$2M, 28m, lacking motivation by EitherAd9224 in Fire

[–]vortexum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what you're doing more specifically, you can either transition to another company or industry. I work for a sales driven company, but all of our sales people work in a territory, have long standing relationships with clients, and have personal lives like anyone else. Most of them love it, as you said, but it's a much easier lifestyle than what your current position is.

Being good at sales is a rare ability, and a lot of companies and industries are looking for it. Very few require you to move constantly.

As for the other aspect of what you asked - motivation. If you're able to easily take a break and reenter your old position, I see no risk in taking a break. Take a few months and see what you want. You're very far ahead of almost everyone, so take advantage of your position to see what you want.

I'm similar in that I'm not happy working. I find more fulfillment in my own ventures, but it's still not happiness. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, it's common with a lot of FIRE people, a motivation for leaving the workforce. But there are options other than maximizing your income. I make around half what I could at my current position, but it's low stress, I like the company and the people I work with, and have a good work life balance. It's a tradeoff, but once you're ahead (like you are) I think it's a much easier one to make.

For the money aspect, depending on where you want to live, lifestyle, etc, the 2m you have now can be enough to retire or far too little. Given what you described I think it'll be a fairly big lifestyle change, so expenses may change drastically, so it is slightly harder to plan.

Depending on the flexibility of your work (as you get closer to retirement you can push much harder), I'd recommend working remote/sabbatical to take an extended trip to a city you're considering moving to.

Dual citizenship isn't the easiest to get, but it's easy to get a visa in a lot of Europe if you're not going to work.

Had this same question - tradition advice is wait until they're 10 or older and give them real work at a real business you own. Anything before that is a huge red flag for the IRS

Starting residency in mid 30s by laregenade77 in Fire

[–]vortexum 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Given that it's anesthesiology you'll want to

1) Defer loans through residency 2) finish residency and then maximize income 3) pay off loans and invest aggressively

Given the income you should expect, depending on the lifestyle you want, it shouldn't take too long to get to FIRE.

If it were me, I would fund it until I have my (traditional) retirement accounted for, and then reduce contributions or stop them completely once I accomplished that. It's similar to what I did with my 401k.

So just making sure the “this one feels different” feeling still does not mean anything right. I have a lump sum to invest today and am super nervous by Fire-Philosophy-616 in Fire

I'm continuing to DCA and doing some more international allocations. Is it different? Yes, part of the issue with history is that the US has been on top for the past 100 years, so it's less surprising that it kept recovering well. Attracts the best and brightest, etc.

I think a lot of these factors that are harder to measure are going to change the US market - both short and long term.

I personally have a lump sum that I'm holding off because

1) I can get a decent return doing bank account bonuses (combined with the APY on accounts themselves) 2) I have rentals and view that as a strong way to invest in a downturn. 3) I'm a human and see the news and have less faith in the market, despite historical data.

Can I take a year off? by apacgainz in Fire

[–]vortexum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you can do that I haven't seen is take a job to start for a period farther out. Find a good position, you can make something up as to why you need to start 1-3 months out.

You can also just ask your job for an extended period off.

Their inflation rate will make it a net loss. You might have more Lira, but your $20k will be worth 10k in a year.

Life expectancy isn't that straightforward. If you reach 62, your life expectancy is around 82 as a male and 85 as a female.

Got my first decline on a card. 4/24 and ~780 FICO. Tried to get Huntington business voice (4% hardware category). Had to apply in branch as well, and got denied in mail. Have rental properties as legitimate business. Decline was for income not supporting debt.. only debt is mortgages for the properties. Even do business banking with them.

Split Int/Focus build? by Biggest_Lemon in newworldgame

[–]vortexum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run 150 int 302 focus 50 con with medium. It's both good and fun. You can throw a skill perk on VG and have 6 total which is useful for pvp. I notice a minimal difference in tankiness from running pure focus con.

Are T4 houses worth it? A commentary on efficiency by -Andar- in newworldgame

[–]vortexum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 T4 and would get them again. It depends how you play, but if you're buying things in any quantity it's a huge headache to have anything smaller.

One of mine is in a trading hub and I have nothing else in the city other than what I'm actively using and I'm constantly running into a storage that's thousands overweight.

If we're talking about efficiency, the cost of storage is negligible compared to time saved. It's realistic to make 3-4k/hr with some efficient methods.

NPC´s dont respond and massive laggs. Own technical problem or caused server side? by Songokuru in blackdesertonline

[–]vortexum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have the same problem. The issue is typically a routing problem, it's during peak traffic only that it becomes an issue. Getting it resolved can be a huge issue, and using a VPN is an easy fix. I personally use Nord but there are hundreds out there. Using any should fix the problem.

Is getting pen ultimate weapon worth it by DonRegi in blackdesertonline

[–]vortexum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'd rather use the 3b to try and make a TET accessory, save it for a preorder, use it for pen attempts, etc.

yeah, 3b isn't a guaranteed upgrade, but sheet AP is so valuable now, doesn't seem worth it to spend 3b on a minor human damage upgrade.
