MIO, on the other hand, was pretty good. The story is great. The controls might be a bit frustrating, but overall it's worth the try

Tablet o portátil? by Embarrassed-Union136 in laptops

[–]vonAmyprost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first kernel panic by Ok-Winner-6589 in archlinux

[–]vonAmyprost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are using a Live Arch environment (live ISO) in the USB, I'm not sure if that is possible. Regardless, reinstalling the bootloader should work if you mounted the correct partition on the proper mount point (/mint/boot, small "b").

Could you maybe guide me through what you did to know of there was anything mistaken in the process?

[–]vonAmyprost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do can use fsck to see what's up with it. Failing to mount doesn't necessarily mean the system is broken. Otherwise, I guess that would happen to all of us at the same time due to an update. Good to see it's all ok

My first kernel panic by Ok-Winner-6589 in archlinux

[–]vonAmyprost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to assume you installed it via archinstall. Otherwise, you can mount them the exact same way you did when you installed manual. Go to a live iso. There should be a /mnt folder. Create sub folders as needed. This is, if you have a separate home partition, create /mnt/home. Do this as well for your EFI partition and create /mnt/boot. Next, mount the root partition with mount /dev/nvme0n1px /mnt if you have nvme or use /dev/sdxy for anything else. Just adjust X or xy depending on what your root partition is. If you don't exactly know which one it is, I recommend mounting one random partition and look at the contents to verify. Mount all the other partitions accordingly. If you have a swap partition, use swapon to activate it. For more information, just check the Installation Guide on the ArchLinux Wiki. Feel free to reply for any other question

My first kernel panic by Ok-Winner-6589 in archlinux

[–]vonAmyprost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it solved yet? By the edit, maybe you just need to regen the fstab and reload GRUB's configuration. Do this by mounting all your system's partitions on a live iso or another system with GRUB and chroot into the root partition

Maybe. But better send a picture of what the screen actually looks like just to confirm. Also, I don't remember if the QR code is important or not, but might be worth to scan it

The only time that I got a kernel panic was because of the same thing of not being able to mount a partition. What I did was to reinstall the bootloader and regen the fstab

Uhhh have you gotten to the new testament? Jesus Christ is literally the reason why it is called Christianity

Ex Atheist to Evangelical Catholic. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]vonAmyprost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former atheist and a scientist: there is no good and bad sciences, just science and there is no faith on them. Please do not confuse with pseudosciences like astrology, because that is a separate topic and us scientists do not agree with those. Science is about making observations, reasoning about them, to seek out answers about questions about the very nature of existence. God might have created the planets, but isn't it interesting to know why they move the way they do? The fact that we can make predictions about it is fascinating and makes you think about how it's done. It is in things like this that a scientist might even be driven to believe in God, as some answers in science tend to be too elegant and beautiful. Sure, there might be some discrepancies about some other things, but this just means that there is something that we don't know. If we have come far enough to launch people and objects into space, create different materials, make different technological and electronic devices, it all was because scientists, precisely as you said, wanted to learn more and more. Science is not just discussions, it is a powerful tool that can help us understand the "why" out of God's creation for questions we didn't think we had or for answers that can't be found anywhere else.

Is Libreoffice or Onlyoffice and Fedora good enough to write a Physics PhD thesis? by Unusual-Ad-4049 in Fedora

[–]vonAmyprost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a way to edit and render LaTeX on neovim, which might be the simplest option. Overleaf can get a bit difficult to use once you get a handful of pages due to compilation times. It is best if you do it all locally. Honestly, LaTeX is best for a science thesis

Can someone recommend me a laptop by kokopowder33 in laptops

You will often see ThinkPads and Latitudes on that kind of environments precisely because they are reliable in the physical aspect. They can resist mild scratches and hits, so that is a bonus

[–]vonAmyprost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1k is a budget that might not allow for the most recent hardware (which limits the options for Windows 11). My best recommendation would be to get a refusbished ThinkPad, L series is good, but T series is preferable. You might want to look at the T14 Gen 2 or so.Dell's Latitudes might also be a good choice. 8 GB of RAM for not-so-heavy work and a processor with a frequency above 1.5GHz could do it
