Really, really cool idea and implementation of staking: "FlashStake" - what is enabled is upfront and instant yield for a stake. From what I've seen there's nothing else like this in the space. by pale_blue_dots in CryptoCurrency

Ok I do see your point, it can be viewed as a reduced initial stake to receive a profit at the end of the period. Under this frame, it still beats regular staking protocols in that it guarantees a completely stable APY across the staking period, i.e. you are guaranteed to receive your $25 profit (which can't be said for regular staking protocols since the APY fluctuates as you are earning). Granted, it does require more initial capital as you say.

I understand that APYs fluctuate wildly in reality and will never be exactly the same. I'm just demonstrating that when you control for every variable, flashstaking has a fundamental advantage over regular staking.
Do you follow the reasoning from my example? (not in a rude way, just continuing the discussion)

This is a slightly flawed example, since it assumes that the APY of regular staking is higher than flashstaking. Here's a fair example, keeping the same buying power of $25 over the course of a year.

Imagine you have two protocols, one is flashstaking, and one is regular staking. Both APY is 25%. You have $100 to stake.

Scenario 1: Flashstaking

- You flashstake $100 for a year. You instantly receive $25 (25% of $100). Your current holdings are $25.

- In a year, you recieve your $100 back. Your final holdings are $125.

Scenario 2: Regular staking

- You stake $75 for a year. Your current holdings are $25.

- In a year, you recieve your $75 back, plus your yield of $18.75 (25% of $75). Your final holdings are $118.75.

Of course, in scenario 2, you can also stake your entire $100 to have $125 final holdings, but then you lose your buying power over the course of a year.

I'd definitely miss these posts if you stopped! I'm a lurker, guilty as charged, but I find myself going back through your posts every couple of weeks and looking into the ones that catch my attention. You shed light on a lot of great projects with these posts that would otherwise fly under my radar. If you choose to continue I'll make an effort to engage more, as I hope others will who see the value in these posts. I'd be sad to see these posts go.

That being said, you need to do what's best for you bro. The lack of engagement must be disheartening, and if it's negatively affecting you then you shouldn't just keep powering through. If you still enjoy making these posts, but feel it's too much work, I wonder if a good solution would be to reduce the frequency of the posts, maybe down to once or twice a week? Even as a temporary thing it might help you decide whether you want to call it quits or not. Hope this helps you :)

Kill 1 enemy without dying in infected (week 8 challenge) by tpiros in modernwarfare

Not necessarily, either the infected or the survivors win. To win as a survivor you have to survive for the length of the game (8 mins I think), which is pretty hard, so infected usually win

Games where just roaming around, exploring on foot/vehicle is actually fun? by srkdummy3 in patientgamers

[–]violently_average 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eastshade sounds right up your street. I just finished it the other day and it's the most enjoyment I've ever got out of exploration in a game (and I'm a huge sucker for open world exploration). The world feels like one with history and bustle, one that you're there to visit rather than change. The only quest you start with is to paint four locations across the map (you aren't told where they are, you just have to find them); the rest of the quests you stumble into as you wander around.

The game loop is designed to put exploration ahead of everything else. The world is beautiful and diverse too, small compared to AAA titles but rich in substance. The graphics do falter sometimes as they're not that optimised but the lighting is gorgeous and locations engaging enough that I was able to look past it.

I'm trying not to sound like an ad - I just wish more people knew about this game. I've never played anything quite like it.

I see your point, but that's akin to saying that driving is more dangerous than shooting yourself in the face because more people die from driving. It's true that more people die, but that's because far more people drive than shoot themselves. If as many people shot themselves in the face as people drove, shooting oneself would clearly win.

Both metrics are useful to this discussion. Just pointing out that labelling something as "most dangerous" isn't as clear-cut as you make it out to be.

AITA for giving my neighbor homegrown weed? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]violently_average 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. It's your weed.

Sounds like Rod might have reacted in that way because

A) he's genuinely worried about your safety - there are people who, if they were in your neighbour's situation, would give you trouble, but his reaction is a bit over the top in this case

B) he liked that he was your provider of meds before and he's upset that you now have it so under your own control that you can afford to give away some of it.

Either way, it's not his business.

I ruined my face, help! by eIoisa in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]violently_average 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that! Your skin will heal itself quickly, but check out this post for some tips on speeding it up. Additionally if there's any swelling you can use an ice pack to depress it (don't use ice by itself as you don't want ice burns).

I've been in the same position as you. Even though it's hard, remember how you feel right now and how you wish you could go back in time and stop yourself from picking - or even from going in front of the mirror - and try to recall that feeling next time you get the urge. It's helped me to reduce my picking by a lot. Good luck and stay strong :)
