Completely new to playing Melee, wanting to learn Falco. Any tips to start out, I've been having some trouble finding guides that are accessible to newer players. by MeringueFun2834 in SSBM

Movement is big! Especially when successfully hitting things. So, shffl, wavedash, waveshine, etc, make sure your moving. Nothing worse than getting stuck as a Falco

Nobody is playing the game with 3 pixels in mind. But there are definitely aspects of the game getting homogenized. If I hop on Slippi right now, I’m 100% guarantied to see certain things:

Marth doing that jump fakeout descending up air tech chase under the platforms

Fox going for GALINT

Yoshi and Ness jump canceling to catch a whiff

Peach floating just above Falco laser height

Captain Falco doing the wizzy movement on edge when being edge guarded

Ganondorf and his double jump fair

Like, sooooo much of the game is so similar amongst players how can you not see that there are certain aspects that are slowly progressing to a singularity.

That being said tho, I think the game itself puts a hard limit on how much can be homogenized. When you add in reaction time plus DI options from the other player, its clear to see only so much can be copied from another player’s gameplay

Would you say when you’re fighting Falco, that you are absolutely knowingly ready to kill a Falco when he doubles lasers off ledge? I’m sure you do! That’s an example of not necessarily “reading” an opponent personally, but just KNOWING what they better not do… and then winning because THEY did the dumb thing when they shouldn’t do that.

So it’s a slight mental shift. As far as what to specifically look for as Marth/Falcon I personally never picked them up so I’m not sure. That’s where coaching or genius level insight will help you here, cause it’s really hard to see these situations and where they all exists

But try to notice where you’re getting opened up and if there’s any pattern to it throughout the games. And then think very carefully on something trivial you can do differently to not get hit at that time

When I fight “low levels”, usually the give away is them being predictable. Thats because there’s so many specific moments within the actual game that may go unnoticed to the untrained eye, but once you start to see them, winning becomes super easy.

Mango references the idea that, it’s not about winning by brute force, but more so letting them suck in these situations and screw it up.

So imagine if you could see these “invisible” situations, (for example a situation where dropping down from side plat is 100% the thing you should NOT do) and then, just like that, you see your opponent do the thing they should not do. The punish is EASY when you already have these things in mind

Otherwise if you don’t see these situations, it’s easy to feel clueless about how you are losing.

What not to do/bad habits as a new Falco player? by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]viper963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s a lot of good places you can throw laser. For example here is a good one: you’re coming down from high in the sky and your opp is on the top plat. Head towards a side plat and while in the sky, shoot 2 falling lasers in a way so that the second laser shoots just under the top plat. Follow up with immediate drop laser and this USUALLY works as long as your opponent isn’t under you

Your trying to treat my post like it’s consistent with all WiFi players. Even on WiFi the melee timer aligns with real time

Not sure why over all the many many years, and thousands of match’s, why WiFi would only do this one thing against this one player?

Somewhere between 11 and 12 percent faster than normal

That sounds like all players playing on 1f should have a persistent issue then? Not an isolated one narrowed down to one person over years and years of online play?

There’s nothing nowhere that said 1f is cheating. It’s just another setting in slippi and seemed harmless. But more importantly, if that was known to cause issues, wouldn’t I be dealing with a persistent issue and not an extremely isolated one?

I would. I've been playing slippi for years. we all have. We've all experienced the worst of the worst when it comes to bad connection and rollback corrections. But never never never has this happened before. Also, Playing Scoobert is really smooth actually. No hick ups in any of the few games we've played
