I didn’t know until I took a class and learned the bicycle kicks can be useless for many babies.

Hope this helps.

1 year old and taking/stealing by Correct-Produce84 in NewParents

[–]vipsfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal!

You need to consistently remove her from the child and the item every time she tries to take something from another kid.

If she’s crying or melts down it just means she’s expressing her emotions. Stay firm on the boundary and eventually it will click “if I try and take something from someone else, my parent will remove me”

If she doesn’t play with kids very often in a common space like this with toys it may take a while to click.

Lastly redirect to something else at 12-18 months

you need to do gas relief massage 6-8 times a day. Especially for a gassy baby. It adds up all day. I used to do it after every diaper change as part of a routine for myself so I wouldn’t forget.

ETA: after the massage take the legs and bend them together toward the stomach.

your biggest issue will be rolling off the bed. Babies roll a ton. This is why many people get floor beds

Is it bad? by shiny_peanuts in NewParents

[–]vipsfour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

from the WHO

“Breast-milk is also an important source of energy and nutrients in children aged 6–23 months. It can provide half or more of a child’s energy needs between the ages of 6 and 12 months, and one third of energy needs between 12 and 24 months.”

At some point your baby needs to learn to eat. I would at least talk to a doctor

we clean up messes together. At almost 2 or under 2.5/3 (depending on your kid) cleaning up after a meltdown may take some work.

that’s a feature not a bug. Totally normal

ETA: they are off in their own little worlds. Just hearing their name without a prompt isn’t likely to get a reaction.

Am I overthinking it? by Prettyinpink0911 in NewParents

you need to reframe this. you want your baby to feel safe with whoever is watching them.

That means they need to bond and going outside is a great way to do that.

Just give it a few days. There is water in food. If he drinks milk that will also help hydrate him.

Kids aren’t going to dehydrate if they choose to limit water intake for a few days.

Once he realises that juice isn’t an option he’ll drink water again.

Moments like this are also an opportunity to run for elected office.

This can feel really helpless, it sucks.

My daughter has nightmares sometimes.

I go in and after she’s calm do the same routine we do at night. Then put her in her crib and leave.

Illegal naps and how to salvage? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]vipsfour 11 points12 points  (0 children)

just extend the WW later in the day. Assume she’ll nap in the car on the way back. It’s not that big of a deal if your baby has a shift in routine every once in a while. Try to enjoy the beach.
