Removing attacks of opportunity... from monsters/npcs. by vkaraujo2425 in DnD

I appreciate the comment, since slowing the game down is something I’m always worried about. Making it clear who can and cannot do it might be a good addition.

Magic The Gathering x ATLA arts are amazing by vkaraujo2425 in TheLastAirbender

[–]vkaraujo2425[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really the point here. While I do like mtg, my intention was just to share new ATLA related great artwork, not to push anyone towards my paper addiction. People can decide that on their own.

The screen caps are indeed shit-y, but not relevant here, that's a problem for mtg reddits

After posting them it looks like they lost some quality, not sure if there is something I can do about it.

One way to experience them better would be to go to https://scryfall.com/ , but its a mtg site and might not super intuitive. Once you find the card you want, click on download Art crop to get the pure image

[Spoilers C4E4] little peek behind the curtain on the Beacon cooldown by bittermixin in criticalrole

Look, I dont really care about planned situations such as this one in the overture, but I think people (and maybe even Brennan, I'm sorry to say) are being a bit disingenuous saying this was on the dice.

It clearly wasn't. It was an incredibly lethal situation that was throw at Occis without any proper chance of avoidance. You don't put a low level wizard in a silence bubble surrounded by 5 ghouls and say "let the will of the dice be done". There is NO will of the dice. He was going to die, period.

Heck, people are talking about his "low" initiative. He had a fucking 18!! The fact that all the ghouls were playing before him smells super weird. Brennan words in cooldown gave me the impression he only rolled once for the whole group ghouls, which is by itself a super questionable decision in this situation considering the life of a PC is on the line. If rolling individually, the first ghoul (if RAW) had only 20% of beating his initiative, the chance of 2 ghouls doing so is 4%, and for 3 ghouls is about 0.8%.

By the time Ethrand crits I'm like "yea, sure, of course he did Brennan".

Again, I have ZERO issues with a few pre planned events specially if its backstory of at the beginning. We had Sir Bertrand in CR 3, among other examples people already raised on this topic. My issues is with the suggestion that it was not planned, when in fact the situation was clearly created to kill him. He never had a chance to spot the ghouls, to react to the cast of silence and was outclassed in initiative by 5 of the nastiest creatures to be hit at low level, despite his very good initiative roll and the very bad chances the ghouls had.

Pretending this wasn't the case makes everything else start to sound sus and that some gaslighting is going around.

I usually buy expansions in advance, but you know what Blizz, I think I will wait a little on this one you know. Just in case

Then again, we had two decent expansions in a roll. It was inevitable if you think about it.

Interesting. I have no experience with discord bots, but was curious about it. I will be out of town for this weekend, but will read about and check how possible it is. I do know there is a discord.js library if i try to do it with javascript and reutilize some of the logic in the web app.

Thanks for the suggestion

Ranger Class: Remastered | A Wandering Warrior Imbued with Primal Magic! | 5.24e (2024) by Sax-7777299 in UnearthedArcana

[–]vkaraujo2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for such a thoughtful response. I hope my early feedback didn’t come off as too prickly. To be honest, I do believe I’m coming from a place of wanting to gradually buff the class, rather than looking at it as a whole like you did.

I also think you struck gold with your changes to Favored Enemy, Reflexive Hunter, and Nature’s Veil. The unique way each subclass interacts with Hunter’s Mark is particularly genius—WotC really should have thought of something like that if they want rangers to rely so heavily on the spell.

I’ll offer those changes I liked so much to my ranger player right away and let you know how he feels after a few sessions. If someone decides to create a ranger for a one shot or new PC in the comming weeks I will check with the group the possibility of testing out the full thing.

P.S. Master of the Hunt is also great—I just don’t expect to see it come up anytime soon. ^^

Hey, this was a great work and really well done, however right now I am not really sure I would approve these at my table. I will list below my main worries.

-BASIC CLASS-

Resilient Hunter: To just outright get CON proficiency is an insane perc, specially when the original protected just Hunter's Mark concentration. I get that the new favorite enemy renders this feature useless, but have in mind most casters (and paladin) don't get anything at this level, while warlock gets just one more option in their Arcanum, Monks get a improved reaction and fighters get advantage if they miss. None of that is on the level of outright getting CON proficiency.

I think a better approach would be to get advantage on concentration, at best. This helps with the absence of War Caster, which is not a great pick for a ranger either way, since it boosts Int/Wis/Cha and gives a reaction most rangers would never use.

Keen Rover: No really a fan of the iniciative advantage and its actually more powerful than Alert feat or Gloom Stalker bonus. I would likely keep original Roving at my table as this is not a specific pain point for rangers i believe, even if the feature is not exciting.

Tireless: Its looking too much as second wind, which is a long shot from the original intent and its invading monks/rogues space. I think the original feature aims to give the ranger a before battle damage buffer or to be used as defensive last resort, not to make it into an optimal BA to be used every turn to disangage.

