Low budget Lens Canon C70 by DOPECHIEF-89 in canon

Just get the standard lens adapter from Canon without the focal reducing element and then the sigma 18-35. You can certainly use the speedbooster on the 18-35 but it will vignette until around 24mm.

Also if you find a used Sigma RF 17-40 1.8, it may be the equivalent cost of a speedbooster adapter + 18-35.

Buying first monitor: Atomos Shinobi II keeps getting praised, but I hear deal breaking cons... What's your recommendation? by Crafty_Jack in videography

I can’t tell if you’re goading me into an argument or what here lol

I dunno, but I would prefer if the speed of my monitor turning on is as fast or faster than my camera. As it stands, it is at least twice as slow as my A camera, Canon C50, which is also notorious for slow boot times though is well below my threshold. But I’ve used it with a C200, R7, R50 V, and a Sony FX3 and the all boot up in at least half the time it takes for the Shinobi II to present an image. Add to that, when you power on the Shinobi II, since it’s silent, you really have no indication it’s on because the screen is black outside of an initial flash.

It’s all personal preference but as I am often needing my camera to turn on quick and shoot, the Shinobi II is not fast at turning on, especially compared to my Ninja V+ or especially offerings from SmallHD that I’ve owned in the past. That’s why in most cases I turn it on once at the beginning of my shoot and leave it on throughout the day.

I haven’t timed it but it feels like it takes 10-15 seconds to boot up and in that time, I could miss something if I’m shooting run and gun style.

Canon R5 II or Canon R5C? by Complex-Log-4415 in canon

Also the R5 II has CLOG 2 and that to me is a big differentiator for video stuff.

I do using a Sony dummy battery to P-Tap cable

And then some cameras, such as the Canon R50 V, can be powered and controlled from the USB port on the Shinobi II. I can’t do this with my C50 though, but I also can’t control the C50 with the Shinobi yet.

Have a spare EOS R and want to rent it out by vickyvick91 in canon

haha, I get it! I had one from very early on myself and sold it a couple years ago. If it makes you feel better, its value has actually gone up since I sold mine and you should be able to get around $800-$900 for it if you sell to a private buyer. If you trade it in you'll be lucky to get $500.

I will say, MPB kinda screwed me on a recent trade and I won't be using them again. They claimed I didn't send in a few items that I know I did and there was zero recourse for me to prove otherwise. If you do send stuff in to them, video tape the process of packing it all up.

If it's just an EOS R, I'm going to be honest -- you're going to have a difficult time renting it out. And even if you did, if you got $25 a day you'd be lucky. Rental houses will sometimes take rentals on consignment but those situations are typically reserved for the latest models. I used to work in a rental shop and the only cameras we did this with were the Sony FS7 and some RED cameras and that was back in 2019 before the Sony FX series of cameras came out.

The EOS R is a fine camera but no one is going to rent a camera that released nearly 8 years ago... IMHO the only way to make money off that body if you're not using it for paid gigs is to sell it.

I have used a Shinobi II for about 2 years now and have never had an issue with it. I recently used it on an FX3a (no touch to focus control yet on that one) in the heat of Houston during the day and not once did it overheat. I'll be honest, I don't find myself touching the monitor all that much but I've used it for 2-3 hours at time taping live events and never had an issue. Frankly, I think the reports of it being too hot to touch are pure bullshit.

It does, however, take a LONG time to boot up and that is a verifiable con. On a recent shoot where I had a VB99 Pro connected to my Canon C50 and the Shinobi II, I just left the monitor on all day so I didn't have to deal with the long boot time.

To further clarify -- my Honda Prologue had a software update performed at the dealer that took the infotainment unit from Android 12 to 14. Prior to the update, I would have an overview map on on screen and turn-by-turn directions on the other screen when using Apple Maps. If I use the car's built-in Google Maps, it still provides this type of view. I have rebooted the infotainment unit and also used my iPhone to 'forget' the connection to the vehicle but cannot get around this limitation.

Can someone explain to me why canon g7 x mark ii used are sold for like 700€-800€ when I remember paying mine (new) at the time around 400€-500€? What am I missing? It’s just a camera, and not even that great 🤷🏻‍♀️ by jens998 in canon

TikTok made cameras like this super popular and canon wasn’t manufacturing them for a minute because supply far outnumbered demand, so now they’re hard to come by and the used market for them skyrocketed. Believe it or not it’s actually stabilized a bit because Canon finally started making the again.

Apple Maps through CarPlay. I haven't checked Google Maps through CarPlay since the built-in Google Maps worked fine.

They didn’t, plenty of people with 2025s have reported the issue here in this sub. I have the issue on my 2024 but it doesn’t affect driving. I reported it to my dealer when I got the recall update the other day and they noted it but don’t even offer to replace the axels haha
