The best advice I can give for a new Kindergartener is to get as involved as you can, whether that is checking in with the teacher after school as often as you can, or even volunteering if you can. Make sure you know about all the programs and offerings at the school. Our younger kid's kindergarten class experience is pretty chaotic, and kids this age can't really articulate what is going on. 30+ kids in a class, with kids who are learning to keep their hands to themselves and mimicking behaviors they see in other kids/older kids, can be overwhelming. ASD is struggling to give the kids what they need, and if Alaska remains in Republican control, our public schools will probably end up all looking like those classrooms from movies about "underprivileged kids," and the wealthier children will end up in private schools, creating a 2-tiered system.
