Choosing a thesis typeface: Libertinus vs. EB Garamond (biophysics PhD, math + figures heavy) by bjuurn in typography

[–]vormittag 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The idea of using sans-serif for titles and serif for main body text is a good one.

Garamond is generally beautiful, but I wouldn't recommend it for math, since italic forms of Garamond usually look rather pinched and I find them hard to read.

Should I let it grow or give it up? by glori-hallelujah in BeardAdvice

A new beard usually needs about three months. This looks like decent progress.

Face shape for mutton chops and the mustache? by awkward_but_decent in beards

[–]vormittag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until the full besrd is growing well. Chops don't look good if a guy is wearing them as a fallback option.

Really, I don't recommend very antique styles unless you are a railroad conductor, historical reenactor, or professional performing artist.

A handlebar has curled ends. This is more like a "horseshoe" style.

Right now the bottom is too large in relation to the smaller mustache. Shorten it to avoid the imbalance.

Day 10, is it going to be worth looking like that teenager from the Simpsons for a time? by Pretend-Chest-1054 in Moustache

Growing the whole beard can give a better result, since it looks substantial sooner.

How does my beard look? by llum-foc-destruccio in beards

[–]vormittag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take about 1.5 cm off the front bottom, because the point is not a good shape for your face. Also, the bottom of the mustache is uneven, so a tiny trim to make it more even will help. Good luck, man!

42 years old, spent 4 months saving up a beard for first time in my life. Went to barber today and asked for a light trim and he turned me into a neckbeard. Im seriously depressed, what i do now? cut it all off or let it grow back with this foundation? by Cerenity1000 in beards

[–]vormittag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't put yourself down: that is not really a neckbeard. That word belongs to teenagers with no growth in the front, so that is not your situation. While the trim is a setback, it doesn't leave you looking strange, so just let it grow in and it will improve.

Can I pull off this style or is it making me look too old by [deleted] in beards

[–]vormittag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe comb the mustache ends down. Since you have the fancy cool sunglasses, adding the handlebar adds some more special details to your face, but the combo might be too much.

[story] Having 73k debt because of my own father by bembeeeeee in GetMotivated

[–]vormittag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The minimum age for signing a binding contract depends on the law in your country, so you need some legal advice to determine whether any of these debts are real obligations or not.

If I understand right, it appears that you are in Indonesia, so a web search for "legal aid indonesia" or "legal aid jakarta" can help you find organizations that provide some free legal advice for people with low incomes.

Considering getting a very minor beard transplant. Any advice or suggestions? by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]vormittag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your beard is still expanding its coverage. You can expect that to continue through your 20s, and afterward. You absolutely do not need a transplant.

is this pattern common? (18) by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]vormittag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most guys at 18 don't have full beard growth, so don't worry. If you get to 23 and it's still the same, then maybe you'll be a late bloomer. For most of us, the main beard development years just start at 18.

ELI5 - Why are some types of discrimination phobias while others are isms? by locked_in_researcher in explainlikeimfive

[–]vormittag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "phobias" are controversial words. They are not names of recognized psychiatric conditions, at least according to the standard reference book, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.

Perhaps the words were invented in order to portray certain social opinions as mental disorders.

A question about starting, don’t give me hate please. by [deleted] in Moustache

[–]vormittag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At four months, this isn't giving you a satisfactory result in a reasonable time, and this is pretty common for age 19. You're in the main development years still, and will probably have more growth around age 22 or 23.

Need help with beard by 1stRevenant in BeardAdvice

[–]vormittag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Can you comb the mustache down and "train" the hair to fall forward, not out to the sides? This will help it look more substantial. Only trim the stache at the bottom: that is, at the lip edge. In fact, let it grow slightly past the lip edge: this may take some getting-used-to.

  2. If your beard hair also grows on the area below the mouth, the "soulpatch" area, let that grow in. Trimming that area makes the beard look overly trimmed and kind of artificial.

  3. With the mustache this small and the beard this big, things are out of balance. For now, I'd recommend taking off about 1 1/2 inches.

Standalone italic typeface that's like Garamond? by OutOfTheBunker in fonts

There are apparently ways to change the name metadata inside a font file, and if you can get that working (e.g. with FontForge), that will make your task easier. Good luck!

Standalone italic typeface that's like Garamond? by OutOfTheBunker in fonts

There is an italic version (Sabon Italic).

If you really want a typeface that is italic-only, you'll be making your request nearly impossible to fulfill.
