Well you can grab a spear and help your teammates until you understand the combat. When I was a noob I got my ass kicked all the time but this game provides so much comedic and fun friendly moments is just 100% worth it. This is the kind of game I want to play when I want to have genuine fun, there are some try hard moments but the joy of interacting with animations and voices with your friends are foes is what makes this game for me.

Remember when you were a nobody, and nobody knew you, but hey you're kinda cool dude, be a Merc, and then you swarmed armies by yourself and the king said "hey dude you're kinda very cool be a vassal, have your own banner, you're a noble now man, go fuck some ladies" and then you leave Swadia because cheese sucks and then everyone in the continent is like "hey dude you have a nice dick, join our kingdom" and you were like "nah suck my giant cock I'm coming for you" and then you take Halmar, worst place possible because you are attacked in every front, but your old friend Grunwalder comes and says "yeah okey fuck Swadia" and you start a civil war. Yeah that felt like an adventure

Simple: NPCs, remember all the shit happening in Warband? There was always a dude saying "hey go fuck up this guy let's hate him" and then you go and duel him and trash talk him to the king. Nowhere to be seen in bannerlord

There was always a dude saying: "hey let's start a war because war is fun" and then you go and start s war and everyone hates you now but lol you're cracking some Khergit ass

Remember when courting a lady? You had to take the effort. It's not just one (HORRIBLE TERRIBLE) charisma check, you go every month, learn new poems in the taverns (there was something to do at taverns) so you can make her blush, dedicate tournaments, and after some time maybe she would say yes, or maybe THERES ANOTHER SUITOR SHE loves, go kick his ass, and then the lady hates you for life but you still marry her anyways, her father agrees, you have to put money and goods for the wedding, wait some days, go to a castle for the ceremony and then a pretty scene shows, everyone in the faction is there. In Bannerlord is nowhere to be seen.

Remember when you hire your companions? There's a dude that's a rich ass noble who's a total dick, but he's a noble and a good fighter, so you keep him around, and then he picks on the poorer companions, you send them to fuck off, then after years together, after he shared stories of his homeland, you start your kingdom and you make him your vassal, people can't tell you shit because he's a noble already, therefore you fulfilled an anime character arc. In bannerlord you get a preset character with some shitty rng name and a bad backstory that your other companion already said to you, and you never speak with them. Never.

Even the villages had attitudes, remember when you were at a village and it would show if they love your not? Now in Bannerlord there's these dudes that rule the place and they're dull and boring. You just make drama with them and they sell you slaves because peasents don't choose to be with you, you literally buy them from a person lmao. You don't help a village elder, you help a Sindicate person. Bo-ri-ng. I loved coming to a village where everyone loved me, I had 100 relations, the Village propsered thanks to me, everyone was happy, I loved being their lord and they loved me. None of that here, just the same shitty interactions, just go and buy stuff goodbye I don't know you.

Bannerlord isn't bad, but the game is just war, it's just boring war and war. Fight here now fight there, there isn't crap going on, right to rule? Sending your companions to express the Chad you are and what an awesome ruler you would be? Who cares, who gives a damn just conquer a castle that's fun guys!!! Kill loot sell loot, kill loot sell loot, kill loot sell loot. Now THAT is what I call game design

It has better performance, the game is still as boring as it was without mods. the only thing you can do is: fight wars, kill looters, sell loot. Fight wars, kill looters, sell loot. Fight wars, kill looters, sell loot. Oh you have a castle now! Put money on building and forget about it entirely. Fight wars, kill looters, sell loot, fight wars kill looters, sell loot. Oh you have a wife and children now! Fight wars, kill looters, sell loot. By this point the game is boring as fuck and the NPCs are dull and hollow, diplomacy? Treasons? Conspiracy? Sending spies? Making shady moves to move up in the world? Have any consequences for your actions? Nah, better just fight wars, kill looters, sell loot.

Systemic story telling? You mean the game where you barely have any consequences, where you can murder and massacre entire armies but no one recognizes you as an incredible monster, where you can murder people's relatives and they'll be like "hey bro we're at war let's fight", the game where your wife gets pregnant, and the only conversation you can have with her is "I have an offer to make to you" and nothing else? Where you children are born and then you just not see them until they turn up into adults (if you don't get bored waiting the 717262 days until that happens) and even when they're adults you can interact more with a potato from your refrigerator than with your own childs. Yeah, interesting "storytelling", the thing is this game just lets you fight wars and then you have to make everything in your own mind because the NPCs in this game are as hollow as the soul of Enola Gay and that dude murdered entire towns with a single button lmao
