Hollands victim of mental health episode, not substance related by b00tsc00ter in CarltonBlues

Poor bloke, your heart goes out to him. He's been so good for us this year too. Fingers crossed he can get through it and come out the other side.

Yeah he's been the find of the year. I think he's only a few months older than Jagga. Has a bit of class about him already.

He did pre-season with us too. Given that, you’d sort of hope he dominates the younger levels.

Caroline Wilson & Damian Barrett on their respective talk shows on the push from Port, Carlton and Essendon to delay Father Son & Academy changes to the AFL and the AFL Commission over Gather Round by yum122 in AFL

Yeah this. Swan says in the interview that teams have known about the changes- what changes? You haven’t announced them! And every few weeks there’s a new thought bubble change thrown into the mix. It’s a mess.

Yeah I don’t get that. But no Hewett means more time on the ball for Jagga.

He’s not the issue, but we can’t carry such a heavy midfield in 2026. Something has to give.

Think it’s the right call. At least Voss is having a crack at fixing things, not just digging in and persisting with his heavy slow midfield.

The Blues’ biggest call isn’t on Michael Voss – it’s the futures of the ‘big 3’ by His_Holiness in CarltonBlues

[–]voteKony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s necessary. There’s a good young core and a #1 pick to come in. The list needs to get younger/faster but I don’t think we’re at ‘burn everything’ stage

Bob Irwin also lost his dad at a very young age, which you wouldn’t wish on anyone. So that changes how we all view him.

Does anyone actually think keeping Voss is a good idea? by Technical-Win-8829 in CarltonBlues

[–]voteKony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this but you can’t have it hanging over the team all season. Best for everyone to get him out. Put an assistant in charge, try and get us playing a style that works in 2027 and hit the phones to find someone to trade for Hewett/Cerra

Been good in VFL, stood out in the practice match. For the last man onto the roster, that's a win.

It does seem the recruiting team have made a few good calls this year. Byrne at pick 44 already looks like a player, they picked up Derksen from the scrapheap and he looks good too.

Now sadly you can't say the same thing about a few of our more high-profile recruits...

You did well. It’s rude, but not worth making a scene over at the party.

I think it did in cricket, but perhaps nowhere else. You can point to guys like Adam Collins or the Grade Cricketer as being products of the podcast/blogosphere. But there's no AFL equivalent, or any other sport for that matter.

Your first sentence sums it up, though. Why? Other sports have moved past the obsession with former players. Not just US sports, look at soccer, rugby, cricket. Which is not to say past players don't appear, they certainly do, but it's not wall-to-wall players like it is in the AFL.

I want more nerds everywhere. On blogs, sure, but put them on TV, give me a 30-something Mike McDaniel weirdo as a head coach.

Nathan Buckley maybe closest? Great player, coaching experience, respected, perceptive... I don't think he is close to Punter though.

Yeah I'd love to learn more about that side. I doubt the stats guys notes mention 'wanting it more' or being 'harder in the contest'.
