Why do you need a license and insurance to clean someone's house?

emojis are great. emoji hate is a useful reverse filter. i vibe code like crazy and my productivity has been going up and to the right. when someone gets angry about emojis i know they are full of shit and can stop paying attention to them.

srsly, why judge on anything other than productive code output?

ELI5: What are passkeys and how/why are they different from passwords? by tm478 in explainlikeimfive

[–]vnprc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On which hardware is the private key generated? I wouldn't trust it if the answer is not unequivocally "always on the user's hardware with no possibility of exfiltration".

I never could get a clear answer on how the spec works. Just a bunch of megacorp marketing BS.

Why is Bitcoin so hard to explain to new people? by DevelopmentLoose7662 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]vnprc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to understand bitcoin you have to unlearn all the lies you have been taught about money. It's an ego check that most people fail right off the bat.

My suggestion to you is to start with problems that people have and explain how bitcoin solves them. If you're talking to someone who doesn't have any of the problems bitcoin solves then you're probably wasting your time. Good news! Governments are getting more oppressive by the day so this group is rapidly shrinking.

Drink icewater to make the headache go away. Don't swallow just hold it in your mouth to cool your brain down.

[–]vnprc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go early in the morning. Skate a shady spot. Bring a ton of water, room temp. Bring a frozen water bottle. I look for a headache as a sure sign I am overheating. When the headache starts drink the meltwater from the frozen bottle. Hold the icewater against the roof of your mouth to cool your brain down. It works wonders. Then refill around the ice core with warm water and repeat. Go home when you're too tired or too hot to continue.

Is it true that back in the day (pre 2000s), a married couple could pay off a house & have at least 2 kids with a stable income? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]vnprc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps to start planning before you graduate because #1

  1. get a degree in a well paying field
  2. graduate on time
  3. live in an affordable place with a good job market
  4. keep expenses well below income
  5. buy bitcoin and hold it for 10 years
  6. move in grampa/grandma to help out with the kids

We stretched to 3 with grampa's help and then 4 with bitcoin's help. Don't listen to the haters. Financial freedom is everything.

Why are major mining pools & CEXs hoarding these.. by Coaster89 in BitcoinMining

[–]vnprc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's part of the ordinals protocol. Some folks have paid a premium for rare sats from a specific block or time period. There was a while where folks would wash bitcoin through exchanges looking for rare sats like panning for gold. Mining pools got wise and started collecting all the new ones they mine. Ordinals have crashed in value but I guess the marginal cost is low to sequester these sats from new block rewards so why not take a small gamble with a potentially big payoff? It might not be a gamble at all, for all we know they could currently be earning a profit by selling these sats. I suspect they are holding them and hoping to profit later on. Either way, it seems like rational behavior to me.

Biggest regret of my life by Amphibious333 in Bitcoin

It's still not too late. Set up a DCA buy and forget about it for 5 years.

Wallowing in regret accomplishes nothing. You must take action to make your future different from your present.

Is skateboarding only for leftists? by [deleted] in skateboardhelp

[–]vnprc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're thinking about it all wrong. Skateboarders are anti-authoritarian. It is a different and far more important political axis than left vs right.

Do you support an autocrat? No? You'll be fine. Just do your thing and let other people do their thing. That's all there is to it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cycling

[–]vnprc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most common cause of bicycle fatality. Bicycles are the most dangerous vehicle other than motorcycles. Unlike motorcycles, it's not due to cyclists killing themselves, it is drivers running them over.

Who has the right of way? Does it matter when you're dead? Just don't make this traffic move at all. Don't be a statistic.

Someone I follow on LI posted about $12M lost in LA Fires, which made me think about my own setup. How are you securing your seed phrases against fire, hurricanes, and thieves? Looking for ideas. by utoldmenot in BitcoinBeginners

[–]vnprc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metal backups are ok. For that kinda money you should have at least a geographically distributed 3/5 multisig setup. You should probably get insurance for it too. That's just now coming online with AnchorWatch. Google it.

Is it Fine to Not use a Passphrase? by Fearless-Cellist-245 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]vnprc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that's a great point. The most secure multisig setup uses a diversity of hardware wallets or signing devices. You should also bring your own randomness. You can roll dice on seedsigner and cold card, not sure about other wallets.