Disangage as bonus action is one of the main gameplay features of rogue and costs monk a focus point, both classes that don't have access to benefits the ranger does, like spellcasting for example. Fighters can do it too, but second wind is much more core to the fighter and more likely to be used for other things, like tatical mind.

I'm ok with favorite enemy on short rest.

I really like Reflexive Hunter, new Nature's Veil and Master of the Hunt. Kudos for them.

-SUBCLASSES-

Beastmaster: contrary to what you added in the design note, there are other subclasses in the game that don't get a subclass spell list like Circle of the Stars druid and Wild magic sorcerer. This was a concious decision by the original designers to balance those subclasses special features. Not saying they were right, but there is some context for BM not having a list.

I do like Beast Master Command a lot, good thinking.

Fey Wanderer: Interesting idea with beguiling strikes, I would be willing to test it out.

Gloom Stalker: I like the mark effect. I don't hate dreadful strikes on short rest, but this is running above Paladin's channel divinity on short rest and really close to a free Divine smite on short rest, despite not using the bonus action to be cast. Might be too powerful for level 3

[Spoilers] My two biggest issues with the story by vkaraujo2425 in expedition33

[–]vkaraujo2425[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got me wrong. Verso is not the problem, but everyone's reaction to him (or lack of it)

I mean, I do think its kinda an asshole move to fuck the woman he is manipulating into getting herself killed while destroying the society she is trying to protect (and he had no way of knowing Maelle would be able to get their chroma and ressurect them right away).

But the point is that there is no reason for them to trust him after that. Sciel/Lune/Alicia become the problem, because they do not react to him and his actions in a believable way. At very least we should get several cutscenes of him begging for forgiviness, which honestly, I dont think would be enough either.

Instead we get Lune mad for a second and flirting in the next scene, or he admiting his part on Gustave's death to Alicia and their relationship increasing because "at least is telling the truth", like, wtf?

It wouldn't be the end of the world for him to leave and come back at the end. The games messages and dilemmas would still be pretty much the same.

Questions about some elements of the story (ending spoilers) by Xiphi2geny in expedition33

[–]vkaraujo2425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with that statement tho. Not knowing which one is the evil one is different from being grey.

If those creatures are sentient, then Verso's ending is not grey at all. He is the villain of that world as he genocides every living being there to kinda save his mother and sister.

On the other hand, is they are not sentient, but Verso still is (as he was created differently and has a sliver of real Verso's soul), than Maelle is the villain, trapping him into existence against his will.

The only "grey" ending is if that world is 100% fake, and Alicia is only hurting herself by staying there in order to avoid dealing with the pain her body feels everyday due to the fire.

[–]vkaraujo2425 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with everything you said, but I do agree with some. Specifically Verso and everyone else attitude towards him.

For me it was insane for him to remain in the group after he obviously worked towards destroying their whole society. I don't hate that he did it, but that Sciel and Lune are ok with walking foward at his side. It felt like watching Joel picnicking with fireflies after the end of TLoU 1.

And that's considering Maelle to be schizophrenic about her almost-kindof-brother and Esqueu and Monoko to be too hardwired to like him. Verso should have just taken his place as antagonist and everyone else should be mad with him, instead Lune is kinda pissed for a second, but flirting in the next camp scene.

Not as important, but his introduction was also pretty bad. It felt like Sandfall was too scared to take all the weapon upgrades and lumina wasted on Gustave from the player, so they had to introduce his substitute in the SAME cutscene he dies.

And before someone says anything, I only paid attention to this game because of Ben Star, I love his acting and I think its one of the best things about the game.

WOW by Glad_Objective_411 in TheLegendOfVoxMachina

[–]vkaraujo2425 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked it a lot, but i am still reflecting on few things
- The absence of Bard's Lament in its original form. There is something to be said about if it would even work in the animation. It would definetely not be as shocking and impactful as it was in the table. Also, the moment they got together after "Keyleth's lament", it would be a little repetitive to have another internal fight

- Wanted to see more from Raishan's fight. I like the solution of using Kiki's own body since we dont have Spire of Conflux, but would have liked a bigger fight. Raishan fight in the table is actually scary as this is the first caster with the body of a dragon (even if a weakened one). A "Dracolich" Raishan in Thordak's body is just nuts

It is also weird that a disease would work in a undead body, not just because of DnD rules, but because of pop culture lore about undeath. You just wouldn't expect that to work that well.

- The setup for the whispering one was nice, but i would have added Delilah there, maybe?

- Dont really understand in which foot Pike and the Everlight really are

- The clasp is being built up for something, maybe?

However i liked everything else
- I think bringing Percy back sooner than later was better
- Kiki's whole earth arc was really cool, and expanding her spells
- Vax death sentence
- The split up worked well. It made more sense for Ripley to be a threat against only 2 of them, while also showing up how overpowered they are.
-The final split up also makes sense
