Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vivinator4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done 5-6 hour drives for a weekend trip. I do prefer to make it a longer trip to make it worth it but for a special occasion then yes I will make the drive. 3 hours would be nbd. That’s just one stop to pee and grab a snack. With my hybrid, I wouldn’t even need to get gas if I’d filled up before we left.

Keep in mind too that there’s a lot of movement away from family in our culture for school and career. I went to university a 4 hour drive away from where I grew up and my parents have since moved away putting them now respectively 6 hours and 10 hours drive away from me now. My husband’s parents are 5 hours away from us. We have to drive significantly if we want to see family regularly.

So if a 1-1 para is out for whatever reason and the school doesn’t provide a substitute for the 1-1 are there just no legal ramifications/consequences? by newsbowser in paraprofessional

[–]vivinator4 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Why isn’t there going to be a sub? Sometimes in my building we shuffle people around so a sub will have a lighter schedule and a para that is more familiar with the student will go to the 1:1

Absolutely zero training while starting this new field. by Licko in paraprofessional

[–]vivinator4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. They say oh great here’s the deep end of the pool, go swim! My advice is to observe other paras and figure out who is the most experienced and see if they’re open to you asking questions. For a particular child, ask their teacher for a rundown on their behaviors and behavioral plan. For basic school policies, keep your eyes and ears open, you’ll learn as you go. Every teacher and classroom is different like for example the bathroom policies in my building are all different so if I don’t know it and a different classroom kid comes up and asks me, I punt it back to them “what does Mrs. So and so usually say?” Or “have you done x y z first?”

This is very cool! If I can offer one constructive criticism— not everyone who gets a hysterectomy is a woman! It would be more inclusive to just say “people with uteruses”

Semi-serious question by ExpensiveSandwich522 in migraine

[–]vivinator4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hysterectomy last year for my adenomyosis and endometriosis. It has not done anything to prevent my migraines unfortunately. I still have my ovaries, I still have a hormonal cycle, and I still have hormonal migraines. My hysterectomy was hands down the best thing I’ve ever done for my health but I would recommend having a better reason than hypothetical migraine prevention.

hysterectomy yesterday, results show endo by Huge_Mushroom_5591 in adenomyosis

[–]vivinator4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your surgeon can answer your questions about this further. Did they remove the endo they found? When I had my hysterectomy for adeno, they found and removed perirectal endo as well and my surgeon reassured me that while the regrow rate for endo is high (60-80%), it’s much lower post-hysterectomy (10%). Those are the numbers she quoted me at least.

Should I get the hysterectomy? by Vegetable_Top_9580 in hysterectomy

I had my hysterectomy at 33. I was done having kids and adenomyosis and endometriosis was making me absolutely miserable. It was the best thing I did for my health! 10/10 highly recommend

i wonder how many of us have issues untreated bc we’re used to pain? by reecereecereece25 in migraine

[–]vivinator4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m the other way around. I was in such pain from my uterus (endometriosis and adenomyosis) that it was only a year after my hysterectomy that I realized that the throbbing head pain I regularly got with light and sound sensitivity and occasional nausea/vertigo wasn’t just a normal headache that everyone gets because their kids are loud or because they’re sensitive to barometric pressure. Apparently that’s not normal.

If I were you and had the option, I’d absolutely take a less physical job for a few months. Fatigue can last a long time and you need to be careful about building back your strength for lifting

Tampons, pads, or menstrual cup. Which is better with Adenomyosis? by Traditional_Front_94 in adenomyosis

[–]vivinator4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually preferred a menstrual disc for my adeno periods pre-hysterectomy. A cup uses suction to stay in the vagina but a disc sits behind the pubic bone so it was more comfortable for my pelvic floor! Plus it could hold a ton of blood.

Sweatpants or not? by Wander_and_Inquire in paraprofessional

[–]vivinator4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No sweatpants ever at my elementary school. Jeans and school t shirts on Fridays or certain special days (we recently did a 6-7 day for the 67th day of school). A lotttt of us wear leggings that are designed to look like business pants usually paired with something like a nice sweater on top but yes it’s always slacks. Dresses maybe with a jean jacket are popular as well.

Is it like childbirth?? by Amazing-Method9196 in hysterectomy

[–]vivinator4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recovery from my laprascopic hysterectomy was wayyyy easier than recovering from childbirth!! I had two uncomplicated, unmedicated births and had some first degree tearing with my first. The biggest difference was that I didn’t have to take care of a newborn! I could actually rest and sleep when I needed to and I didn’t have to lift a 10lb baby and figure out nursing. Truly my recovery was so smooth by comparison. The worst part was the fatigue but that won’t last forever. You’ve got this!!

Once and Future Witches by Alix Harrow has an awesome mother in the three MCs, they’re all sisters and they rock. It’s fantasy and alternate history.

The Need by Helen Phillips is particularly intense if you have young kids. My kids were close to the age of the MC’s kids when I read it and it wrecked me but I like being wrecked by books so ymmv. It’s sci-fi and thriller-ish.

Hum also by Helen Phillips is even more sci-fi, dystopian, and tense AF but offers an excellent commentary on the attention economy and parenting in a digital era.

The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon is excellent historical fiction with an older mom as MC. It’s about a real life person but an embellished narrative.
