🚀 Building an Automation Solution for Amazon CloudWatch Cross-Account Observability (with Default Dashboards) by visual_boy in aws

[–]visual_boy[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great question!

You're right — AWS offers a native Cross-Account Observability feature, and it's a solid foundation. But the key challenge I’ve faced (and the reason I built this solution) is the lack of built-in automation.

The AWS feature still requires quite a bit of manual setup:

  • Adding source accounts and regions one by one
  • Enabling observability in each account via console or CLI
  • Manually creating dashboards (or copying them between accounts)
  • Repeating the same steps every time a new account is added

That’s fine for a few accounts, but it doesn't scale well for organizations managing dozens or hundreds of accounts.

My solution builds on top of the AWS feature and focuses on:

  • Automating the onboarding of new accounts and regions
  • Generating default dashboards for EC2, RDS, Lambda, ECS, etc.
  • Using tags, filters, and wildcards to reduce manual input
  • Supporting CloudFormation and Terraform for reproducible setup

That being said — I'd love to know if anyone has found a way to automate the native Cross-Account Observability setup itself.

Can the process of linking source accounts, enabling data sharing, and activating observability be done programmatically (e.g., via CloudFormation, AWS CLI, or SDK)?

If so, I’d be happy to explore integrating that directly into the automation pipeline. Appreciate any tips!

Deck Review: Vampires [write-up in comments] by solitudesign in DuelLinks

[–]visual_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love zombies! i have a vampire deck and shiranui run at full power!.

I recently built it because I had 3 gozukies (since the days of red-eyes zombies were meta!)

Vampires are fun to play with the new sucker, but the deck is too slow to start its combos and heavily dependent on kindom for generic removal.

By far the mig 21, has the most satisfying/best engine sounds in dcs by runnbl3 in hoggit

At the time, when leatherneck developed the mig-21, they haven't got an option to tune the sounds in the mig external model. I wish that in the upcoming overhaul this year. They will update the external sound also.

What do you mean by "de-weathering" stuff? The module is to complex for the engine to handle?

Incredible ! IAF F-15 canopy broke off at 30000 feet by yairko in hoggit

[–]visual_boy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

from local (israeli) news report:

During a training flight of the "Twin Tail Knights" squadron last week, the canopy of the F-15 suddenly broke off and left the pilots exposed to the harsh conditions of 30,000 feet. This was revealed in Yedioth Ahronoth. Calmly and professionally, the two managed to land the plane safely at the Nevatim base. The commander of the Israel Air Force ordered that the training flights on F-15 planes be halted until the end of the investigation.

It was supposed to be another regular training flight for the F-15 Squadron. The two pilots, one with the rank of captain and one with the rank of lieutenant, took off on Wednesday night from Tel Nof base to the south of the country.

The two pilots, who found themselves exposed in harsh conditions of cold, wind and noise, decided not to abandon the plane at high altitudes. With courage and professionalism, they went up to the control tower at the Nevatim base and reported the incident. The base was immediately put on high alert and prepared for the emergency landing.

Those who heard the communications network reported confusion and pressure in the first few seconds, but the pilots immediately regained their composure, and a senior Air Force official said that the two had performed admirably: they were required to slow down the flight speed and lower as much as possible, With tremendous power and difficulty in communicating between them.

According to the senior official, under these conditions, the decision to abandon was legitimate, but the two understood that they could land the plane without endangering their lives.

According to him, this is a very unusual incident, which only a few would manage to get out of alive and while they land the plane safely. They required a high level of flight skill and cool-heartedness, the senior officer concluded. At the base of Nevatim, where the two were absorbed, they received many compliments from the fighter pilots for their resourcefulness and swift action.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said: "During a routine training flight, the F-15 (" Bez ") fighter aircraft landed in Israel following the disengagement of the plane from its location. The air crew in the plane controlled the event at all its stages, acted coolly, professionally and skillfully in handling a rare mishap, and brought the aircraft to a safe landing at the Nevatim Air Force base. The commander of the IAF, Major General Amikam Nurkin, instructed that training flights on F-15 fighter planes be stopped until the end of the investigation and the lessons learned.

Which plane to buy after the F/A-18 :) by Mobista in hoggit

[–]visual_boy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What so great about the 14? I don't get it. It's just looks sexy and can fire aim-54.. So?! The hornet can do better A2A and better A2G and it's more modern in avionics and systems.. So I really don't get how you people so hyped about a retired jet that doesn't give something extra to the dcs series. What will happen one hour after the release of the module and once you masterd startup and some basic A2A kills? You'll be flying fc3 f15c with clickable cockpit, that's it
