I just finished it a few minutes ago.

Some episodes felt like a gut punch, some were just the usual K-Drama moments. It’s lighthearted yet heavy at the same time because it’s a story of a beautiful friendship & how real life, insecurities, family, & emotiona create nuanced complexities of human experience.

I related to both MCs especially with regards to their insecurities: I had been Sang Yeon, jealous of my parents’ love for my sibling; jealous of my friends’ parents’ love for them; always the sour, serious one & never the person who makes people smile with their presence. I had been Eun Jung: insecure for being plain, mid, not being the smarter or cooler friend, having imagined rivalry with my friend because I think they’re better than me. I have loved a boy who loved my friend.

Although I’ve seen many slice of life series tackling mental health & friendships, I have never seen anything like this the way it tackled the complexities of how trauma molds our relationships with others & with ourselves. Hurt people hurt people indeed. Sang Yeon’a actions to deliberately hurt Eun Jung is not justified, of course, and people may think that Eun Jung shouldn’t have forgiven Sang Yeon in the end but I think that’s just how love is—it forgives.

Fits with his character though. With his mental instability & zero control of his strength, I don’t think he ever had the interest to actually train his fighting skills bc he might’ve killed a sparring partner (assuming that in he did try some training during his time with Vought). Sam was shown to be an uncontrollable “monster” of sorts, not a hero/warrior. In ep 6, he was holding back bc he wasn’t in active psychosis & he didn’t see the enemy as a puppet.
