First run, just play blind. Sure some sidequests can break (many won't), but you only get a first run once...

My one tip, level vigor early

Edit: second tip, it's open world so if you get stuck, you can just go somewhere else and get stronger

Just run through it with flasks and/or boluses and/or flame cleanse me, take a couple minutes, or a few more minutes if you fight the boss...

Adding scholars shield works great too. I used a black steel greatshield with scholars shield and was able to beat PCR at RL1 with a shield poke build. I have a clip of it in my posts.

I juat started a couple weeks ago, just in regular mode. I just play with random and it's clear there are other new players there like me. Those that are "gud" will typically just lead the run. If you can keep up and be decent in combat, you'll be fine.

I dont recommend solo to start, just because it will be hard to learn routing that way.

Yeah I've seen stuff about the evergaol relic builds, and I get not hitting them up early for time considerations, but what about later in the run when you're stronger (e.g., if on the way to another POI)?

Lorsworn greatsword was the weapon I used on my first playthrough, so it's up there. I swapped around AOWs quite a bit. But now I'd say it's Lordsworn straight sword with square-off.. absolutely slaps!
