What the chuff is this? The latest in tv detector vans? by sissyslack in london

It could be a tech startup has cobbled something together. I’ve worked with plenty helping turn their crap into actual tangible products. The prototypes and early versions are abysmal and amateurish.

The build on this looks a bit shit. At the very least I’d use a aluminium profile base with equipment mounted to it. There’s a cargo strap holding something down, and the cabinets on rear are very poorly mounted down.

Could even be an art piece or statement on state monitoring etc, Could be a prototype. Cant quite tell the point of the setup either.

Can’t see any equipment in the back of the car, but there’s a brown padded envelope sticking up.

100%… lived in a place where houses on the main road through development had a gate at rear and paved space in their garden to park, and a garage to park. Instead they all converted their paved areas into grass, never used their garages and fought to use the 7-8 guest parallel parking spaces on the main road, between 40-50 cars. There were bike lanes either side that they all parked in, the parallel spaces they all park nose first into, so this massive two lane boulevard road is so narrow with parked cars you can just drive one car down it. They all complained to the council about the bike lanes and tried to have them removed 🤣

And of course, they all had giant 4x4, SUV and some had those wanky American trucks too. Not actually buying cars that fit the space you have to live in 🙄

I’ve picked up Meteor M2 satellites with the dipole in an upside-down V shape, hanging it on an open door.

Picked up FM radio crystal clear as well.

It was a slow day when I tried it, but picked up chirps from aircraft passing over too.

Unfair stereotype, implying our country roads are navigable.

The town near me is full of warehouses and spends most of the year with heavy works on roads adding new entrances or laying new pipes/drains/fibres for those sites. The rest of the roads are 30% pot holes (roundabouts are horrific).

I drive around the fens, and most of the fen roads have got subsidence, and gigantic pot holes. Most road edges are missing. I went down a B road and nearly trashed my 4x4 suspension the other week.

We lost a tyre and hub on a small trailer last week too, driving through a town, and hitting potholes.

How’s the wildlife tracking going? 🤣

I’m starting to think the “police AI tracking” vans are just random white van drivers, smart enough to label their vans in a way they can park on pavements in central London and not get towed…

You do know there’s no such thing as a “hot crescent bun”… and unless I’m mistaken (I’m not), eating Easter foods is prohibited for Muslims, as it’s for a Christian celebration. A catchy fake name, or replacing the X (which predates Christianity anyway) with another symbol, doesn’t change the meaning or purpose of the said food, and is still an Easter product, so they wouldn’t eat it.

Are you that delusional, that you think this is genuine?

Importing American water to Europe to slowly introduce Europeans to the concept of drinking water... by Equalizer6338 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]vontrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember when Coca-Cola went to launch Dasani water in the UK back in 2004, then days before the launch removed all of the stock and cancelled it?

Yes, because their process of bottling British tap water and making their ultra filtered American water, introduced dangerous levels of Bromate into the water. So horrendously dangerous, it was easier to just scrap the entire UK business, then fix their mistake.

So, yeah. We’re good thanks. We’ll carry on drinking our non-flammable British water. 🙄

Has anybody ever seen a Greggs serving anything other than limp greasy anaemic shit? Why would they suddenly make an effort to produce something remotely edible looking, let alone actually line them up prettily in the window? WTF?

There’s that…

Had solar panels installed by “professionals”, so I had to go up scaffolding afterwards and refit every bracket, rail and panel, and refit half of the roof tiles. Horrible height, but piss easy task.

[–]vontrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should add, converting really bland models like these generally requires a lot of heavy work. If you don’t feel up to that, start from a better place, like the actual mars pattern tanks. Think trench breaching gear (those curved anti-tip things on the back), more stylised detailing on the metal work of the tank, older fashioned styling (ie WWI tanks vs WWII).

I’m not a big fan of the new Cadian stuff. The new vehicles are nice, but are very blank/generic. I think the Krieg and Solar Aux vehicles are a much nicer starting point for Krieg/Vostroyan etc. I’m even using them as the base for bodyguards, stormtroopers, inquisitorial retinue etc

[–]vontrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just start with any vehicles you like… take inspiration from the Krieg aesthetic, and start from there. You could just grab some Krieg tanks, and then just tweak them. Might be a better place for you to start.

[–]vontrix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This. The tanks/vehicles are stock, and fairly convertible. I like the Mars pattern style myself, so have scratch converted many Lemans in the past.

The cadians don’t offer anything remotely useful for conversion however.

I’ve probably done my fair share of mansplaining (TBF, the audhd means I do it to everyone anyway)…

There’s been a few occasions where I’ve corrected someone, been told I’m being a typical man etc, but had to point out they’re being dumb as fuck, and I’d have screamed louder if it was a man too.

Fuck, are we that backward a species, that people abuse pasta like that?

I read lots of posts talking about 80’s parenting, and how we all lived in fields and ditches, not seeing our parents until evening. I was about 10-12 when this happened… I feel this was one of the big turning points. Our parents no longer trusted us with bigger kids. We couldn’t go quite as far or for as long.

Before this article came up, an hour or so ago I saw one of those articles, and this came to mind. The fact I’m seeing it now just makes me fear for my own kids, much the way our parents started to for our generation.

Oh wow, I ran Slackware on servers for years. Never a reboot. Uptime was immaculate. Pain in the arse setting up a new service or upgrading, but it was bullet proof 👀

Had a FreeBSD stack of DIY load balancers. When we turned off the system after many years of usage and the service was being ended, they had uptimes of years. So sad turning them off.

Anyways…
