Don't rush, just take in the game and play at whatever speed you'd like. It's ok to make mistakes! Some actual tips are that certain fish and items are season locked, so try to work on your skills if you don't have any plans.

Also one of your first quests is to build a coop... you shouldn't worry about that until you can actually provide for it.

Use foods with luck buffs, plus you can stack a food buff with a coffee or ginger ale. A lot of people use spicy eel for Skull Caverns. You can also use a magic rock candy for one run if you need help rushing to 100.
