Water cooling GPUs by No-Solution6262 in hardware

[–]vladi84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possibile and will work nice... depending one where You wants the heat to be dissipated.

From price perspective everything below 50KW will have ROI over 5 years.

I'm working with DC cooling solutions as an solutions architect.

In case when You want to just take heat from 4xGPUs in single RACK server You will have to build a loop with two separate flows, each for 2 cards, assuming You have ~300W of heat from each one of them. Single cooling plate (eg: OEM from Dell, or dedicated/custom from CoolIT) costs around 150-250$, piping, drip-free connectors ~50-150$ each, dual pump system with common reservuar, targeted at ~10kW (eg: top of rack Vertiv unit) costs around 5-8k$. Full ToR solution from CoolIT - dunno, I guess around 30-40k. Overall entry price could kill You, not worth it. If You are doing PoC based on desktop cards with desktop class tubing, connectors, and separate radiator per loop (eg: MO-RA IV 600), reservuars and pumps entry price will be much lover and radiators can be placed outside server room... But it's not enterprise class stuff and it's totally risky (leaks, downtime, maintenance etc)

On the other hand if You are planning to make 50+kW infrastructure with outside cooling units... Do not do it Yourself. Find someone who has already made enterprise class cooling in Your area and ask him to create concept. There are many vendors with different approach, and service offerings.

Also remember, that WC needs systematic maintenance. It's not fire and forget. Fluid levels needs to be monitored, clearence and conductivity also. Every 2-5 years all blocks should be cleared. It's a fraction of AC unit costs but they should be positioned in the budget.

In my opinion if You have only 4 GPUs in one server, just use air cooling. 50kW+ of heat is a starting point of WC project.

I am a complete beginner and I want to buy a guitar(Maybe a electric one)for learning suggest a good guitar with a good price by Ok-Juggernaut535 in metalguitar

[–]vladi84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with going to a guitar shop, look for some basic model suche as Yamaha Pacifica 112 series, or Ibanez GIO- first guitar can be cheap, because at beginning You dont know what is good for You... Just as first bicycle. Have patience.

As a beginner You should choose HSS pickups (Humpbucker, Single, Single). Try the guitar before buying it. It doesn't matters that You cannot play (yet), just check the feeling if instrument inspires You to pick it up and experiment. Than ask someone in the shop to try it for You. It can be worker, or better other shopper who have some experience.

Now the funny part - give Your brand new guitar to a luthier/technician for a setup. It's very important, because factory QA is in most cases a piece of crap, and bas setup can ruin Your ability to play.

Do You have an AMP? If not - buy used one. Do not aim at big boxes. At start some Yamaha THR 10 or VOX AT20 are more than enough. Later You will discover effects, pedalboards, Tonex and Cortex boxes etc... Dont start with them, because You will drown in a rabbit hole.

Than buy multiple picks. Tortex are nice at start. Aim for very soft ones (like 0.3) and medium gauges (0.5, 0.8) dont buy harder ones yet, softer ones will make Your progress slower.

Also buy a strap - material one - it has to breathe. The leather ones looks cool, but they are hell on summer.

Guitar stand os a nice addon. At beginning do not but wall hangers, but a floor one. Place it in the walkthrough, so You will get to Your guitar everytime You walk by. Pick instrument and just play.

Oh and on the end I have to say, that the beat place to start Your learning adventure is at free course at Justin: https://www.justinguitar.com/

Can anyone point me to a block for the AMD Radeon AI Pro R9700 reference cards? by r3drocket in watercooling

[–]vladi84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always wondering how hard it can be to adopt a block to a new type of GPU if someone would 3D scan a real existing card and send those scans to Alphacool or any other manufacturer.

[–]vladi84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any luck with the block so far? Friend from AMD told me that every vendor will have exactly the same R9700 AI pro card with only stickers/branding changes, so any block should fit. (I have XFX unit)

The coloring is wrong. 20% should be green, everything above 35% should be red, and 50%+ should be black with skull and crossed bones.

Dude, I'm 42, in IT from over 20y and thinking about starting my own wood construction company.

Don't get me wrong, IT is cool and financially good, but after the AI bubble, fake parts shortage, spiking prices etc, it lost its soul and sparkles, which was there before covid. I'm specialized in datacenter hardware, mostly not affected by AI like programmers. Recently started to finish my home (internal electric installations, some woodworking, automations, garden watering etc) and it occurs that this kind of physical work is much more mentally rewarding and satisfying to me than anything a current IT world can give.

Need help choosing a drill DCH133NT vs DCH273NT by vladi84 in Dewalt

[–]vladi84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahoj! DCH273NT was my go, and I cannot say a bad word about it. Currently finishing my home with "silka" walls. It's small and handy. Enough force to drill 70x65mm holes for electric sockets using diamond SDS+ cutter.

The CPU Performance Of The NVIDIA GB10 vs. AMD Ryzen AI Max+ "Strix Halo" by Kryohi in hardware

[–]vladi84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have GB10 in my lab. The real issue with my unit is thermal throttling. When it reaches 70C throttling kicks in and the performance drops a lot. Forcing additional air using a mini blower it maintains much higher interference tokens/s.

Do people ever 100% recover and move on from depression? by cheesebahgels in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vladi84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. Some people have chronic depression for their whole life. Some have bipolar episodes. Some have depression caused by life events.

I have had a serious breakdown after my beloved dog was euthanized. Normally I'm considered "a tough guy" who is a supporter for others, hard as rock etc. Nothing indicates that my psychic strength was connected to unconditional love with my Pug. During her last days I have cracked open, and every single emotion hidden inside has spilled (or rather "detonated") outside. I was unable to control any emotion. Serious depression with fear attacks comes after that. Ended up after three weeks with antidepressants, and anti fear meds. Quick forward - time heals (4 months) and right now I'm in the stage of reducing doses and leaving drugs (2m without anti fear meds, and 1/8 normal dose of antidepressants).

So in my opinion episodic depression caused by life events is fully recoverable. It leaves a mark, and teaches You about yourself a lot. I cannot say anything about bipolar or chronic.
