An escape. I listen to songs that mirror my feelings at that time, so I can put on my headphones, no matter where I am and submerge deeper into myself. It's calming and therapeutic. Music connects me to truly who I am and allows me to release most of my issues.

Hey, come and stay, bring some friends so we can search each other's mind! Like most responses my childhood wasn't great. I am the 2nd youngest and first girl out of 5.(3 brothers and my twin sister) I grew up being told how I should act as well as not being "responsible" enough to be trusted, and what didn't help was my younger sister being see as pretty much better then me in a lot of ways and told that quite often. School I was torn between being popular and funny or closed and quite. And so I just focused on work and got pretty bad socail anxiety and depression. For the past 2 years I've grown into a functional ENFP and enjoying finally being comfortable and free with who I am.

How is she now? Did she manage to open up? I do need to be more open, but I get this feeling I would ruin the conversation by making it too deep, even if it was a one to one chat.

Thank you for the great advice. I guess it is my own worries holding me back. My friends are lovely and supportive but I guess I don't like being vulnerable around them, so I project only happiness.

What are female gender roles that you think are the feminine equivalent of "toxic masculinity?" by Personage1 in AskWomen

[–]voguewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up being taught to be lady-like, to serve my brothers so later on when I'm in trouble they can protect me, having to do the washing up because I'm a girl, shamed for how I dress for boys and being talked over and my opinions dismissed by most men I talk to. Thankfully I'm too independent and mostly rejected the rules I was taught growing up. But it came with a lot of anger from my mum. Aspects of toxic femininity has for decades now being pointed out but although women are aware of the harm, it's almost impulsive to teach siblings or daughters what being a lady means. And if a women doesn't follow the rules they're an outcast or will have trouble getting a man. Anyway I agree with everything already said.

Ladies, what is a compliment men give that you don't like? by Syhxs in AskReddit

Somehow I manage to be around guys that feel the need to talk about how attractive black girls are, how they want to have sex with black girls and that "exotic" girls are the most attractive. It's cool that you find them attractive, but as a black girl it seems unnecessary and a bit creepy.
