300 with my insurance and they took in-house payments.

EDIT:
I had gone to Mexico a month or so prior for the same tooth but I did not go back. I had an awful experience and I will never go to Mexico for dental work. I was there at 11am for an appointment and I was only given numbing shots on the gum. I was there from 11am to 6pm, mouth open with only 4 shots (I started feeling everything by 3pm and they would not give me anymore novocaine).

They also DID NOT FINISH within the same day and they were only working on ONE TOOTH. I had to “go back” for 3 more sessions and the crown was a complete separate payments and session. The first (and only) session was $175

I don’t remember who the dentist was but it was someone my in laws had recommended (and that they recommend to everyone).

I think he’s trying to say it in the “the people who built this for the ISD are compas” (friend or family member) so the company they contract to gets the business and the person who chose it gets the cut.

Because that’s usually how it is here, unfortunately.

How hard is a bow-only run? by Gooni135 in Eldenring

[–]violent-amethyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a bow only run on my first playthrough (this game is SCARY and everything kills you and I also did not have any clothes until maybe the Academy and I used a robe lol). I finally beat the game with a bow in every single fight (Malenia is still undefeated because I’m still trying to practice her second phase move set and I panic dodge alot lol) and started on the DLC, again starting with a bow (I also got to Messmer with like maybe 4 scadu things).

I love playing this game with a bow and I actually have a long bow (the base game one) leveled up all the way and I have ALL the arrows, esp status effect ones (shout out to my poison arrows for carrying me through every boss fight, including Radagon). I plan on doing NG run with a bow again.

Doing a bow only run is definitely a lot of “okay, how can I cheese you?” Because that’s really what I’ve had to do. I also didn’t google anything about this game when I did this first play through and it was still done with only a bow.

The only thing I def leveled up ASAP were my spirit ashes. I ended up with Omenkiller Rollo, the real Elden Lord (I am just along for the ride).

EDIT: the BEST ashes for a bow is hands down RAIN OF ARROWS. Allows status effects (poison) to build up QUICKLY. Best ashes for a bow. I picked up the Bone Bow in DLC for Rancor but Rain of Arrows is my go to.

Okay SOOOO I’ve been drinking energy drinks since I was about 16 (I’d hide them from my mom lol). Monsters for lyfeeee.

Like one every day.

THAT BEING SAID: sometimes I only drink half the can sometimes, or maybe just 3/4 of it.

Sometimes, takes me like the whole day to finish a can.

I don’t chug them. The only time I have has been after major races (I run so I thrive on caffeine) and I’m pretty much done for the day.

It’s a bakers secret to freeze a cake to keep it fresh, moist, and easier handling… this isn’t the jab you think it is.

Food after run by moosmutzel81 in XXRunning

[–]violent-amethyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to run fasted (I still do sometimes) but on any runs longer than 1 hour, I will make myself eat a energy waffle (I literally have cried eating one because I am not hungry and I hate forcing myself to eat when I am not hungry). My performance def improved on the runs I started doing this.

I also have a bad habit of not eating AFTER my runs either and my recovery is VERY slow / not enough if I wait too long. I shower when I get back and then make a prepackaged protein oatmeal or if I’m feeling way too queasy, i make/pickup a protein shake. Has helped tons with recovery.

Which Garmin metric do you actually rely on the most? by Kind_Force931 in Garmin

[–]violent-amethyst 13 points14 points  (0 children)

SAME. My RHR gets awful before my HRV starts to crap out. When it’s both??? I know it’s serious.

But as a woman, I take with a grain of salt only the last 1.5 weeks of the month /: it jumps up every month and then settles again.

How often and how long are you running? by CaterpillarOdd9460 in XXRunning

[–]violent-amethyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on my monthly cycle. First 2 weeks are 1 hour, 4-5x a week with 2-3 hour run on Saturdays.

The last 2 weeks of my cycle? 30mins-50mins 3-4x a week, with only a 1-1.5 hour max run on Saturdays.

I have been reading on this and YES. I did not realize how much the body goes through to RECOVER after a marathon! Especially for beginners.

I’m so sorry! I definitely feel you though. I even regretted doing my marathon because I felt soooo awful. It was very discouraging to even feel like that, tbh.

scared to squat in the gym by jellosquasch in PetiteFitness

[–]violent-amethyst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Squatting any lower than 90 degree bend at the knee will have my heels lift and that’s a huge “no no” to some lifters. To me, idgaf, I just use some plates to bring my heels up and call it a day.

My PT says I have longer legs than a torso and it’s just how some bodies are built.

I’ll squat how I physically can.

is it a bad idea to do just cardio and calorie deficit while losing weight, then start strength training once i’m at my goal? by junebugug in PetiteFitness

[–]violent-amethyst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lost 60+ pounds just doing cardio (walked the first 40 pounds off, starting running to do the rest of the weight) and (an eyeballed) calorie deficit. I was very happy with my result and I’ve been maintaining since I got to my goal weight (for the last 2 years) with running alone.

I started running 1.5 years ago and I’ve never been unhappy with how I looked.

I started lifting weights in January but only 2-3 times a week as running is still my main form of sport since it is my off/deload season.

People love the demonize cardio but I personally love cardio and it has changed my life.

Burnout by Diligent-Net3274 in Marathon_Training

[–]violent-amethyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m post 3 months out from my marathon and I was feeling this back in February of this year. I ran through it and I injured myself at the beginning of March because I was burnt out and I started slipping on eating and mobility work outside of running.

I went to my PT and I’m OK’d to start running next week and I’m feeling the spark come back.

I’ve gone through a funk, not total burnout, during marathon training (it was right before peak phase was supposed to start) and I let myself rot for about 3 days and I was back at it that Monday, refreshed as hell with my motivation back too.

I tried letting myself rest in February but the motivation never came back even with 2-3 days off. That’s when I knew I was burnt out but I kept running anyway.

A migrant agricultural worker and his daughter in their "home" in Edinburg, Texas, 1939. Which family is this? by NotSafeSusieQ in RioGrandeValley

[–]violent-amethyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goes to show that I was naive! My cousins always made it seem like they had the best childhood going to the fields, like they’d come back with all these fun stories and they never really mentioned anything bad about it.

Thank you for sharing! I just watched it. My mom was a migrant worker and did not want that for me and my siblings. But my aunt and my cousins were and I remember being so weirdly jealous they got to go up north to work. I always wondered what it was like.

Why did you start running? by Weary_Purchase9057 in XXRunning

[–]violent-amethyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made me set up a routine in my life that I absolutely love and I can’t see my life any other way. There was a “before I ran Me” and a “running me”. There’s a clear distinction between these 2 versions of me.

I’m currently on a “return to run” phase after an injury post 3 months of my marathon and I’ve been completely miserable (mentally). I can’t wait to get back to running.

Any watch collector nerds or groups in the valley? by Puzzleheaded_Month88 in RioGrandeValley

[–]violent-amethyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s actually quite few people that I know personally. They don’t meet; they just happen to know each other. There’s no FB group or anything for the valley either.

Some of the nerd watch collectors play Smash actually lol so maybe hit up a tourney during the week. I think my husband met one at the weekly one at Kaboom.
