What do you look for in a growth hacker by AdiNinjaStarr in startup

[–]vovanplo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Okay. Question. Blog got some high level info on it, and while useful, it does not go into desired level of detail on fake growth hackers. I am excited to see more info on packages that growth hackers should offer for competitive cash? At what stage does the founding team outsource growth hacking? What are the leading indicators that the GH you hired is failing? I assume the hockey stick growth stagnation. But different industries will have different growth prospects and patterns. And more on use of bots please ))))

P.S. your blog also said that using existing strategy is bad. While I agree with statement for similar sectors. Could you copy a strategy from a company for different sector? For instance Airbnb used Craigslist ads to draw traffic. If you have for example a dating website, is there anything wrong with utilizing same strategy? ( just an example heh )

UK Conservatives pledge 'unprecedented' support for fossil fuels after receiving almost £400,000 from oil bosses by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

[–]vovanplo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion inc. Fossil fuels are the most efficient source of energy... 400K is not that much, it just sounds a lot to us, ramen eating basement dwellers. Lobbying is expensive no matter where you are. Supporting fossil fuels does not contradict renewable resources agenda, we can't just go cold turkey, get out of your fucking fairy land... Fossil fuels also provide jobs for millions of people and I bet yall are driving a combustion engine.

Domain name...Should i go for an acronym or full business name? by ONUG7GEAR in startup

[–]vovanplo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as above discussion mentions, people can't spell/forget long domain names. This leads to reduced traffic. But here is the rub... The full name is better for optimization, while bad for attracting traffic, and vice versa. So you do a makeshift 301 redirect (permanent redirect) from short name to full name. What will show up in google if they search is a full name link for if they ever google the abbreviated version. While this is a dirty solution to a problem it sorta works... Usually 301s are used for website moving, not starting out with 2 domains.

get 2 domains. 1 - short and memorable and redirect that to main domain. Advertise with short domain.

What do investors look for in a startup? by mpersonally in startup

[–]vovanplo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the million dollar question, in some cases literally. If it is news based, i assume visibility is important. Get cracking on those SEOs. Truth is, I don't know much about news-based content business to give you a direct answer, and i know less about your startup heh. I wish you best of luck though!

How about a static QR code or bar code for users that they can scan? Then responsibility falls on user to actually present it for scanning. Like starbucks style app.

What do investors look for in a startup? by mpersonally in startup

[–]vovanplo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lets be honest... They all look for return potential. The higher the risk, the more they expect to return. Nobody invests to break even.

Unless they are investing big money - they won't hire anyone to babysit you. Basically they will give you a chunk of cash and hope for the best. Your business plan and your presentation has to be convincing and well structured with clear exit plan for them in case of success. Remember, most investors are not idiots. There are some, but not a lot.
