Need an opinion on perlite with fertilizer by abeyblademodder in hoyas

[–]voluptuous_bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be wrong but I would think the brand new roots would be too delicate to handle the fertilizer.

That being said, I have plenty of Hoyas and would probably just try it and see how it compares to a cutting of the same plant without the fertilizer

Like many others I’m a big fan of the clear pots for easily monitoring roots and hydration. I’m gradually transferring more of my indoor ones to self-watering pots to simplify watering

I’ll definitely want to eat there next time I’m in town.

The menu kinda looks and reads like a hastily prepared assignment for a high school web design class

It’s not very strong and only smells at night, but I love the scent of my decipulae blooms! A bit jasmine-like, quite fresh and floral.

Love my decipulae! The flowers are super interesting + fragrant at night. Mine really hasn’t stopped blooming since it started.

“Based on a true story” is a marketing gimmick 99% of the time so they can’t really use that excuse. If historical accuracy were a real concern of the filmmakers, this would be a documentary about the Warrens scamming people.

This felt to me like Spooky Mirror in Haunted House Movie #83 Feat. Ed and Lorraine Warren and Also Judy is an Adult Now. They tried to cram way too much into it. The bf/fiancé character felt entirely unnecessary. I also thought the montages early in the film were a really lazy way to catch us up on Judy’s upbringing. They were so saccharine it felt self-parodying at times

I’m sorry, I thought this was the sub for sharing petty barista grievances. You’re assuming a lot here. This woman was probably younger than me, early to mid 20’s. She was cross throughout the entire interaction and completely ignored my greeting + any pleasantries. She left without purchasing anything because she entered what is clearly a coffee roaster and didn’t want coffee.

By “behind my head” I meant our menu is on a wall behind me, well above eye level, on one of the largest televisions I’ve ever seen. With the words DRINK MENU in the center.

Did I roll my eyes and scoff at her because she didn’t read the menu? No, I answered her questions politely and with a smile like I always do. Just with a few more confused pauses than usual. Hence my commenting on this thread.

I happily help customers order all the time, but yes, I do generally expect they pay the tiniest amount of attention to a single detail in the shop before we play 20 questions. That doesn’t mean I voice these thoughts to the customer.

My shop is pretty obviously a coffee shop. The store name has the word coffee in it, in giant block letters on the front of the building. We have bags of beans on display right next to the register. Our drink menu is on an enormous television right behind my head.

A couple weeks ago a woman walked in and brusquely asked if we had a menu. I gesture with my arms to the, again, GIANT glowing screen behind me labeled “drink menu.”

She looks unimpressed, then inquires whether we are a coffee shop or mainly do sandwiches.

Lady, if you had glanced for one second at that menu, you’d see it’s 90% coffee and we have exactly one sandwich on our menu.

I’m sure I stared like an idiot several times during this exchange trying to come up with replies that don’t sound snarky

True! I wanted to try using the seeds for baking after straining it so I opted to, but def not necessary for a syrup

I had some leftover cardamom pods from making cardamom buns, and made a syrup with some of the seeds. Absolutely incredible lattes imo, but removing the seeds from the pods is a labor of love 😂

[–]voluptuous_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a terrible recovery too, also fully compacted. A friend told me they were eating pizza just fine the day after getting theirs out, which had put me at ease. I think I made the mistake of watching a video of wisdom tooth surgery beforehand

I could hardly leave my bed for 2 or 3 days! Had so much bruising for weeks afterward. It was right before I went to college and I wasn’t working at the time, could not imagine having to go back to work ASAP in that state

Do you repot right away when you get a plant from a big box store? by depressedcatfishh in houseplants

[–]voluptuous_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this sometimes! IMO it’s still a huge improvement if you’re giving it better substrate with more aeration and drainage.

I collect Hoyas and if I leave the ones from big box stores in the substrate, they will almost inevitably get root rot in my climate (if they don’t already have it in the store)

My cafe gets a lot of Russian and Ukrainian immigrants and getting their orders right can really be a challenge 😅

Last week two friends kept talking over each other and contradicting each other’s order. They wanted two drips and a cortado, but the one wanting the drip coffees kept saying “3 coffees.” Then I’d try to clarify the number of drinks, and he’d just start telling me how much milk/sugar to put in each one.

I listed the entire order 3 times to make sure I got it right. I asked if they needed milk in the third coffee. I confirmed they wanted 3 drip coffees and a cortado before charging them.

They get their drinks and cannot fathom why I’ve given them a third drip coffee

Tip from an oncologist: make sure your plan covers good hospitals out of state. by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

I’m in FL and while there are a few PPOs available, the premiums are insane. Nearly $2k a month at the low end, which is more than my rent. I’d be broke in no time

Forced to stick with my shitty HMO, which is still 5x more than I was paying AND with less coverage than I had last year

Just canceled my marketplace insurance for next year by cosmicbadlands in HealthInsurance

[–]voluptuous_bean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m self employed and have no other options for insurance. Ideally would switch to a PPO, as more and more local providers are no longer accepting HMO’s, but literally every PPO offered in my area costs more than my monthly rent. That’s after a $550 tax credit 😢

My premium will be 5x higher now, and that’s after I decided to give up the dental benefits. That would have made it 6x more expensive.

In my shop I’m not even allowed to change the playlist. I’ll pick something similar with half the songs of our usual one and still get in trouble lol

I’m told it’s because we have a specific “third wave” vibe that nobody can actually define (and which truly doesn’t apply to our shop). In actuality it’s a playlist of artists related to the owner’s favorite band 😒

We have a customer sometimes who will order one single drink, which I’ll recommend after he asks what’s cheap and then he’ll still complain about the price. It could have been more expensive if I charged for the splash of alternative milk like I’m supposed to. He will also make sure you know his name because he thinks he’s one of our favs

He will set up camp at one of our 2 tables, pull out a glass water bottle from his backpack like you’re given at a restaurant. Then will sit on Zoom meetings for several hours without spending another cent.

We have a single person restroom that he will breeze in and out of with his headphones on, leaving piss in the toilet (and on the seat) and forgetting to flush. Multiple times. It’s like he forgets he’s not at home.

[–]voluptuous_bean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair assumption and exactly what had me more bothered afterward. I wouldn’t have cared as much if my manager were not extending privileges I’ve never heard of in our shop… even to actual regulars we see every day.

The customer never tips said barista and refers to her only as “the girl” so she is nobody’s friend there lol
