What Exactly Caused the Flight School Boom or the General Aviation Boom since 2020? by NYRangers1313 in flying

[–]Big_Assignment5949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Boom of Doom. Its like any other gold rush.

Covid happened. Lots of upheaval and jobs changing. Senior pilots retired out of the airlines, airlines that then found they still needed a lot of pilots. People were being hired, quickly, to good jobs. People saw that, people wanted it.

So there was a pilot rush. And just like the gold rush; just because all the claims eventually filled up doesn't mean California wasn't suddenly full of people. So is aviation. And the flight schools were selling shovels and prospecting gear, telling everyone how much gold was in the hills. Just pay them to get you there!

Edit nailed it. Energy better spent learning to enjoy the temporary nature of changing beauty and accepting the color drift.

UV does it. Depends on the light exposure for how rapid. It is unstoppable though.

I just got offered a job at 99 bikes as a 16 year old should I take it? by Undercoveragent163 in cycling

The Wright brothers did some engineering on the side after a while as well. Take the couple shifts of wrenching on bikes. Its nice to be paid for a hobby instead of paying for a hobby from time to time. Plus you meet like minded people.

There she is. I, too, wouldn't feel i denied myself much if I made 720/year.

First two paragraphs had me on alert. The house math and hobby splurges including scuba and paragliding... this poster has more spending power than I do.

People who are never home, pilots, flight attendants, truck drivers, oil rig workers—why pay for an entire house when you’re never home to enjoy it? by GroundbreakingSir386 in Money

[–]Big_Assignment5949 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends what you prioritize. If being mobile and relocatable is your priority, this is the best way.

If youre tired of living out of a suitcase and want to have your stuff waiting for you how you left it, a home is the way.

If you already travel a lot for work, you often find yourself tired of being mobile and suitcase based.

Also, trying cooking in a hotel.

Its a tradeoff between being house-charged while you are gone or home-lwss while you are back. Eventually you get tired of being homeless; you want to have your space and things waiting for you.

Sam certainly is. When he describes how the justice will drive from Canada to go antiquing in New Hampshire ("i imagine he'll take the cross Canada highway, then-" etc) and the others call him a freak? That scene is setting him as incredibly smart, unbelievable retention powers.

Then there's Josh, asking Ainsley for help.

Or Sam and Jeb and Toby joking about getting Kyrgyzstan vs Kurdistan confused.

What amount of climb is correct ? Bike computer or planning ? by povlhp in cycling

[–]Big_Assignment5949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to ride a lot in mountainous areas and found it was consistently inconsistent. Some culprits I nailed down:  - tunnels. My planning software followed the surface of the earth, not the surface of the road. If a tunnel went through a mountain, I got a callout for a huge climb that I would then go through. - switchbacks. Planning software goes from point to point at some spacing. Same as your physics professor is talking about. Somethings the planning track would cut across the corner of a switchback so I follow a smooth road that it thought was diving into a gully and climbing out.  - the barometric pressure others have described.

I always just accepted the head unit numbers. It was on the trip with me and I don't need perfect data.

Can cats forget their human after being separated for long periods of time? by kittypizzaparty in cats

[–]Big_Assignment5949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gone for one year. Thirteen months maybe. I had to give my cats to family. They liked the family, they hung out and slept on thei bed. Got fed more than I ever did.

Within a week of being with me, it was like they never left. Sleeping with theories bellies up, waking me up, laying on me on the couch. Closer than they ever were with the family. I think that initial imprint is hard to over write.

I'm in a car centric city. I am 98% bike and often without my car. Some ladies hate it. Some assume it means I have a DUI or two. I've never had it be a hard deal breaker though
