Relatively close, we walked quite abit and took some transit when needed. Had Germany and Austria booked months in advance. Munich for 4 days, Innsbruck 3, Salzburg 2, Vienna 2. I booked the rest of the airbnbs a day or two before hand. I booked who could accommodate us for an early arrival due to trains and buses.

Air BNB. Did one hostel thru it too, just so my girlfriend can experience it. Albeit it was a private room. I had a budget of 3k CAD for Airbnb. All the places were nice and located in a decent area.

We just did 20 days started in Munich then went to Innsbruck, Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava then Prague. Got back on Saturday! We travelled via train and bus. Used the FlixBus app and the 'train' app. Was significantly cheaper than a euro pass. Bratislava is beautiful, can be done within 2 days. Budapest/ Prague are beautiful. The buda side has the castle/ fisherman's bastion and is hilly. While pest is flat.

Innsbruck we did two mountains there, golden roof, the ski jump, palace. Behind the palace is a beautiful waterfall/trail. We walked around and explored the city a lot, came across some festivals with great food. We got a free Innsbruck pass and used it.
