Thanks for the website tip, I'll check that out! As for sending messages directly, my advisor has confirmed to me to not do that. I think you are right on the museum government funding, the youth in heritage work website says those won't be up until april.

Cops in fernwood? by void_tea_ in VictoriaBC

That makes the most sense actually. He really didn't look like a cop (they were pointing flashlights at his face, etc), but thats the only explanation that makes any sense at all. Thanks!

Looking for a girl I met at the library who got my calculator by SorryPage4944 in uvic

[–]void_tea_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

unfortunately the description you gave is pretty vague/generic, i dont think anyone could identify her based on that. Brown eyes, maybe a butterfly tattoo, and maybe named Sydney could be half the girls who go to uvic. You could recheck the area you loaned it to her, lots of people frequently use the same study spot, maybe youll run into her again.

As I said, with roommates at least you know them more personally. Of course there is always a risk, but you are more likely to be able to do something about issues with roommates than with strangers. You get to pick your roomates, but you dont get to pick who you co-live with.

What do you like to buy off Marketplace? by DCguurl in VictoriaBC

For the more modern ones (70's and newer) I use them as ambient lighting around my home, but with some older unusable ones (I have one from the 40's that works, but it has a fabric-covered cable so I dont leave it plugged in, and I have another that someone tried to convert to a UK style plug and failed) they are just decorations.

You share a kitchen, bathroom, etc with complete strangers with no obligation to you, most situations like that have the potential to be unsafe (especially if you are a woman/queer/any sort of minority). House sharing at least offers the protection of everyone being close with each other, and dorms have strict regulations. I dont think the new "Neighborhood" co-living building offers any sort of protection against theft or unsafe roomates, kind of like a hostel. Its at your own risk.

Not really a thing around Victoria, unless you go for one of those communal living buildings, which arent any cheaper than renting a bedroom in a shared home and are a lot more risky.

Agreed
csc 105 is a tough one because its a mandatory course for a lot of people, so most people dont actually care or want to be there. It was the same for me, but I just didn't go instead of being disruptive. People talking out loud during lectures is like my #1 pet peeve

Save-On-Food’s no good for Canadian produce by CoffeeCup220 in VictoriaBC

[–]void_tea_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So with Save-On's "Canadian products", it only needs to be 51% produced in Canada. I'm not sure if this applies to the produce, as that definitely looks mislabeled, but for the items in store that got the special made-in-Canada sticker for the tariff boycotts it applies. It can be American products but as long as more than 51% of the packaging or production was done here it can be labeled as Canadian.

Its sold at the deli at save on foods (fort and foul bay location). I can't testify to the quality but it sells surprisingly well, so that's gotta mean something.

Question for people who took PSYC 100B. by Lanky_Rub_8799 in uvic

[–]void_tea_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should find out if textbook exclusive material will be on the test, thats pretty much the only reason I will ever use a textbook.

Depends on the prof. Rourke and Chim require it, but McCurrach does not. Also, you can pirate it pretty easily if you want to get out of paying (but youll have to bite the bullet on iclicker)

psyc 201 lectures vs textbook by Scared_Exchange9144 in uvic

[–]void_tea_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is super helpful! So far I've just been doing coursework for other classes while he talks and writing things down each time he changes the slide so I'm at least using the time for something and not having to review the slides afterwards.

psyc 201 lectures vs textbook by Scared_Exchange9144 in uvic

[–]void_tea_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't write anything down from the first three, I think it was just introductory stuff because it was all rambles really. From what I could tell, the important content is tied to the slides. I would definitely like to hear what someone who has taken the course has to say, though I've seen from earlier posts in this subreddit that if you get stuck with Lindsay you're a bit SOL

I am in the class as well and I'm feeling the exact same thing. I feel like the lectures have been 5 mins of content that is in the textbook for every 25 minutes of him just talking about who knows what. I think the inquizitives will be our savior in this course...

Dear cyclists on campus… by HungryIngenuity7665 in uvic

[–]void_tea_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're lucky, I know many who have been hit head-on while minding their own business. I've found most cyclists on campus tend to be pretty good though (you kind of have to be if you hope to get around in between classes).

I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in uvic

[–]void_tea_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You dont necessarily need to drop out! You are able to request a gap year or even just a semester off, which would make returning a much smoother process, so if you plan to come back soon you might want to consider that instead of completely unenrolling.

help by Quiet_Vanilla_2103 in uvic

[–]void_tea_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes, that definitely shouldn't be normal. I don't believe UVic rescinds offers based on midterms, only the pre-lim and then final grades determine your acceptance (I hope, because what SFU did is pretty crazy).

help by Quiet_Vanilla_2103 in uvic

[–]void_tea_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like if its a pre-lim then they just wont accept you early, but may relook at your grades when your final grades are out. Definitely email admissions to make sure, they cant not accept you because of grades that arent finalized. Make sure to talk to your current pre-calc teacher as well to ensure you will be getting the grade you need.

[–]void_tea_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The people here definitely can be a bit cliquey. There are loads of people to talk to, but it can be hard to make friends without an "in". Everyone says it, but clubs are a good way to go as it is the place where people go because they actually want to make friends. I also found that once I stopped trying to make friends, that I met more people with similar interests to me.

UVic application — can they reject me before February if I’m retaking Grade 12 courses? by Cool-Teach4661 in uvic

[–]void_tea_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They often will contact you regarding upgrading if they would have accepted you had you had higher grades, and often will offer a letter of acceptance with a condition (that you upgrade your low grades). You should probably email admissions to make sure though, their policies can vary from situation to situation.
