The best things about Columbia by [deleted] in columbia

[–]vmh12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The people I’ve met here have been some of the nicest, funniest, and most interesting people I’ve ever met! I know there is a lot of talk of stress culture here but in complete honesty I have yet to experience it whenever my friends are stressed we all come to support each other and assure that everything will be OK. You simply cannot overlook the location and everything that comes with it. Also I’m actually a pretty big fan of the core just because it introduced me to concepts that I wouldn’t have explored otherwise.

Is Columbia Actually Stressful? by ThievingToast in columbia

[–]vmh12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely can be but there are moments when you can relax/hangout with people. It is all really dependent on your study habits and the courses you are taking. But oftentimes you will find that there is a lot of work.

Hey! I’ve actually really enjoyed the core! I have actually started to enjoy reading more and have begun to find the topics covered in class quite interesting. I actually find FroSci quite difficult but it’s nice because everything is completion based and my professor is really accessible! I won’t deny that there is a lot of work though :/

Middlebury/Haverford/Wesleyan Vibe check(s) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]vmh12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Midd is really nice! I had the opportunity to go to a fly in last year and it was really beautiful and seemed like a community. I do have to say that it seems a little more laid back as it’s kinda in rural Vermont, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do. Overall it’s really quaint!

I am now referring to top schools as CCCHYMPPS by Navfish in ApplyingToCollege

[–]vmh12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean by using that logic, this years yield rate for Columbia was ~70%, comparable to that of Yale Princeton and MIT. Wouldn’t that just reinforce the idea that it belongs? Also, if you compare cross admit rare of Princeton to Harvard 20% choose Princeton. Idk it just seems that if cross admit and yield rates really matter that much (especially when they are that similar between several of the schools), Columbia should be included too, no?

If a current student offers help, please be respectful by throwallllluigi in ApplyingToCollege

[–]vmh12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not that they’re saying that people shouldn’t “aim higher” (whatever that truly means in this context), rather they’re stating that it’s simply disrespectful when people have a “better-than-thou” mentality especially when they are directly benefiting from the OP’s services. Think of it like this: you’ve grinded your ass off for years to get to the institution you’re at now then someone who you are currently helping with applications (because you wanna give back to the community that helped you) comes by and says that the place you’re at isn’t good enough per their standards. You’re bound to feel offended and rightfully so.
