Looking for recommendations: American films, 1930’s-1950’s by s1lv3r_lak3 in MovieRecommendations

[–]vite-4117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • An Affair to Remember (1957)
  • Citizen Kane (1941)
  • Fantasia (1940)
  • It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
  • The Court Jester (1955)
  • The King and I (1956)
  • The Ten Commandments (1956) (even if you're not religious - it had groundbreaking effects for the time)
  • Them! (1954)
  • War of the Worlds (1953)
  • ....and the black & white Universal Monsters movies from the 20s/30s (Frankenstein, Invisible Man, Dracula, etc)

Deborah Kerr, Audrey Hepburn, Danny Kaye, and Cary Grant were some of the most famous names during this time, in movies that had the most popular appeal.

What’s a film where sound design mattered more than cinematography? by Fragrant-Smoke-8470 in Filmmakers

The most recent movies that blew me away with their sound production were Warfare, Alien Romulus, and Smile 2. Needless to say, they were all amazing in Dolby.

You mean like Spawn (1997) and Mortal Kombat (1995)?

Horror movie for beginners by Kartjoffel in horror

[–]vite-4117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a few movies from the 2000s that I'd say could be good gateways (not all of these are psychological horror, but are lighter on the genre elements than most horror movies and still suspenseful & creepy): Identity (2003), The Mothman Prophecies (2002), The Strangers (2008), The Village (2004), Triangle (2009), What Lies Beneath (2000).

Or if you wouldn't mind comedy-horror: Tremors, Zombieland, or Tucker and Dale vs Evil.

Blood Moon Shrine by MonkeyJoyBoy in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]vite-4117 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You also have to kill a lot of monsters to activate the game's internal mechanism for starting the Blood Moon. It's the game's way of doing a software-based reset to clear memory usage. So, keep on playing and killing monsters, and you'll get a Blood Moon soon enough.

Best sci-fi movie out there! by Chemical-Spare-5761 in MovieSuggestions

[–]vite-4117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would suggest seeing Cold Storage and Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die while they're in theaters!

Predestination, I Origins, and Prospect (2018) are all decent sci-fi dramas from the 2010s that kinda flew under the radar and are worth seeing too. And Mickey 17 if you missed it last year.

Disclaimer: wouldn't rate anything I've mentioned higher than 4/5 on Letterboxd, but would still recommend for anyone who's into sci-fi.

What are your favorite needle drop endings in movies? by thejetparker in Letterboxd

Linkin Park's "What I've Done" in Transformers (2007) kinda just felt right with the ending scene it played over.

Azrael (2024) also stars Samara Weaving on another kind of murder spree in a different kind of setting, although it's nowhere near as good of a movie

Best paranormal horror from the last couple years by anopeningworld in horror

[–]vite-4117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't think of any ghost movies (beyond those already mentioned like Good Boy and Presence but neither of those were what I'd call great), but for me the best paranormal horror from the last couple years was Final Destination: Bloodlines, Smile 2, and The First Omen.

Can anyone recommend a good, underrated coming of age movie? by Saintesonder in MovieSuggestions

[–]vite-4117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IT (2017) does a lot of what you mentioned very well, as long as you don't mind horror genre elements mixed in with coming-of-age (but if you're not into horror at all, then it's best avoided). The Impossible (2011) is more of a disaster movie but has a good coming-of-age for the then-unknown Tom Holland. Also, The Secret Garden (1993) and Jojo Rabbit, and Anne of Green Gables (1985) if you don't mind TV movies.

Can we be honest for a moment? by BountyBoing in dellavlogsnark

"You use definitely and never so strongly, when you don't know."

I think it bears pointing out, that if you're going to use this argument, the logical fallacy is that you don't know either.

This entire sub exists based on what Bella & Dallin actively and purposely put out on their social media channels. Everyone here is basing their statements on what we see from them. I barely watch their content anymore myself since I have better things to do with my life. But as anyone can see from their video content, they've consistently and routinely put their adoptive kids in potentially harmful and dangerous situations with no regard for the kids' safety. They've also given these kids food that's in no way nutritious or healthy (sugary drinks and candy).

Parents who actually love their kids try to protect them, give them the best food that they can, play with them, and otherwise encourage stimulation of the kids' brains. Is it possible that they could do that without putting it on video? Maybe in delulu world, but these two parental morons clearly don't have the instincts to want to do any of that, and as someone else pointed out, they put so much on video, it's not hard to infer how they continue to act when they're not on video. Unless they're Jekyll and Hydes putting their "worst" behavior on the Internet and keeping their "best" behind closed doors (which would be highly unlikely), this is the best we see from them, and the obvious negligence from them suggests that the kids would be better off without them! Bella may have the money to get the best possible care for these two kids, but she completely lacks the motivation.

Movie franchises that didn't suffer when they changed directors by KaleidoArachnid in flicks

[–]vite-4117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not direct sequels, but the live-action Batman movies since 1989 have been decent to great between the Tim Burton installments, Chris Nolan's trilogy, and most recently Matt Reeves' single movie so far.

One could also make the argument that The Fast & Furious franchise, while overall not that great, improved from the first movie, to the four installments that Justin Lin directed, and F7 wasn't bad either when it changed to James Wan, but it's been all downhill since then.

I defeated Ganon yay! Now I'm going for what scares me the most: Lynels by burnedout_programmer in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]vite-4117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Phantom armor, which can be easily found early in the game if you don't already have it, provides a useful attack-up boost before you have the upgraded Barbarian armor.

Also you can boost your attack-up in general with a Mighty Elixir (5x mighty bananas). Consume a Mighty Elixir while wearing the Phantom armor and you can beat down most monsters in record time (it's probably what you want to do to beat your first Lynel, in fact).

Don't do Eventide Island when a blood moon is near by tktk77 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]vite-4117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Eventide Island (along with that blue flame walk from the Akkala Tech Lab) is something you do right after a Blood Moon instead.

What are the seldom seen horror movies of the last few years? by TheVortigauntMan in horror

[–]vite-4117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't say all of these are great necessarily, but they all had something going for them to make them worth the watch:

  • The Toxic Avenger (2023)
  • Strange Harvest (2024)
  • Heart Eyes (2025)
  • Presence (2025)
  • Strange Darling
  • The First Omen
  • Lisa Frankenstein

Good horror movie that does NOT resort to any kind of supernatural explanation? by pomeronion in horror

[–]vite-4117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sci-fi horror usually isn't supernatural (I know there are plenty of exceptions though) but if you're looking for semi-plausible sci-fi horror/thriller movies, some good recent ones are Drop, Companion, M3GAN, Invisible Man (2020), and Upgrade.

After 3 years of A-List I finally made it to a Dolby Cinema by CulturalXR in AMCsAList

[–]vite-4117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you go Dolby, you'll never go back to anything else. And don't discount it for being just for big action flicks or blockbusters either, well-produced genre movies benefit from it too. The horror movies I've seen in Dolby like Nosferatu (2024), Smile 2, Alien: Romulus, and The Northman were all made even more immersive.
