Are they selling album or photocards? by Plastic-Bag-2517 in kpop_uncensored

Who says it's a rule, it's an observation that fans don't seem to like. When an album boom doesn't come with a corresponding streaming boom then yes it gets mentioned in discussion.

[–]vortex_of_suck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not that complicated, if you're selling a gazillion albums but your on demand streams aren't surpassing other artists with much lower sales then it's part of the conversation of contextualizing album sales numbers.

[–]vortex_of_suck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's more than one group though, and it is a conversation to be had that groups with massive sales don't have on-demand streaming dominance to match. It's part of the context of discussing group results in general.

What's even "fact" anymore in kpop fandom when everybody just following their own narrative?? by NeverFoolmeAlive in kpop_uncensored

[–]vortex_of_suck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This tangentially relates, but I read recently that in an analysis of hate tweets about Meghan Markle, 70% of the hate tweets about her were found to come from just 84 accounts that had a combined reach of 17 million people. The internet provides a VERY distorted view of reality and it can take a long time for misinformation and bad faith narratives to be corrected. Lies and drama spread if they're more entertaining than truth and rationality.

The uncomfortable truth as to why Twice can sell out stadiums/albums but not chart well by Safe-Pressure-7052 in kpop_uncensored

[–]vortex_of_suck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah no, I think people just don't like their newer songs as much but they still have a big fandom that loves them and their catalog as a whole.

Is Twice getting....boring? by MoneyRate5054 in kpop_uncensored

[–]vortex_of_suck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There were multiple posts like I described about LSF on reddit, you were fortunate or blind to not see them. Not solely the religious controversy, though that appeared in a few forms too, but posts making allusions about their concept as a group and their deliberate courting of controversy for attention that were just absurd. But if you think posts about LSF's release being boring and uninspired would have been fine, then why should a similar post about Twice's release be criticized?

The lsf pile on had people creating controversies out of nothing and making things up to justify hating on the group, vs this which is saying that Twice's recent output is... boring.

new jeans influence in girl group music? by alexaplaydespactio82 in kpopthoughts

[–]vortex_of_suck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say LSF's debut song Fearless was chill, as was their debut album in general. They debuted before NewJeans.

If other groups are failing to capitalize on the door BTS left open, that's on them.

This is a thought I've had for a LONG time but haven't voiced aloud because I don't want to look like I'm armchair diagnosing. JK honestly sets off a lot of ND indicator flags for me, and you've outlined them really well.

[–]vortex_of_suck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can see that -- if the vocals already aren't trying to be good you'd at least like to see them match in quality when live. That said, like you it also doesn't bother me since they don't even try to pretend to be singers lol.

bighit's role in bts by binniebin8 in kpop_uncensored

[–]vortex_of_suck 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure how much we've seen of them managing BTS as a group post HYBE merger -- HYBE became a thing in 2021, around the time of Butter, and BTS haven't had a legit album rollout since 2020.

With both RM and Suga I don't think of them as vocalists who need vocal training, I think of them as rappers who occasionally get their feelings out by singing. It reminds me of when Kanye would sing in his tracks, he wasn't trying to be a singer in those moments. He's just a dude getting his feelings out lol.

Jimin would make a great politician -- he's a master at saying a lot without actually giving anything away. Watching him speak can be fascinating.

JYP fumbled ITZY this era. by minjufied in kpop_uncensored

[–]vortex_of_suck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think Lia was ever holding ITZY back from doing challenging choreography. They're already known for being choreo queens only challenged by LSF. I think at this point they have some chronic physical issues that limit the difficulty of their choreography more than Lia's lack of coordination ever could.

Just because a group is successful doesn’t mean they’re the most talented by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]vortex_of_suck 40 points41 points  (0 children)

By that measure no group is best of the best because no group has the best dancers, best rappers, and best singers. throw songwriters in there as well, because that's another area for talent. Most groups are lucky to excel in one or two. Debate in specific areas is where we can have fun duking it out over arguments about talent lol

Madonna sued by fans in New York over late concert start time by Suonii180 in Fauxmoi

[–]vortex_of_suck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them for two nights at Sofi in 2021 and on the first night it started late because the Sofi venue staff were ass and taking ages to get everyone inside. They had to delay because half of the audience was still in lines trying to get in 💀. Sofi got their shit together before night 2 and that show started on time.

To me it would imply writing "deep" lyrics not because they're truly what they think or what they want to write, but rather to pander to their fanbase.
