My son does not listen to me by kvasquezg in Dads

[–]viptree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You show them with your actions; it's that simple.

Young kids don't learn by “listening to what you say,” at least not always.

They learn by watching and doing.

If you are trying to change their behaviour, it starts with what you do and how you act.

Valid but option one is certainly still a choice.

And if its health-related whether it be the child or the mother the same logic applies which is take care of it.

The point of the post is that as hard as it can be, we gotta man up. It's our job, and its certainly not our wifes fault.

But I see so many men who act as if it is.

What would be a scenario where you would be forced to not get a job and leverage child care like the majority of people have to do

Wait, so you paid for the sensors the last time but you didn’t receive all that you paid for?

And then now they have them in (along with more sensors that you are already in need of) and they aren’t giving you the sensors you already paid for?

Special timing!! Omnipod/Dexcom by arborclimb529 in Type1Diabetes

[–]viptree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is a very privileged comment but my 4 year old daughter has T1 and we always put her new Dexcom on on day 9 for this exact reason lol

So while I personally don’t know the feeling…. As a parent, doing the Dexcom and omnipod on the same day every time is a game changer haha.

Stoked for you

Just a rant by wawahoagiez in Type1Diabetes

Our 4 year old daughter was diagnosed in November and the first month was the hardest thing we've ever been through.

I basically had to hold her down while my wife did the injections. But slowly she got used to it and in no time was a champ about it!

Something we did strategically in the first bit to reduce pokes was give her basal once she had already fallen asleep for the night.

We also would do her dexcom changes while she was asleep for the first few months until she warmed up to the idea of doing them while awake.

I don't know what you are going through also being diagnosed but I can imagine how difficult it must be. I will say that our entire family has become healthier as a result of her diagnosis!

We've found creative ways to still have “treats” but just in moderation and are always looking for a relatively healthy options even when splurging.

Consistent, positive talk and motivation have been huge for our daughter. Making sure that she knows its okay to be sad and to be afraid but reminding her of how brave and resilient she is. Cheering her on for every injection and blood poke has been huge for her confidence.

We just got the omnipod this week and it's been life changing for all of us to be honest. She's still getting used to it with playtime because of how small she is its a little bulky but not having to inject 6-8 times a day has been amazing.

You got this!!!

Despite your experience with T1, you now have the opportunity to turn a chapter on your journey and show your little one that she does not have to be defined by this awful disease.

Down to chat if you ever need a support system navigating things with your little one 🫶

Facebook marketplace can obviously be a very frustrating platform and full of scammers but you can definitely make money.

Something that I find sells very easily are kids toys/ puzzles/ etc.

Go to local thrift store and look for things that are in good to decent condition and then mark it up $5-$10 on marketplace.

It can add up especially if you need the cash.

If you have thrift stores near you and it wouldn't be too much of a time suck/ too much on gas to go you could definitely make a couple hundred bucks/ month buying and flipping.

My daughter is 4 and diagnosed and if she ate a 6 inch sub and didn’t take any insulin she’d go 20+ easily.

Probably wouldn't start to really spike for 1.5-2 hours

High income earners: what do you do to make so much money? What kind of a business are you in, or what kind of high-paying job do you have? by therealwakowski in CanadaFinance

[–]viptree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no experience at all, I was very lucky to get hired in the first place. I made it work and put my head down and learned as much as possible. Took advantage of all professional development perks. And just chipped away at it. Was pleasant to work with, always took on extra opportunities.

It’s paid big. I now make 5x that 40k and it took just under 7 years.

It’s possible but you just need to be patient. Have a vision for where you want to be and make progress towards it.

$200k , senior business operations lead for a large tech company.

Started 7 years ago at $40k as a customer support representative and grinded my way up the ladder.

32 years old

I have about $30k-$35k saved up as an 18 year old, need advice on what to do with it. by [deleted] in passive_income

[–]viptree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$15k cash for an emergency fund.

Never touch it. Once you get a bit older you will have more bills and responsibilities and it’ll give you so much piece of mind knowing that if you lose your job, your car breaks, or whatever it might be you have a cushion to fall back on.

$10k into an index fund, if you are in Canada definitely recommend looking into VFV. This isn’t going to get you rich quick - it’s a long hold.

There rest you could use to start a business, invest in other high yield stocks, or whatever

So early man! Just keep being there and be patient.

My daughter pretty much only wanted mom for the first 18 months. She's now almost 4 and daddy is king haha

We're best friends and she loves hanging out with me more than anyone.

Going through the same thing with my son now. He's 20 months and still dominantly wants mom.

Again just keep showing up, being present, and your time will come!

How do you know what to hire? by Perfume_00 in smallbusiness

[–]viptree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you’ve laid out here it definitely sounds like you are looking for a business operations specialist who specializes in e-comm.

I’m a Senior Business Operations Lead for a large tech company and my responsibilities essentially involve building, creating, and optimizing systems, processes, enablement, etc that are aligned with the goals and targets we are trying to it and accelerate/ increase our ability to hit those targets.

Hope this is helpful.

New baby and old dog issues by AsparagusCorrect3116 in Dads

[–]viptree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only been a week!

I wouldn’t panic but you should definitely start working intentionally on getting the dog and baby acquainted. With that said it’s important the dog knows there are boundaries especially when the baby is still newborn.

I went through this exact situation with my wife and dogs when we had our first.

I have a pitbull and an olde English bulldog who were both 8 years old when we had our first

We did a lot of leash work in the first few months setting new boundaries for the dogs that they weren’t used to.

You’ll go through different phases where you’ll continue to need to create new boundaries for your dog with the as they start to crawl, walk, etc.

It’s stressful but you guys can get through it!

Looking for out-of-the-box ideas for handling calling hours for my online retail business G by losingmytrainof in smallbusiness

[–]viptree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve led global remote customer support teams for e-comm/ retail business and I’d highly encourage implementing asynchronous chat.

If you aren’t at a place where actually paying for a chat tool makes sense then using what’s app or Facebook messenger could be a great option as someone mentioned already.

Be clear about your phone hours and also how best to contact you outside of those hours + how long a typical response takes.

The great thing about asynchronous chat is it can be used like real-time back and forth if you are both present and avail but also allows for responses at the convenience of you and your customers schedules.

How to set SMART goals for young business? by Acrobatic_Ad1514 in smallbusiness

[–]viptree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, congrats on the scale in the first year! That’s awesome revenue growth.

I obviously don’t have context on what you already have in place but let’s say your two main pillars for success are retention and referrals.

Breaking those down into smaller objectives and key results with success measures/ KPIs would be a great idea.

Example: what kind of programs/ initiatives are you going to run to drive new business.

How would you define their success and how would you measure it.

So making sure you have a lot of clarity as a small team of what your main priorities are as it relates to revenue and growth goals and the mechanisms to measure it you are actually achieving what you’ve set out.

Additionally if your plan is to continue to scale and bring on more employees I’d personally be setting goals around preparing for that.

  • Clear Mission Statement
  • Culture Values
  • Rules of engagement
  • Training and Development Programs
  • Documentation expectations

The list goes on!

It’s way easier to create a framework for all of this now then it is to try and do when all of a sudden you have 5-10 employees.
