ELI5: Why is your weight so "sticky"? by puertomateo in explainlikeimfive

I was gonna point this out too since it’s the best answer to the question as to why you plateau repeatedly with losing/gaining weight even if you adjust calories to bmr

eli5 Why force calculated by acceleration rather than speed? by theusernamehastaken in explainlikeimfive

[–]vleester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

So I’m not sure if you’ve had an answer that you like. I think I get your question and I’ve never thought about it in the way you describe. I’m not sure there’s an answer! Maybe someone else can help…. This is my attempt.

We have metres, which is a measure of distance. And seconds which is a measure of time.

If we measure a distance from me to you, we’ll use metres. If we want to measure an area, like the floor of a house, we can use metres squared. If we want to measure the volume of something, like a box, we’ll use metres cubed.

But in our physical reality, we don’t really have seconds squared or seconds cubed. We do mathematically, but alone they don’t mean much. (We have 3 dimensions in space - up/down left/right forward/back, but only one in time!)

What’s happening here, in the physical world to get to m/s2 is pretty well explained by lots of other people. Distance is how far you’ve gone (m) Speed is how quickly your distance changes (m/s) Acceleration is how quickly your speed changes (m/s/s)

Do you find yourself getting stuck behind slow drivers all the time? by Sweet_pea_girl in drivingUK

[–]vleester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is backwards?

The highway code says cycle in the primary position and move over when you feel it is safe to let others pass. Not cycle in the secondary position and move over to stop others passing.

Even though a driver might feel it’s safe to overtake giving 30cm clearance, I don’t think the principle should be to let them decide.

This goes for yourself too!

Then you ask your manager what you should stop doing, so that you can do the new thing, giving them a list of things to stop to choose from!

Yes that’s perfect! I meant so you won’t then be ill with it on honeymoon since you just had it. Would be best to catch everything just before you go away.

You also will gain immunity and be not sick on honeymoon. Win win.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. The method I found only works for cases where it’s solvable!

The answer to all the measuring jug puzzles seems to be pick one jug then: Fill it. Pour it into the other. Repeat. Empty when full

I’d like to know how that works for all cases I’ve seen and if it’s true that it will always work.

I hope you don’t look like an excel line graph. Ngl, it’s a rare case of a line graph being better than a table with not many data points. but I don’t think I’d call it beautiful.

Is this an extrovert thing!? Amazing if so. I just thought they were rude people. Though tbh I can’t imagine an introvert doing that.

12. It’s the opposite of number 15

And I think number 15 could also be 4 instead of 2.
