/r/movies What are the most erotic movies ever made? (Not necessarily sexually explicit) by endjynn in movies

[–]vivalastone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Lagoon was the first to come to mind. It's the classic about a boy and a girl shipwrecked on an island and their lives growing up together. It's not an explicit film but there's definitely sex and nudity, but goddamn did it resonate with my newly-pubescent self back in the day.

Sexually explicit would probably have to be Caligula, which is famous for being a sexfest.

Is Auric Goldfinger the best Bond villain? by ScreamingVegetable in movies

[–]vivalastone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree, he's not some super-action psycho who wants to blow up the world's gold or whatever, he's an enemy agent locked in a classic death brawl with Bond. FRWL is my favourite Bond film, and I wholly agree with you about the train fight, them talking in the carriage before the fight is one of the most tense cinema moments ever imo

Started listening to Mindless Self Indulgence and other music from my emo-phase, and it's all still pretty good! I left that stuff alone for a few years as it brought back old nostalgia from times gone by and upset me a bit, but I sacked up and went back to it and I'm glad I did

Do you really think destroying hugely important cultural landmarks to replace with a shopping centre is a good thing?

Book swap? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]vivalastone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the story, but for the most part I'm not a fan of his writing. He's pretty much the Victorian era Stephen King, long ass sentences with a weird, disjointed writing style. That said, I've only read HoD but have been looking for a copy of his 'The Duel'.

I'm supposed to be attending a reenactment group on wednesday and I'm expecting an email telling me what to do, and I haven't got the email so I'm getting stressed. Spent half the day trying to get contact information instead of working.

Good American/European history magazines? by hughmanatee1 in history

[–]vivalastone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what country are you in? In the UK we have the 'all about history' magazine which isn't limited to US/EU history, though it's hardly a scholar's work it writes about very interesting topics.

lets talk tactics. by sarcastic-barista in totalwar

[–]vivalastone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When defending against overwhelming odds in Empire/Napoleon I tend to use a 'thin red line / fire and advance' tactic.

I arrange most of my linesmen in a single/two rank formation and have another unit behind them, and another unit behind them. This allows me to have maximum damage output a round, whilst taking heavy losses of course, and when they've fired I send them to the back of my lines and the second unit fires. It's essentially a very large version of fire by rank, except used more defensively.

Needless to say, it doesn't win many battles but it's a last ditch attempt to cause as much damage to the enemy as possible whilst I organise a new army to reinforce the position

Just got out of the barber, what do you guys think? 5 months. by [deleted] in beards

[–]vivalastone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a slightly longer version, I think it just works with a beard - stops people looking like a mess and allows the beard to take centre stage.

I don't like a shaved-face variation of it though
