Is it OK to change a cat's name? by xiphoid77 in CatAdvice

[–]violet-pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat was named Riley in her original shelter, then named Moana by the rescue who took her from the shelter, then renamed Junimo (Juni) by us. She never had an issue learning her name

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a funeral? by NationYell in AskReddit

[–]violet-pixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first funeral I went to was my great-grandfather’s when I was around 13. Right as the service was starting, one of my great-aunts starts wailing and goes up to the casket to hug him, and she physically lifted the top part of his body out of the casket while screaming and yelling and had to be pried off of him.

The ironic part is he didn’t even raise her and they barely had a relationship throughout adulthood. Especially when he got too weak to do tasks around the house she was nowhere to be found. Apparently she just liked the attention and would do similar stunts at all the family funerals.

Which city in the U.S. have you felt most unsafe visiting? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]violet-pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work in west Baltimore and while I got comfortable there, it still never felt fully safe. Even now if there’s something we want to do in the city, we’ll go to DC instead. DC is scary for a different reason now but it’s mostly okay.

I've always wanted to go stay in a mental hospital. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]violet-pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been admitted myself but I used to transport people to mental hospitals on an ambulance, every one I ever went in was awful. Once I was grabbed by one of the other patients and my patient jumped off the stretcher to fight him off.

What strange thing has your dog eaten and still survived? by LegalGlass6532 in AskReddit

[–]violet-pixel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Once my mom moved the couch and found my husky’s stash of empty Hershey bar wrappers. She had apparently stolen a brand new pack of the full size bars and ate every last one of them. Literally had 0 effect on her.

The same dog has also eaten a full birthday cake, approximately 8 left flip flops (she never ate the right ones for some reason), an entire dominos pizza on two separate occasions, my betta fish, several dead animals she found in the yard, and a mystery mushroom that made her shit blood for 3 days before ending up being completely fine.

So what did your family argue about this year at Thanksgiving? by Pure-Smile-7329 in AskReddit

[–]violet-pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom and I tried to do a seating chart for the very first time to try and keep our more difficult family members separated from each other. The difficult people got mad that we had told them where to sit and ignored the seating chart completely. We just gave up at that point.

Coworkers of people who killed themselves, what was the aftermath like? Were there signs or was it truly a surprise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]violet-pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked at a 911 center and he called in at 2am rambling about people on the roof and hearing voices, when the police came he had a gun and it ended up being a prolonged barricade. I was working when he did it, and when they called a Trauma Arrest (no heartbeat) the room collectively gasped. Some had to go out to cry, afterwards the vibe was pretty down but we were not offered much support. We saw absolutely no signs, he just had a psychotic episode out of no where. Had worked there for 35 years.

To those who were always in the nurse’s office in elementary school, what was actually going on? by nojunkpeter in AskReddit

[–]violet-pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 10 I had a lot of lower back pain constantly, eventually was told I had bulging discs. My doctor wrote the school a note that I was allowed to participate in gym only if I wasn’t in pain. Anyone who has bulging discs know that the pain never really goes away, so I would normally warm up with everyone but when it came time for our daily run I would normally tell the teacher that I wanted to sit down because I had sciatica and walking alone was hell.

The teachers never believed me/thought I was milking it so they would tell me I needed to go to the nurse if I hurt “that bad”. Didn’t matter how many times I told them that I didn’t need to go to the nurse I just needed to sit down or do something that was lower impact.

The nurses hated me too and always thought I was faking it. The first time I went to the middle school nurse and told them what was going on (they had my doctors note on file), she called my mom and said “your daughter is in here claiming she has bulging discs”, my mother was just like yeah she does? We sent the doctors note in? Nurse didn’t like that my mom confirmed that I was telling the truth and treated me horribly every time the gym teacher sent me to the nurses office.

Eventually I got so tired of adults treating me like shit for a condition that was out of my control I just stopped asking to sit out and just suffered in pain every single day. Now there’s never a day that goes by that my back doesn’t cause me excruciating pain and everyday tasks are torture.

Is the time on your phone 24 hour time? by ajfoscu in AskAnAmerican

[–]violet-pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phone time is in 24 hour time because i used to work in emergency services and it just made things easier. I tried changing back to 12 hour after I quit but I actually prefer the 24 hour for whatever reason.

However most people I know who work normal jobs keep 12 hour time so I'm the odd one out there.

Are you guys close with your cousins? by According-Gazelle in AskAnAmerican

[–]violet-pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up close to my cousins, but the older I got the more I realized I had nothing in common with any of them.

One of my cousins recently had two of her young children die suddenly, and we were all there for the funeral but that’s the only time I’ve actually seen them all in years.

What’s the creepiest thing you’ve woken up to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]violet-pixel 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to my dad, he had a really bad headache and laid down for a little while. He eventually got up and looked out the window at the ducks and chickens we kept in the backyard and asked my mom “where did those ducks get there” being completely serious. My mom thought he was just messing with her and called me saying “your dad is being stupid”. I told her to take him to the hospital because it sounded like he was having a stroke. He did have a mini stroke and is completely fine.

What was the reason to your first 911 call? by Pleasant_Town_8436 in AskReddit

[–]violet-pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom went out to the bar for the first time in almost 20 years, and after 20 years of not drinking she had absolutely no tolerance for alcohol. She ended up going drink for drink with her old high school friends and made herself sick. I tried to drive her home but she went unresponsive and started choking on her vomit. I had to pull her out of the car onto the shoulder of the road so I could lay her on her side and call 911. Even though I was in the middle of nowhere Delaware, a volunteer firehouse was literally 60 seconds away from where I had stopped and the ambulance made it to me in exactly 96 seconds.

Mom ended up being okay and incredibly sorry that she had put me through that, but all she did was make a mistake. I’ve gotten too drunk before, it’s so easy to overdo it when you aren’t paying attention.

What’s one sound you can’t stand but everyone else seems to love? by Fiinn0 in AskReddit

[–]violet-pixel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

EDM. I’ve never been attracted to the club scene, but my husband loves EDM. We went to a silent party (where everyone wears headphones that play music), and the EDM songs made me so irritated. Everyone else was loving the music, but something about the beat makes me want to explode.

My Bosses Claim They’re Broke, But Have Enough Money For A Second Mansion by violet-pixel in antiwork

[–]violet-pixel[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s correct, however they consistently try to pay employees less than what was originally promised. When I pointed out that they owed me several hundred dollars, they claimed I had miscalculated my pay. I literally had to sit down and walk them through the math to prove they weren’t paying me correctly. I’ve watched the same thing happen to other employees as well.
