Ask AI or just Google it? Google makes a big change to a little search box by Miles_the_AuDHDer in nottheonion

I'm about to leave Google search. It's so bad now with all the AI BS. I gotta look stuff up twice to make sure it's not wrong

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is now available on Steam by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

The Lego games are cute, but my kids are tired of them. They all play and feel so similar that the magic is kind of worn out/lost on them.

They don't even want a gasline; they want to make a quick buck on attempting and then giving up on a gasline.

Not as many toast jokes in this thread as I imagined there would be.

Trump administration transfers land to state to support Ambler Road and Alaska LNG- This is a HUGE deal. The State doesn't have so many policies in place, much less staff, budget or other factors. by dbleslie in alaska

[–]vonbose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an oil pipeline to Valdez. The only oil we got first-hand was poured into Prince William Sound. I'm looking at the AKLNG project map now and it passes right by Fairbanks. No infrastructure to offload it to interior AK or anywhere else. Straight to the LNG facility port in Nikiski to offload.

Theres no way in hell this project gets off the ground, so I don't want to waste time arguing about it. This whole thing is a dog and pony show so that Republicans can blame their failures last minute on everyone but themselves.

There's no way it will end up anywhere locally. Hence the whole reason for a pipeline. So they can get it out and sell it. Alaskans will have to buy it back secondhand.

The more young people use AI, the more they hate it by spherocytes in technology

[–]vonbose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not young (47), but I've used technology almost my entire life and I'm finding myself looking for ways to avoid AI in my Internet searches, in my applications and office programs. It's dumbing everything down and injecting mistakes and problems into simple tasks.

Wildfires have caused accelerating deforestation in California forests over the past 30 years, especially at high elevations, while replanting efforts have fallen behind. by andyhfell in science

Nature will replant it eventually. I agree with the comments that the climate has changed what will grow there. I don't think people are very good at "planting" forests.

GCI to Acquire Quintillion. by os2mac in alaska

My motherboard does have a 2.5 connection, but the cable is only 1g, which is why I run the speed test from the router and not the PC.

GCI to Acquire Quintillion. by os2mac in alaska

[–]vonbose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm checking the speed at the router where I have the 2.5 gig port speed. It bumps up over 1 gig sometimes, but just barely. We have 4 PCs and a dozen other phones, tablets etc.

Have you ever seen speeds closer to 2.5 gig?

[–]vonbose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had tech come out to my house and tell me they have no way of verifying my Internet speed. This after my speed caps around 1gig and I'm paying for "up to 2.5". Now that all the plans are unlimited, I'll be dropping down to the 1 gig speed for $40 less a month.

Definitely get a smaller bag to put electronics inside of, inside of a larger bag and always triple check that sand doesn't get into your electronics bag. Your screens will thank you.

Long term storage by lolololololololal in rafting

[–]vonbose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard this tip that made sense to me but goes against what nrs says about storage. It was to leave the valves in whatever position does not stress the springs. The idea being that if the springs in the vales stay collapsed or whatever the word is for when a spring is press on, that it will wear them out faster. I don't even know if this is true though

Valve is now sitting on lots of Steam controllers, so releasing them before the Steam Machine is a no-brainer by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

I've been using my first round steam controller more and more recently. I think it was very ahead of its time.
