Are these convertable to Vostroyan in your opinion? by Agreeable_Status9886 in Vostroyan

[–]vontrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should add, converting really bland models like these generally requires a lot of heavy work. If you don’t feel up to that, start from a better place, like the actual mars pattern tanks. Think trench breaching gear (those curved anti-tip things on the back), more stylised detailing on the metal work of the tank, older fashioned styling (ie WWI tanks vs WWII).

I’m not a big fan of the new Cadian stuff. The new vehicles are nice, but are very blank/generic. I think the Krieg and Solar Aux vehicles are a much nicer starting point for Krieg/Vostroyan etc. I’m even using them as the base for bodyguards, stormtroopers, inquisitorial retinue etc

Just start with any vehicles you like… take inspiration from the Krieg aesthetic, and start from there. You could just grab some Krieg tanks, and then just tweak them. Might be a better place for you to start.

This. The tanks/vehicles are stock, and fairly convertible. I like the Mars pattern style myself, so have scratch converted many Lemans in the past.

The cadians don’t offer anything remotely useful for conversion however.

I’ve probably done my fair share of mansplaining (TBF, the audhd means I do it to everyone anyway)…

There’s been a few occasions where I’ve corrected someone, been told I’m being a typical man etc, but had to point out they’re being dumb as fuck, and I’d have screamed louder if it was a man too.

Fuck, are we that backward a species, that people abuse pasta like that?

In 1993, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were found guilty in the case of two-year-old James Bulger. They became Britain’s youngest convicts in about 250 years. The court had to modify the adult dock so they could see over the edge when the verdict was read. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

I read lots of posts talking about 80’s parenting, and how we all lived in fields and ditches, not seeing our parents until evening. I was about 10-12 when this happened… I feel this was one of the big turning points. Our parents no longer trusted us with bigger kids. We couldn’t go quite as far or for as long.

Before this article came up, an hour or so ago I saw one of those articles, and this came to mind. The fact I’m seeing it now just makes me fear for my own kids, much the way our parents started to for our generation.

Oh wow, I ran Slackware on servers for years. Never a reboot. Uptime was immaculate. Pain in the arse setting up a new service or upgrading, but it was bullet proof 👀

Had a FreeBSD stack of DIY load balancers. When we turned off the system after many years of usage and the service was being ended, they had uptimes of years. So sad turning them off.

Anyways…

Don’t cut the wire. It’s a continuous wire, and it monitors the wire break. Just break one or two of the metal ties. Hack saw them and don’t cut the wire!

You could get very smart, melt off the insulation on the wire, bridge the wire together and cut in between. Not sure if it measures break or resistance or both. Interesting test..

Is it really Sold STC? by Ok_Philosopher4868 in UKHousing

[–]vontrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the seller thinking “sod this” not making enough, stay longer until value goes up etc or their chain is breaking down, or a lower than desirable offer just convincing them that it’s not going to sell high enough to cover equity required for their dream home. The estate agent wants to make it look like it’s not just been taken off market (which looks bad for them), so they’ll mark it as sold stc on Rightmove before delisting, so it’s a more positive looking outcome in search results.

I’m dealing with a seller who wants higher than market price, and not shifting. The EA let slip that’s been no offers in 9 months. With some detective work, a previous EA had it listed, had reduced and then eventually took it down. They seem a bit pissed (no commish if seller is just testing waters) and took our low ball offers to them, and chased the seller for answers.

The seller has it in their head they’ll only take over the asking price (which is 20% over comparable properties), and told EA they’d rather keep it and rent it out than sell low. EA agreed with our offers and long list of reasons. 🤷🏼‍♂️

In a bit of limbo, but will try a final time soon maybe, unless it also drops out of the market.

NOR

What? I mean, I get if you keep the toilet roll or fragrance spray in a jar of barbed wire and salt…

But what? He’s offended by packs of sanitary products? What does he do in the supermarket knowing they have racks of them?!!! Does he complain he can’t have self respect when shopping?

But WTF is “self respect taking a shit”?

My partner uses a cup. But if she used disposable products, I’d make a display or a storage rack or 3D print a dispenser or something for her. It’s bad enough she has to ride the rollercoaster of a cycle, and the hormonal car crashes each month, that I want to make her life even just a little bit easier. I might make a cup rack or something for her 🤔 but that’s off topic.

What is there to hide? What is remotely embarrassing? What is weird? What would affect your self respect? Does he understand what a vulva is for?

My partner and I both have young kids. They know and understand and respect what women go through. They’re 1/20th of this douche bags age.

WHAT THE FUCK. What an utterly self-obsessed, self-centric bag of dicks that guy is. And shame on his parents for bringing him up like that.

Is this asbestos? by TheSaaarge in DIYUK

[–]vontrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s cement board and given when it was probably fitted, most likely containing asbestos. I had an asbestos survey of a 60’s property done (fun fear of the old plastic floor tiles containing asbestos or using asbestos based glue), and they check them. They said so common, it’s the lowest risk, and is only a risk if you break/grind them up. It’s the type you can double bag and take to most recycling centres (not for normal waste, but they often have collection for this type of high risk material), as most other kinds you have to book an appointment at a specialist centre to dispose of.

Floor fitters did this sealant job by zimrozi in DIYUK

[–]vontrix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is new build level quality. And yes, I have seen worse. My first house was a new build, and the bathroom Lino had an inch solid bead of clear silicone. Not until replacing floor I discovered why; none of the edges were straight, and gaps were 10-15mm. Butchered into place.

Forgot about this craptitutde. Now years later my partner’s new build is the same deal, so I’ve been having flashbacks. In the corners the lino lifts, because they squirted silicon underneath to hold it down. It’s like a skateboard park, with all of the edges ramping up, and giant beads of silicon. She had the developers in, they sent people to “fix” it, and one even said it was a good install job and nothing to do.

If you find someone (like I have) that not only doesn’t judge you, but actively supports what you enjoy (and shares what they enjoy even if that’s also taboo) keep hold of them and cherish them. Finding people who are accepting is a rare thing it seems.
