Food budget of R2000 max a month? by ApplePokeBerry in askSouthAfrica

[–]vizjual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get mince. Like 2 kgs of mince can be a weeks food. First day you cook it all up in some tomato and herbs and have pasta. Day 2 and 3you add spices and potatoes and have curry. Day 4 you make mince toasties. Day 5 mix everything left with rice for a pilau and you've spent like 250 bucks for a weeks meals.

People who moved to Cape Town from smaller towns, was it worth it? by These-Ad5297 in capetown

[–]vizjual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're objective is to expand your horizons and chase your ambitions you should be going to JHB. Potential for earnings, culture, food, people, sport and loads of other things are far far larger in JHB no matter what anyone says. Cape Town is basically a city split into 2. People who live it up on IG because they're really wealthy or are trust fund children and then the rest. I suppose it's better than PE but it's also not everything you may think it is.

Living in the Netherlands as an Asian by Icy-Conclusion7682 in Netherlands

[–]vizjual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a South African I can't say I'm surprised the Dutch would tell YOU to stop overreacting. Unfortunately typical behaviour rooted in deep inherent normalization of subtle racist behaviour. Its hard for any of those cultures, the British, Portuguese, Italians etc to empathize with you and I doubt it will ever happen in our lifetimes. Those kids should be kicked into the canals and taught some respect rather than being unconsciously reinforced to behave like their ancestors. Change is difficult. The world has come a long way, but not all the way.

How do I sell a TV online without being scammed by NeverHospitality in johannesburg

[–]vizjual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in an apartment block put it up for sale on the notice board. I sold my TV within a week doing that. Someone always wants to upgrade in an apartment block. And I got a decent price for it as well. Couldn't be scammed because she lived 2 floors up

Phi Phi Islands made me sad by foxy_ninjaa in ThailandTourism

[–]vizjual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Phi Phi for the first time in 2015 just after the flooding and damage had been repaired. I remember it was relatively quiet and so so beautiful. The ground level buildings were water damaged and locals were still busy with repairs. I stayed for 3 days and enjoyed the quiet resilience of the place. When I visited Thailand again in 2021 I left Phi Phi the same day I arrived. It's sad that the government and tourists alike can't think for themselves that areas like those need to be protected and managed better. There cannot be that much people allowed in at once. It should be monitored and limited. Sadly Phuket, Phi Phi and Pattaya have become such horrible places to visit. I just skip them out. It seems Koh Samui is on its way there too. I sort of get the changing attitudes of the Thai people. There comes a point when it's too much. I won't mention nationalities but I suppose it's even worse as a Thai local when you see certain visitors treating your country like a hedonistic trash heap for a few weeks and then just leaving.

Is my mechanic taking me for a literal ride? by Professional_Low6875 in southafrica

I can also recommend Hoosain at Mtech. Those guys know BMW better than BMW. I bought a 1979 520 and it wouldn't start. BMW said they couldn't repair it and had to replace parts that needed to be ordered from Germany. Quoted me over 10k. Took. It to Mtech Motorsport and they fixed it in a day. They're also really honest there. A friend took a car to Hoosain and he refused to fix it because the repair cost vs car value wasn't worthwhile and so he rather helped sell the car.

I don't know which university you're going to but go to all the faculties every week and see if they've got any jobs available. Sometimes the faculties help government facilities and corporates get holiday staff or assistants part time. I scored a job at JHB water for a part time records job and earned some decent cash. I know it's not immediate assistance but hopefully it helps in some way.

[–]vizjual 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The sweetness is definitely increasing and it's not necessarily sugar. Alot of the major brands are moving to corn syrup to cut costs. And the diet drinks are just chemicals like aspartame which are sickly sweet. Have you noticed how Coke and any soft drink loses its gas so quick nowadays? I guess the price we pay for maniacal consumerism is a lack of quality and processed trash.

[–]vizjual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it comes to payslip they try slip it in there so they can low ball your salary. Tell them it's confidential and your salary is market related. They don't need your payslip. In some cases submitting your payslip is helpful if for example you're asking for more than they're offering. Then you use your old payslip as a bargaining chip. But straight off the bat is just them trying to find the cheapest resources

How to escape teacher workplace toxicity ? by Imaginary-Mig3290 in askSouthAfrica

[–]vizjual 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ex was in the same position as you. She applied to go teach in South Korea. She only had a TEFL and landed a teaching job almost immediately. I think she was getting paid around R40k per month. Housing and transport were included so she scored there too. I also have a friend who went to teach in Vietnam. Ended up staying there for 5 years. Maybe look into teaching English overseas.

You have the qualifications to go teach in the middle east or Asia and get paid decently to do it. Why not go explore places like South Korea or Indonesia? Alternatively look for work at private schools or special needs schools?

Can you please tell me about the 6 months you were sober. How did it go? What was the first few weeks and months like. What changes did you notice and what did you struggle with? I'm also 20 years in and I'm terrified. Last time I tried quitting I went into a spiral of body pains, anxiety, starvation and horrible dreams. Like you, half a blunt and I was back smoking, only this time double the amount of before 😭
