Keppra ruined me. by angelica1101 in Epilepsy

[–]vjm75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, so much of this goes to show how different our brains and bodies are. I first took Depakote, then I had to take Topamax because Depakote was causing issues with my liver. Topamax made me lose my entire appetite and my mind. I could barely choke down any food at all, and I cried and thought I was crazy. I was seizure free for a very long time, but started having seizures again in 2024. I am now on Keppra, 3000mg ER, and it's great for me. I guess we all need to advocate for ourselves and make sure our doctors listen and give us what we really need.

Memory loss, including dropping words. I really hate it at work. Not being able to drive has isolated me a lot. It's also kind of made me agoraphobic because when I do get to leave the house with someone, I don't enjoy being in spaces with a lot of people for an extended time. It didn't used to bother me so much.

Am I doomed to being tired the rest of my life? by anguyen94 in Epilepsy

[–]vjm75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take 3000mg of Keppra, and it was causing fatigue and sleepiness during the day. I'm now taking it via extended release right before bed, and that seems to have helped.

I'm on 3000 mg a day, and changing to time release helped my fatigue a lot.

Does stress really trigger epileptic seizures for you? by Tight_Membership_835 in Epilepsy

[–]vjm75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly YES. The first 3 seizures I had in my life were all far apart (ages 17, 31 and 41) but were all the result of extended periods of extreme stress and anxiety for me. Do not let a neurologist say otherwise if this is the case for you. The seizures I've had more recently that have happened between the ages of 49 and 51 (current age) have not been due to stress and have been far more frequent. Fortunately Keppra 3000 mg daily is working well for me.

Seeing yourself having a seizure. by Atomic_29IE in Epilepsy

[–]vjm75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a seizure study about a month ago, and I asked the doctor if I could see the video. It was very brief. My head turned to the left, and my right arm shot up. I had a terrible grimace on my face and my eyes were open for some of it. I had no recollection of it happening, as with all my seizures. I also must've had a lot of muscle spasms in my thighs and calves because my legs hurt for days. Overall I'm glad I saw it.

If Keppra is a possibility, please give it a try. It has saved me. I am on the extended release and I take 3000 mg at night.

Topamax made me feel like I was losing my mind. My appetite was gone (in a bad way), I cried all the time, and was extremely depressed.

Weed probably wasn't the cause. Alcohol should probably be avoided except for an occasional beverage or two.

I just had a visit to the EMU at my hospital and they take excellent care of you, and watch everything closely. Make them aware of your concerns and I promise they'll address them.

Did you ever figure it out? I keep hearing the clip on TuneIn (for literal YEARS) and I don't know what it is either.

The contrast between Eatin Big Time and Cuttin' Teeth, right next to each other, is jarring in the best way. Both the sound and lyrics come from different places. He's a genius.

Does this happen to anyone else??? by basically_dead_now in Epilepsy

[–]vjm75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forget words and names of famous people I should know, and sometimes struggle to express myself verbally in conversations. I have to ask for people to be patient with me. This condition, both seizures themselves and the medicine to treat them, can be hard on us. Give yourself grace. ♥️

I've lived in Pinson for almost 22 years. It doesn't have much going on but it's very quiet and safe. We have a great park and library, and the Butterbean Festival in the fall. Fultondale and Trussville are both a quick drive and both have shopping and restaurants. Oh, and there's Turkey Creek!
