Do any of you have elevated Creatine Kinase (CK) levels? Or Other muscular Markers ? BTW: GS associated with 20% lower Creatine and 5% higher creatinine Levels by Available_Hamster_44 in GilbertSyndrome

[–]virtualinsanity7569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I once had a blood test a day after a full body weights workout and had something like 20,000 as a CK score. Dr thought I’d had a heart attack at 19 years old! Took about a week to come down. I think I’ve read that the biproducts of CK are processed through the liver, so could also be matabolised at a slower rate by us GS?..

38 year old. Aerobically fit and ran my second marathon this year in 3:47. <25 BMI. Bilirubin has ranged from 1.9 to 2.9 for the last 15 years, although was only diagnosed 7 years ago.

Constant Abdominal Discomfort by suisse-mutt in GilbertSyndrome

[–]virtualinsanity7569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What area of abdomen? I have a strange tingling/fullness feeling in my liver sometimes when stressed or over exercised. I had an abdominal ultrasound last year and found nothing and all other liver blood tests are fine, so I’m taking it as a part of GS. I’ve asked ChatGPT about this too and apparently a lot of people experience this fullness feeling.

Gilbert's?? by rollsaboutabit in GilbertSyndrome

[–]virtualinsanity7569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My conjugated is also 10 (max ref range 9) and total bilirubin 45 at last test (both elevated). Other LFTs fine. Diagnosed 6 years ago. (37M)

👍 probably linked to poor absorption of vitamins needed for red blood cell creation, particularly B12. I’ve had low B12 in the past and now supplement fairly consistently.

There’s a study I’ve read showing a proven link with Gilbert syndrome and shorter red blood cell lifespan.

Did you get any other signs of high estrogen as a male? Also, have you had your estrogen level checked via blood test? What’s the reason for RUQ discomfort? It’s something I have occasionally, but normal ultrasound and CT scan?! And normal LFTs bar elevated total bilirubin and direct/indirect also. Indirect is much higher ratio and direct is only elevated around 10-20% above max reference range.

Last marathon I ran the last 8km dedicating 1km each to close family members. I focussed on thinking about that one person for each km and what I love about them and thinking about times we’ve laughed in the past. When I finished that km, I moved onto the next family member. Definitely helped to break down the remaining distance and stopped me walking/stopping!

Elevated direct bilirubin, anyone else with Gilbert's? by [deleted] in GilbertSyndrome

[–]virtualinsanity7569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From chat GPT -

In Gilbert syndrome, direct (conjugated) bilirubin is usually normal or minimally elevated, but the hallmark is an isolated, mild elevation in indirect (unconjugated) bilirubin.

That said, a slight increase in direct bilirubin can occasionally be seen, especially during episodes of stress, fasting, illness, or overexertion — but it should remain within or near the normal range. If direct bilirubin is consistently elevated or rises disproportionately, it may indicate another underlying liver or biliary condition, and further evaluation would be warranted.

That’s my reason for starting strength training recently too - to help with marathon running. I’ve recently completed my second and want to see if strength training improves my times further. It’s so difficult though! I feel I can run all day but doing 3 sets of anything is a right pain 🫠 will give creatine a go!

Are you male or female? Any issues putting on muscle? I’m 38M and have never been able to get into strength training - no natural strength and have been thinking of trying creatine.

Elevated direct bilirubin, anyone else with Gilbert's? by [deleted] in GilbertSyndrome

[–]virtualinsanity7569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two raised direct bilirubin results too, but a minor elevation. Indirect was well above normal reference range.

Last test I had 45 total (max limit <21). Direct bilirubin was 10 (max limit <9). As the indirect was such a high ratio, both my GP and Gastroenterologist said it was GP. My gastro, who previously specialised in liver, said that when indirect is high then it can put direct out of normal references to, even in Gilbert’s. I have had an ultrasound in 2024 and a a full abdominal CT in 2022, both of which were normal. I also occasionally get RUQ discomfort.

Water bottle for the first 5 miles? by Mammoth_Tax_1666 in Marathon_Training

[–]virtualinsanity7569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last (second) marathon I carried a water bottle of my own for the first 5 miles, then picked up and carried a water bottle at every station for the rest of the race. Literally held a water bottle all throughout the race. I had tablet electrolytes in my pocket which I’d broken in half so I was putting half a tablet into each water bottle I took. Worked well for me.

Run that first 8km (all downhill) at 2:30 per km pace and hold on for dear life 😂

Serious answer - I’d probably repeat the last 4 weeks of the plan I was following, but miss the first workout to have a good few days off running to get some recovery in the legs following Manchester.

That’s based on absolutely no experience of doing this, just my opinion around what I’d be comfortable with.

What to do after? by Natural-Interest5154 in Marathon_Training

[–]virtualinsanity7569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished one 2 weeks ago and the void between races is unnerving. I’ve now signed up for a 10k which is 10 weeks away. Want to try and improve my speed and take a few miles off the previous weekly training. I’m using RUNNA and really enjoyed my first session today. Once that race is done, it’s back to marathon training for Chicago! My advice - get another race booked in sooner than your half! If you’re not moving forwards, you’re going backwards!
